Taisimme saada intiaanikesän tähän syyskuulle. Oikein mukavaa on se, vaikka tänään onkin hieman liian lämmin keli syksyisemmälle hameelle. Kauppareisulla ainakin tuli vähän lämmin. Iltaisin kuitenkin alkaa olla sen verran vilpoista että parvekkeen ovi pitää jo sulkea. Ja siitäkös kissamme ei tykkää sitten yhtään. Parveke on Takun lempi paikka ja jos ovi on kiinni niin kissin-itkua väännetään oven takana kunnes joku älyää sen avata.
Aurinkoinen syksy on jostain syystä inspiroinut belle epoque-ajan pukeutumiseen. Etenkin kun löysin tämän vedenvärisen puseron joka sopii tyyliin kuin maajussi pellolle. Kirppikseltä löytynyt pusero on täysin moderni House Doctorin jostakin vanhasta mallistosta. Minulle ennestään aivan outo merkki. Kuviin lainasin isännän 20-luvun aurinkolaseja.
Lopuksi haluan jakaa kanssanne vielä tämän vanhan mutta erittäin helpon (mulle kelpaavat vain helpot ruokaohjeet) ohjeen jonka hyvä ystäväni muistutti mieliini. Mitenkähän monelle hölskytyskurkut ovat tuttua lapsuusajan syömistä? Kun oikein muistia kaivelee niin luulen että meilläkin taidettiin näitä tehdä sadonkorjuuaikaan.
HÖLSKYTYSKURKUT
3-4 avomaan kurkkua
1-3 rkl väkiviinaetikkaa
sokeria ja suolaa
hienonnettua tilliä
Kuori kurkut ja viipaloi ne. Laita kurkkuviipaleet ja muut aineet pieneen kulhoon ja peitä tiiviisti riittävän suurella lautasella tai muulla kannella (kannellinen lasitölkki käy myös). Hölskyttele/ravistele kurkkuja jonkin aikaa jotta ne maustuvat. Kaada neste pois ja tarjoile pian valmistamisen jälkeen. Etikan määrää säätämällä saat joko miedompia tai väkevämpiä kurkkuja.

I think we just got Indian Summer for the September. That is very lovely, even though today seems to be a bit too warm for my Autumn skirt. Atleast I got rather flustered on the way to the grocers and back. In the evening it gets a bit more chilly. So chilly we have to close the balcony and that upsets our kitty. Balcony is Taku’s favourite place and if the door is closed she cries next to the door as long as someone bothers to open it.
Sunny Autumn has, for some reason, inspired me for belle epoque style outfits. Especially when I found this smoky aqua coloured blouse, which fits the style perfectly. It was found from flea market but it’s a modern House Doctor blouse. I wasn’t familiar with that brand before. I borrowed my hubbys 20’s sunglasses for these photos.
Finally I want to share with you this old but very easy recipe ( I only do easy recipe’s) of which my good friend reminded me about. Were these part of your childhood meals? Atleast here in Finland they used to be part of the Harvest season meals. I believe they were also served at my home when I was a kid.
SHAKE CUCUMBERS
3-4 cucumbers (cucumis sativus, if you use the long smooth cucumbers, one is enough)
1-3 table spoons of white vinegar
sugar and salt
chopped dill
Peel and slice cucumbers. Put them in small bowl with other ingredients, cover the bowl with a plate or other lid that seals the bowl nicely (you can also use glass jar with lid). Shake them a while, until cucumbers are marinaded all over. Poor the liquid off and serve soon after preparing. By adjusting the amount of vinegar you can get milder or stronger cucumbers.
Hölskykurkkuja, nam! Meillä ei niitä syöty silloin kun olin lapsi, olen tutustunut tähän herkkuun vasta aikuisena. Oli minulta taas unohtunut että näitä voisi olla kiva rouskutella, pitänee tekaista itsellekin kun avomaankurkkuja nyt on.

Hehkuvainen – Minä söin hölskytyskurkut uunimakkaran, keitettyjen perunoiden ja ruisleivän kanssa. Ihan kuin lapsenakin :D Hyvältä maistuivat, tosin laitoin ehkä vähän turhan paljon etikkaa. Ensi kerralla vähän vähemmän.
thorne garnet – Thanks! Sometimes I like to show the backside aswell, especially if the details on the garment are nice. Unfortunately the front doesn’t show that well on the photo, the part that looks like ruffles in the middle of the bodice is actually little balls made of fabric and soft filling, like fabric-covered ball-shaped buttons.
Desiree – Looks like the Autumn is going to be gentle for us this year. Sunny warm days seem to continue forever and ever. That kind of thing is rather rare. I do love all the little details in clothing, that’s why I love vintage. It’s hard to find decorative detailing in modern clothes because it’s difficult to do those cheap and with machinery. Thankfully some gems can be found every now and then :D
