Sitä mukaa kun talon remontti etenee, tulee myös tarvetta uusille huonekaluille. Fakta nimittäin on että pienen kaksion tai edes kolmion huonekaluilla ei sisusteta seitsemän huoneen taloa. Niinpä ostin meille tällä viikolla kolmannen sohvan. Se tuntuu näin ääneen sanottuna hassulta. Siis että meillä on kolme sohvaa. Se kuulostaa ihan hirveän suurelta määrältä isoja huonekaluja kun on aiemmin asunut asunnoissa joissa on ollut hädin tuskin tilaa yhdelle sohvalle. Totuus on että meidän sali, jota olohuoneeksikin kutsutaan, on isompi kuin entisen kotimme olohuone ja avokeittiö yhteensä. Sinne mahtuu siis kirjahyllyjen ja työpöytien lisäksi melko vaivatta kaksi sohvaa, kolme ja puoli sohvapöytää, peilipiironki, pari nojatuolia ja joukko muita tuoleja.

Tämä kolmas sohva on yläkerran tulevaa toimisto-työhuonetta varten. Siivosin sinne sen verran tilaa että saimme mahdutettua sohvan sisään huoneeseen, mutta vielä on tehtävä paljon siivousta ja järjestelyä että pääsen tapetoimaan huonetta. Olenko jo esitellyt huoneen tulevan tapetin? En ole ihan varma vilahtiko se blogissa jo, mutta uuteen sohvaan se mätsää aivan täydellisesti. Vinkkivitosena muille huonekaluhamstereille, että havaitsimme erinomaiseksi kantoavuksi tuollaiset pienet silmukkanostovyöt, joissa on molemmissa päissä tukeva lenkki. Sellaiset kun sujauttaa sohvan molempiin päihin jalkojen alle ja itse pujauttaa nostovyön hartioiden ympäri niin painavan, hankalan mallisenkin sohvan kanto onnistuu huomattavasti helpommin. Nostovöistä en nyt tullut ottaneeksi kuvaa, mutta puhun siis lyhyistä 2m mittaisista joita saa esim täältä. Isäntä hankki ne hiljattain erästä toista nostohommaa varten, mutta toimivat erinomaisesti myös tässä sohvahommassa. Itselläni ei ole käsissä kovasti puristusvoimaa, mutta core on kunnossa, joten kun sain suurimman osan painosta hartioille, ei tuottanut mitään ongelmaa kantaa painavaa sohvaa toiseen kerrokseen.

Makuuhuoneen remontti on vielä viimeistelyä vaille (pienen vaatekomeron ovi ja karmit) joten kuistilla neljättä vuotta majaileva vaatekaappikin odottaa vielä lopullista paikkaansa, sekä ilmaiseksi saatu Askon kirjakaappi odottaa pääsyä yläkerran työhuoneeseen sohvan kaveriksi. Tämä on sitä niinkutsuttua dominoefektiä. Eli pitää tehdä ensin asiat A ja B jotta voi tehdä asian C. Mutta askel kerrallaan, hiljaa hyvä tulee. Salaa vähän haaveilin että tänä kesänä saisin purettua ruokailuhuoneen lastulevykomeron. Se kunnon ruokakomero nimittäin vähän kuumottelee jo.

As the renovation of the house progresses, we’re also finding ourselves in need of new furniture. The fact is, you can’t furnish a seven-room house with furniture meant for a small one-bedroom or even a two-bedroom apartment. So this week, I bought us a third sofa. It feels a bit silly saying it out loud. I mean, now we have three sofas. It sounds like an awful lot of large furniture when we’ve previously lived in apartments where there was barely enough room for a one sofa. The truth is that our hall, also known as the living room, is larger than the living room and open kitchen of our former home combined. So, in addition to bookshelves and desks, it easily fits two sofas, three and a half coffee tables, a mirrored console table, a couple of armchairs, and a bunch of other chairs.

This third sofa is for the future study upstairs. I cleared enough space in there so we could fit the sofa into the room, but there’s still a lot of cleaning and organizing to do before I can start wallpapering the room. Have I already shown you the wallpaper for the room? I’m not quite sure if it’s popped up on the blog yet, but it matches the new sofa perfectly. Here’s a tip for other furniture hoarders: we found those little lifting straps with sturdy loops at both ends to be excellent for carrying. You just slip them under the legs at both ends of the sofa and the lifting strap over your shoulders, and even a heavy, awkwardly shaped sofa is much easier to carry. I didn’t get a picture of the lifting straps, but I’m talking about the short 2-meter ones you can get, for example, here. Hubby recently bought them for another lifting job, but they worked perfectly for this sofa move as well. I don’t have much grip strength in my hands, but my core is in good shape, so once I got most of the weight onto my shoulders, it was no problem at all to carry the heavy sofa up to the second floor.

The bedroom renovation is almost finished (just the door and frames for the small closet left to do), so the wardrobe that’s been sitting in the lobby for four years is still waiting for it’s final spot, and the Asko bookcase I got for free is waiting to be moved into the study to sit next to the sofa. This is what’s known as the domino effect. In other words, you have to do things A and B first so you can do thing C. But one step at a time—slow and steady as they say. I’ve been secretly hoping that this summer I’ll be able to tear down the chipboard closet in the dining room. Proper pantry is starting to seem like our most coveted thing.
