Alle kahden viikon päästä pitäisi esitellä valmis juhlapuku Kangaskapinan kilpailuun. Vaikka kankaat saapuivat jo viimeviikolla, en Vapriikki-kiireiden vuoksi päässyt aloittamaan puvun työstämistä heti. Kankaita valitessa jouduin muuttamaan alunperin suunnittelemaani mallia koska kankaiden värit olivat nettikaupan kuvissa hieman vääristyneet. Olin suunnitellut pukuun alunperin yksityiskohtia duchess-satiinista, mutta sen todellinen väri ei sopinutkaan yhteen sifongin kanssa. Lopullinen malli on siis vielä hieman hakusessa. Vuori on kuitenkin jo leikattu ja ommeltu kasaan.
Seuraava vaihe on sifongin drapeeraaminen vuorin päälle. Ongelmallista tästä tekee se että en omista sovitusnukkea (työväline jonka hankkimista olen suunnitellut pitkään). Oudonmuotoisen näyteikkunanuken päälle drapeeraaminen ei vain oikein toimi. Sovittelin sifonkia itseni päälle peilin edessä. En ole aivan varma että mitä tästä on tulossa. Kreikkalainen jumalatar? 20-luvun flapper? Moderni cocktailpuku? Toivottavasti joku valmis puku kuitenkin ensiviikkoon mennessä. Puvut esitellään blogeissa 8.2 ja sen jälkeen yleisö saa äänestää niistä voittajan. Muut kilpailijat löydät Kangaskapinan FB-sivulta.
In less than two weeks I should be representing finished frock for Kangaskapina competition. Even though the fabrics came already last week, I didn’t have time to start making it, due to preparing for Vapriikki event. When I was choosing the fabrics I had to change my original plans because the colours were a bit distorted in the online shop photos. I designed details from duchess satin, but the true colour didn’t match with chiffon after all. So I’m a bit undecided on the final design still. However the lining has already been cut and put together.
Next phase is to drape the chiffon ontop the lining. It will be problematic because I don’t own fitting form (work tool which I have been planning to get for long time). Oddly shaped display form is not suitable for draping. I was testdraping chiffon on myself in front of the mirror. I’m not sure what this will become. Greek goddess? 20’s flapper? Modern cocktail dress? Hopefully a finished dress by the end of next week. Finished frocks are displayed in blogs 8.2 and after that audience can vote the winner. Odotan mielenkiinnolla valmiin puvun näkemistä. Siitä tulee varmasti kaunis, päädyt sitten mihin vaihtoehtoon tahansa.
Metsäntyttö – Hehe, kova luotto tuntuu olevan :D Saas nyt nähdä sitten miten käy. Ammattilainenkin voi joskus mennä vikaan, eikä hyväkään visio aina käänny kunnolla vaatteeksi. Mutta pianhan se nähdään miten ämmän käy!
You could easily make a fitting form in 2 hours if you have all materials you need and your hubby or a friend helps you. You need an old T-shirt, duct-tape – a good one, thick, about 2-3 big rolls, one broom stick and one Christmas tree stand.
Put the T-shirt on. Ask hubby or your friend to roll you with duct-tape over the T-shirt in a sufficient thick layer from shoulder to hips. When done, ask your help to cut the layers on your back, on the middle, so you can come out. Fill the form with: crushed plastic bottles, paper, fabric scrap, foam (used for construction), plaster, or combinations of them. You need to be a little heavy for stability. Poke the broom stick in the form (see if you have to do this before finishing the filling). Fix the stick in the Christmas tree stand.
Done! It is really not complicated and it doesn’t have to be perfect. And you’ll have a double of you.
Don’t fit the duct-tape too tight.
I have one of these. Search Internet and you’ll find a lot of guidance. It is REALY A MUST! if you need to drape. It is impossible to do this without form.
I used my form to drape the prom dress for my daughter, and she is less then half my size. I couldn’t do this without my form.

Cristina – I know it’s easy to make one, however I am a bit picky. I know what kind of quality I want and homemade just would not come up to my standards. I also don’t have too much room for several different forms so I would prefer getting one adjustable one which works both my own measurements and for customerwork too. However they are quite expensive, that’s why I don’t have one yet. I do have display form, but that doesn’t match anyones measurements even close. But thank you for your helpfull instructions. I think some of my readers might find that usefull.
Oi, se on niin kauniin värinen! Jumalatar on aina hyvä valinta, oli asia mikä hyvänsä :D. (Always be yourself unless you can be a unicorn. Then always be a unicorn. Or goddess, if that suits you better.)
Hehkuvainen – :D Kyllä näin on. Pukuoperaatio on nyt mietintätauolla. Ensiviikolla jatkuu. Sitten varmaan selvinnee lopullinen mallikin. Väri on tuollainen jadenvihreä, vuori vaaleansininen. Väristä on todella vaikea saada kunnollista kuvaa. Mutta ehkä sitten valmiista puvusta pääsen ottamaan kuvan vähän paremmissa valaistusolosuhteissa.
Upean värinen kangas. En malta odottaa kilpailun satoa.
