Vuosi on vaihtunut ajat sitten ja olen pitänyt hiukan lomaa blogista ja yrittänyt orientoitua uusiin kuvioihin ja saada loman jälkeen taas kiinni vanhoista. Pahoittelut etten ilmoitellut tauosta etukäteen ja että se venyi vähän pidemmäksi kuin oli alunperin tarkoitus. Parin viikon mittainen joulutauko töistä teki hyvää. Olen aloitellut uusia projekteja, mutta myös laiskotellut, joka sekin on tärkeää välillä kun meno alkaa muistuttaa karusellia. Vanha talo teettää näitä normaaleja kommervenkkejään, suihkun viemäri meni nimittäin jälleen jäähän, kuten viime vuonnakin. Tällä kertaa saimme kuitenkin sen itse auki sulanapitokaapelin ja viemärinavaajan avulla. Kunnes se jäätyi uudelleen. Sitten hajosi vesivaraajan varoventtiili. Viemärin jäätynyt kohta on sulanapitokaapelin ulottumattomissa, eli jossakin 6 metrin päässä, mutta ihmeellisesti kuitenkin vessan molemmat viemärit toimivat. Vesivaraajan korjaaja totesi että talo on melko jyrkässä mäessä, ehkä viemäriputkeen on pitänyt laittaa enemmän pituutta jotta kaato ei ole liian jyrkkä. Sekään ei kuulemma ole hyvä, sen paremmin kuin liian loivakaan. Tiedä häntä, mutta tulevana kesänä on ilmeisesti kerättävä rohkeutta ja kömmittävä talon alle tutkimaan mitä rossipohja on syönyt ja miksi viemäri pääsee jäätymään. Kumpikaan meistä ei odota sitä hommaa kovin innolla.

Tänä vuonna muut hommat jatkuu melko lailla entisellään. Jatkan opiskeluja kansallispuku-alalla ja talon remontti edistynee omalla painollaan pala kerrallaan. Mitä nyt nuo putkihommat voivat tehdä muihin suunnitelmiin pienen viivästyksen. Jos lattioita joudutaan avaamaan niin pikkuisen tekisi mieli vetää samalla koko vessa uusiksi ja asentaa sinne lattialämmitys. Syistä voi lukea lisää täältä. Kädet kuitenkin syyhyävät päästä taas tapettihommiin, mutta vielä pitää ihan vähän jaksaa odottaa sitäkin hommaa. Blogi jatkuu entisellään, toivon että edes muutama lukija jaksaa täällä edelleen piipahtaa silloin tällöin. Postaustahti säilynee suunnilleen samana, noin kerta viikkoon, tai joskus joka toinen viikko.

Uusista asioista mainittakoon nyt että hyppäsin kansallispuku-asioissa heti syvään päätyyn ja kuukausi sitten alkoikin ensimmäinen oma kansallispuku-kurssini Sastamalan opistossa. Pitäkää peukkuja! Kurssi on täynnä, joten on toiveita että saamme myös ensi syksylle kansallispuku-kurssin opistoon. Pidin kuukausi sitten aiheesta myöskin luennon. Olen myös lupautunut mukaan pariin muuhun kansallispuku-projektiin. Lisäksi haaveilen tekeväni harrastuspohjalta myös muita kansanpuku-tyyppisiä asioita tänä vuonna. Aika näyttää mitä kaikkea tästä poikiikaan.

Alkuvuodesta on ehditty jo myös surra, sillä mummukisu, Yön kuningatar Nyx Amanda on sairastellut kovin. Populaatiokissana Nyxin tarkka ikä ei ole tiedossa, mutta nivelvaivat viittaisivat siihen että ikä alkaa jo painaa. Arvioiden mukaan Nyx olisi 7-8-vuotias, mutta saattaa olla vanhempikin. Nivelet alkavat nivelrikon vuoksi olla nyt siinä kunnossa että yhteinen aikamme on tulossa päätökseen. Huomenna joudun soittelemaan eläinlääkärille ikävissä asioissa. Raskas viikko on siis luvassa. Näyttää siis sille että tästä vuodesta on tulossa melkoista vuoristorataa ja päästään kokemaan koko tunteiden kirjo. Toivotaan kuitenkin että loppusaldo pysyisi plussan puolella siinä vaiheessa kun ollaan taas vuoden viimeisessä päivässä.

The year has changed a while ago, and I have taken a little break from blogging and tried to orient myself to new patterns and get back to the old ones after the holidays. Apologies for not announcing the blog break and also that it extended a bit longer than originally intended. The two-week Christmas break from work did me good. I’ve started some new projects, but I’ve also been lazy, which is important sometimes when life starts to feel like a merry-go-round. The old house is acting up as usual; the shower drain froze again, just like last year. This time, however, we were able to unfreeze it ourselves with a heating cable and a drain opener. Until it froze again. Then the safety valve on the water heater broke. The frozen section of the drain is out of reach of the heating cable, about 6 meters away, but miraculously, both drains in the restroom are working. The plumber said that the house is on a fairly steep hill, so perhaps the drain pipe needed to be longer to prevent the slope from being too steep. Apparently, that’s not good either, any more than a slope that’s too gentle. I don’t know about that, but this summer we will apparently have to pluck up our courage and crawl under the house to investigate what is going on at the crawl space and why the drain freezes. Neither of us is looking forward to that task very much.

This year, other tasks will continue pretty much as before. I will continue my studies in the field of national costumes, and the renovation of the house will progress at its own pace, piece by piece. The plumbing work may cause a slight delay to other plans though. If the floors have to be opened up, I’d like to renovate the entire restroom and install underfloor heating. You can read more about the reasons in this post. My hands are itching to get back to wallpapering, but I’ll have to wait a little longer for that. The blog will continue as usual, and I hope that at least a few readers will continue to drop by from time to time. The posting frequency will remain roughly the same, about once a week, or sometimes every other week.

One of the new things to mention is that I jumped right into the deep end of national costume matters, and a month ago I started my first national costume course at the Sastamala Adult College. Keep your fingers crossed! The course is full, so I hope we can have another national costume course next Autumn. I also gave a lecture on the subject a about a month ago. I have also agreed to participate in couple other national costume project. In addition, I dream of doing other folk costume-related things as a hobby this year. Time will tell what will come of all this.

The beginning of the year has also been a sad one, as Nyx Amanda, the Queen of the Night, has been very ill. As a feral cat, Nyx’s exact age is unknown, but her joint problems suggest that she is getting on in years. According to estimates, Nyx is 7-8 years old, but she may be even older. Due to osteoarthritis, her joints are now in such a condition that our time together is coming to an end. Tomorrow I will have to call the vet about unpleasant matter. So, it’s going to be a rough week. It looks like this year is going to be quite a roller coaster ride, with a whole range of emotions to experience. Let’s hope that the final balance will still be on the positive side when we reach the last day of the year.
