Crochet or not to crochet?

Jokunen kuukausi sitten osallistuin Sew Cinematic-haasteeseen joka päättyi toukokuun lopussa. No, tehän tiedätte miten siinä lopulta kävi. Valitsin ommeltavaksi Midnight in Paris-leffan sifonkisen 20-luvun mekon punaisin helmikirjailuin. No arvatkaa osasinko päättää!?

IN ENGLISH
Couple months ago I joined in Sew Cinematic challenge, which was finished at the end of May. You might guess what happened. My cinematic dress to be was chosen from the Midnight in Paris-movie, 20’s style chiffon dress with red beading. I was pondering quite long what to do with the beading, because it whould have been rather timeconsuming and hard work. Dress is now finished, except the beading because I still can’t decide. Options to replace the beading was lace trimming, other decorative trimming or combination of lace and beads.

By pure accident I was digging into my yarn baskets at work the other week, looking for suitable yarn for my snood. I happened to find one old unfinished crochet project. It has been started so long ago I can’t even remember what I was making of it, perhaps a scarf of some sort. What ever that was supposed to be, the colours were rather appealing to me and they go rather nicely with my aqua coloured chiffon dress. So I made a little test. I pinned the crochet ribbon to the dress and made a test photoshoot so see how it works. Actually it doesn’t look to bad to me. What say you, use it or loose it?

Etuosan lisäksi nauha kiertäisi vyön, hihansuut ja kauluksen, kuten
helmikirjailu alkuperäisessä puvussa. /
In addition to the front, ribbon would also go around the belt,
sleeve edges and collar, just like the beading in original dress.

Ooh, I think that could be really lovely! I like the idea of it along the edge of the sleeves and collar too. The colors do go nicely, and what an original addition to add that bit of crochet. I think it would really pop.

    Ei ollenkaan hullumpi vaihtoehto.

Tasha – This project has been very difficult for me. When I am copying something I like to make it exact, however the pattern gave hard times and I’m not completely satisfied with the front. Also I would have wanted to use the beading but it is so timeconsuming compared to other methods… so I think I will go with the crochet :D atleast it is the first lace I actually like and the colours are nice.

I love the trim you’ve made – and at first, just looking at photos, I felt that the placement felt somewhat ‘retro’. Then in reading your post that it was intended to be a 1920’s-inspired dress… I think you’re spot-on! Did you end up going with this trim?

    1. Rhia says:

Dawn – LOL, actually I still haven’t finished this dress :D But I think I’m going for the crochet trim anyway. And perhaps add just some sparkly beads here and there, just for the effect. I sort of lost the interest because I couldn’t decide on it. But summer is almost here, so perhaps I’m able to finish it for this summer.
