Mitenkäs se Murphyn laki menikään? Kaikki mikä voi mennä pieleen, menee pieleen. Ja niin se todellakin teki. Viimeviikolla ompelukoneeni alkoi kenkkuilla ja valutti valkoisille tilauspaidoille ihanat keltaiset öljyvanat jotka ilmestyivät näkyviin vasta seuraavana päivänä. Toimituspäivä siis siirtyi tälle viikolle, sillä keltaraidalliset mukavalkoiset kauluspaidat tuskin olisivat tilaajalle kelvanneet. Eipä siinä sitten muu auttanut kuin pistää ne pesuun.

Normaalisti pesussa ei olisi mitään ihmeellistä. Heität paidat koneeseen, tahranpoistot perään ja pistät pyörimään. Siinä vaiheessa kun kone pyörittää viimeisiä linkouksia ja poistaa vettä huomaat että lattialle tulee jostain vettä. Tarkistat pesukoneen liitännät, jotka ovat kaikki ok. Tarkistat myös pesualtaan viemärin ja putken, jotka ovat ok. Tutkit isompaa lattiakaivoa tarkemmin ja huomaat että vesi pulppuaakin sen rei’istä ylöspäin. Siltä seisomalta soittamaan huoltomiehelle joka tulee tarkistamaan tilanteen. Iso lattiakaivo on piripintaan täynnä kuravettä. Huoltomies tökkii kaivoon (joka siis noin metrin syvyinen 45x45cm kokoinen, metallikannella peitetty aukko lattiassa) kepillä ja toteaa että kaivon pohja on paksun hiekan peitossa eikä keppikopelolla tunnu löytyvän kaivon poistoviemäriä. Ei auta muu kuin tilata pumppuauto. Pumppuautoa odotellessa en tietenkään voi pestä loppuja öljytahraisia paitoja, ettei kaivo tulvi uudelleen.

Pumppuauto saapuu noin parin tunnin päästä eikä vesi kaivossa ole laskenut sinä aikana kuin ehkä viisi senttiä. Kaivo tyhjennetään vedestä jolloin selviää että kaivon pohja on noin 15 cm paksuudelta hiekan ja mudan peitossa. Löytyypä seasta suurehkoja kiven tai betonin murikoitakin. Kun kaivo on tyhjennetty on ilmiselvää että kaivossa ei ole poistoviemäriä, joka tarkoittaa että se onkin ylivuotokaivo eikä varsinainen viemärikaivo. Jossain muualla viemäristössä on siis oltava tukos koska ylivuotokaivo on täyttynyt ääriään myöden. Pumppuauton asiantunteva käyttäjä löytää tukoksen parin metrin päästä putkistossa ja avaa sen muutamassa minuutissa. Tämän jälkeen ylivuotokaivo täytetään puolilleen, jotta viemärin pää peittyy eikä kaivosta tule viemärinhajua työtilaan. Kansi kiinni, siivotaan jäljet ja todetaan että lattia pitäisi maalata uudelleen. Pistetään loput paidat pesuun ja todetaan että toimituspäivä siirtyy edelleen. Ompelukoneenkorjaaja tulee huomenna tai keskiviikkona.

What was that Murphy’s law again? Everything that can go wrong, goes wrong. And so it did. Last week my sewing machine went all wonky and started leaking oil on pure white shirts I was making. Streaks didn’t come visible untill next day. I had to postpone delivery day. I don’t think they would have appreciated yellow streakes on white shirts. What else can I do but to wash these shirts.

Normally there wouldn’t be anything special to it. Clothing into washing machine, some stainremover, washing powder in and it practically does the work itself. When machine is on the last spin and removing water you notice water on the floor. You check machine piping and thats ok. You check sink and it’s plumbing and its ok. Then you investicate more closely the large drain on the floor and notice that water is coming up from the holes in it. Immediate phonecall to the maintenance guy who rushes to see what’s going on. He opens the large floor drain (which is one meter deep about 45×45 cm hole on the floor, covered with metal lid). It is full to the brim with muddy water. He pokes around with a stick and figures it is full of sand and can’t find the exit drain. There is nothing else to do than order a pump vehicle to remove all the sand and water.

While waiting the pump vehicle I can’t do any more washing so that drain doesn’t flood again. Pump vehicle arrives in about two hours and sucks the water out. There is about 15 cm layer of mud and sand on the bottom of that floor drain. And couple big rocks aswell. When the drain is empty we realize there is no exit drain on it, so it must be only a overflow drain and the water shouldn’t even go there normally. That means there is another blockage somewhere. Plumbing-guy is able to locate that within couple meters away and cleans it in couple minutes. After that we fill the overflow drain half way to prevent bad smells coming up to the work space. Then just close the lid, clean the mess and notice that the floor needs painting, again. Put rest of the shirts to wash and discover that the delivery day is postponed again. Sewing machine repair-guy comes tomorrow or on wednesday.

Ah, what a lovely day for a seamstress! NOT!
