Lupailin tuossa aiemmin tehdä postauksen tyllihameesta. Rockabellalla on hyvä ohje tyllihameeseen, jolla saa muhkeaakin muhkeammat fiftarihelmat. Tyllihameita voi olla toisenlaisiakin. Hieman hillitympiä jotka ovat enemmän omaan makuuni.

Earlier I promised to make a post about tulle petticoat. Rockabella has a good instructions (unfortunately only in finnish!) for making fifties-style big petticoat. But there can be different kind of tulle petticoats. Little bit smaller and more moderate, my kind of style.
1. You need about 4 meters of tulle (colour of your choise), approx 50-60 cm of lining fabric or thin cotton, 8 m of satin or cotton bias cut ribbon and rubberband enough to go around your waist.
2. Sew together lining materials short edges (if fabric is straight from fabric roll edges don’t even need overlock/serger seam). Then sew about 1 cm wide seam on the other long edge (=hem) and on the other edge about 1,5 – 2 cm wide seam (=waist). Leave opening for rubberband.
3. Cut piece of tulle, hight of your liking. Hight of this pieces determines how long your petticoat is going to be. Tulle is usually about 140 cm wide so you can get two tulle pieces max 70 cm high. I used about 60 cm high tulle piece but they can be much shorter aswell, depending on the fact how long the skirt is with which you are planning to use this petticoat. On this petticoat will be two 4 meters long layers of tulle.
4. Measure and mark on lining where tulle layers are going to be. Upper layer atleast 15 cm from waist and lower layer 10 cm under that.
5. Ompele tyllisuikaleet kahdeksi renkaaksi (lyhyet sivut yhteen). Ompele alempi tyllisuikale kiinni merkittyyn kohtaan. Laskosta tylliä ommellessasi vähintään viisi senttiä leveille laskoksille, mutta älä laita laskoksia toistensa päälle. Jos tylliä on hankala saada tasaisesti hameen ympäri voit neulata sen laskostettuna paikoilleen ennen ompelua. Ompele samoin toinen kerros. Mitä leveämmät laskokset, sitä hillitymmin kohoava alushame. Jos laskokset ovat pieniä (esim 2 cm) tulee hameesta muhkeampi.
5. Sew tulle strips into two rings (short edges together). Sew lower layer of tulle on marked spot. Pleat it while sewing. Pleats need to be atleast 5 cm wide, but don’t put them on top of each other. If it is difficult to get tulle evenly around skirt you can pleat and pin it on before sewing. Sew upper layer the same way. The wider the pleats the smaller the skirt is. If you make small pleats (like 2 cm wide) skirt is bigger.
6. Trim the edge of both tulle layers with bias cut ribbon. It prevents sharp tulle edge scratching your skin and sticking into your tights. If you want to get petticoat with little bit more edge, you can cut tulle uneven before trimming. My petticoat is 10 cm shorter in front than back. Noticable is also that layers are different length because they are sewed on different hight. Ofcourse you can cut them even aswell.
7. Finally put the rubberband on the waist. Done!
