Nykyisin tuntuu siltä, että kaikissa projekteissani kestää ihan järjettömän kauan. Niinkuin nyt tämäkin mekko. En edes ihan tarkkaan muista koska aloin ommella sitä. Se oli joskus syksyllä tahi talvella. Sitten se jäi keskeneräisten kasaan odottamaan että jaksan kaavoittaa siihen hihat ja viimeistellä pääntien. Nyt alkoi kaapista vaatteet loppumaan kun en ole ehtinyt pestä pyykkiä, joten aattelin että no ei kai siinä kauaa mene kun kietasen ne hihat kasaan. Meni yksi ilta. Piirsin hihat suoraan kankaalle ilman kaavaa, leikkasin ne ja kapeat kaitaleet rannekkeiksi, sekä vinokaitaletta pääntien huolitteluun. Tadah! Yli puolen vuoden projekti on saatu päätökseen.
Ensimmäisellä käyttökerralla tuntui kuin olisin ollut pukeutunut yöpaitaan, mutta totuin uuteen ilmeeseen melko pian. Mekko sai vaikutteita 1800-1900-lukujen taitteen reformityylistä ja kotimekoista eikä siinä ole vyötäröllä muotolaskoksia tai vyötärönauhaa. Väljyys kootaan vyöllä. Tällä hetkellä minulla on kaksi varteenotettavaa vyö-vaihtoehtoa, molemmat nahkakurssilla itse tekemäni historialliseen tyyliin sopivat. Pitkä kapea keskiaikatyylinen vyö on suosikkini koska sitä voi helposti säätää lennosta. Uusin tulokas on vihreä muotoiltu 1900-luvun alun tyylinen vyö. Parin päivän käytön jälkeen olen kuitenkin todennut että mekossa on vyötäröllä niin paljon väljyyttä, että jonkinlainen huomaamaton kiristysnauha vyötärön sisäpuolella voisi olla paikallaan. Kujan sisään pujotettavalla kiristysnauhalla väljyyden saisi koottua vyötärölle tasaisemmin, eikä sitä tarvitsisi päivän aikana jatkuvasti säätää. Todennäköisesti lisään sellaisen jossain vaiheessa. Säädettävä vyötärö, olisi myös luultavasti monikäyttöisempi, jos haluan joskus käyttää mekkoa ilman vyötä.
Tämä on ensimmäinen valmiiksi tekemäni uusi vaate sen jälkeen kun aloitin Vintage-kapselivaatekaapin kokoamisen. Tähän mennessä olen käynyt läpi lähinnä lipaston, jossa säilytän alusvaatteita ja muita pienempiä vaatekappaleita. Projekti etenee pikkuhiljaa.
Nowadays, it seems that all my projects take an absurdly long time. Like this dress. I can’t even remember exactly when I started sewing it. It was sometime in the Autumn or Winter. Then it just sat in a pile of unfinished pieces, waiting for me to draft the sleeve pattern and finish the neckline. Now I was running out of clothes in the closet since I haven’t had time to do laundry, so I figured it wouldn’t take long to wrap up the sleeves. It took me one evening. I drew the sleeves directly on the fabric without a pattern, cut them and the narrow strip of fabric for cuffs, and a bias tape for the neckline. Tadah! Project for more than six months long is now completed.
The first time I used it, I felt like wearing a nightgown, but I got used to the new look pretty quickly. The dress was inspired by turn of 1800-1900’s reform-style and house dresses and has no darts or waistband at the waist. The loose fit is gathered with a belt. At the moment I have two belt options, both in the historical style, which I made myself in a leather crafting class. The long narrow medieval-style belt is my favourite because it can be easily adjusted on the fly. The latest arrival is a green shaped early 1900’s style belt. However, after a few days of wearing the dress, I’ve realised that there is so much extra fabric at the waist that some kind of discreet drawstring on the inside of the waist could be in order. With a drawstring inside, the looseness would be more evenly distributed around the waist, rather than having to constantly adjust it during the day. I will probably add drawstring later on. Adjustable waist would probably be more practical, in case I want to use the dress without a belt at some point,
This is the first new piece of clothing I have finished since I started the vintage capsule wardrobe project. So far I have just gone through drawer where I keep my underwear and other smaller pieces of clothing. Project will proceed bit by bit.
I use this longer than long belt a lot. It’s comfortable to wear and easy to adjust seamlessly, because it doesn’t have holes. Adjustment is done with a knot.
Apologies for blurry photos again. It was closer to midnight when I was able to take the photos. And my phone’s camera still doesn’t handle the dusk very well. Buttons are mother-of-pearl.
Dress is really wide, doesn’t feel tight even after hefty lunch.
I made this green belt on the leather crafting workshop in the spring. It is made of vegetable tanned leather, which you can stain what ever colour you like. I mixed little bit of black with bright green, to get the tone close to my green edwardian shoes. Close enough.
Belt is attached at the back with ribbon, because I didn’t want to add any bulky buckles and ribbon is adjustable. Option for adjustments is important for someone like me who has stomach problems.

Ihanan näköinen mekko (arvostan armollista väljyyttä vyötäröllä)! Vaikuttaa monikäyttöiseltä mallilta, joka kangasta, kuosia ja asusteita vaihtamalla muuntautuu arjesta juhlaan. :)
Hehkuvainen – Kiitos. Armeliasta ja säädettävää vyötäröä arvostaa kyllä vuosi vuodelta enemmän. Nuorempana pienesti epämukavatkin vaatteet päällä pystyi olemaan koko päivän, mutta ei enää kovin pitkään ja kuristava vyötärö on kaikkein pahin. Totta! Juhlavammasta kankaasta tehtynä tästä saa aivan salonkikelpousen juhlamekon. Itse olen nyt pitänyt tätä töissä muutaman päivän. Nurjalta flanellipintainen puuvillakangas on ollut sateisina, viileinä päivinä mukavan lämmin.
