Joka vuosi yritän tuoda lukijoille jotain uutta, hauskaa ja kiinnostavaa sisältöä laidasta laitaan. Toivon siis että viihdyt tänäkin vuonna joulukalenterin parissa ja että se tuo sinulle mukavaa joulun odotusfiilistä. Jos sinulla on mielessä vielä jokin toive jonka haluaisit nähdä joulukalenterissa niin otan toiveita mielelläni vastaan ja ehkä voin ainakin jonkin toiveen toteuttaakin loppukuusta, tai myöhemminkin. Alkuperäiskansojen vettä hylkivät vaatteet / Indegenous communities waterproof garments
Tiedättekö mitä oli ennen gore-texiä? Hylkeen ja valaan suolia tietysti. Pohjoisen alkuperäiskansat osasivat valmistaa vettäpitäviä, suojaavia vaatteita vuosisatoja ennen gore-texiä. Vaatteet valmistettiin eläinten suolista monia työvaiheita vaativalla tekniikalla ja ommeltiin kasaan vedenpitävällä saumarakenteella. Lue lisää myös täältä.
Do you know what was before gore-tex? Seal and whale intestines of course. Northern indegenous people knew how to make waterproof, protective garments hundreds of years before gore-tex was invented. Garments were made from mammals intestines, including numerous steps and then sewn together with waterproof seam stitching. Read more also in here.
Downton Abbey huutokauppa / Downton Abbey auction
Bonhamin huutokauppakamari huutokauppasi syyskuussa Downton Abbeyn tuotantoon kuulunutta rekvisiittaa ja pukuja. Huutokauppa sisälsi paljon monenlaista tavaraa huonekaluista astioihin, kirjoista valaisimiin, valokuviin, muistilappuihin, luonnoksiin ja asusteisiin. Kallein esine taisi olla vuoden 1925 Sunbeam-auto. Koko listauksen lopullisine vasarahintoineen löydät linkin takaa. Mielenkiintoisinta antia ovat tietysti puvut joista näkyvät yksityiskohtaiset kuvat sekä still-kuvat kohtauksista. /
Bonham auction house auctioned a lot of props and costumes from Downton Abbey in September. Auction included lot of various things from furniture to dishes, books to lamps, photos, emephera, sketches and accessories. Most expensive item must have been 1925 Sunbeam automobil. Complete listing with final prices you can find behind the link. Most interesting are of course the costumes, with lots of detailed photos and still photos from the sets.
Dean Martinin Jouluerikoinen / Dean Martin’s Christmas special
Dean Martinin perheen ja Frank Sinatran perheen vajaan tunnin mittainen jouluerikoinen vuodelta 1967. Komediallisilla tarinatuokioilla yhteen liimattuja laulu- ja tanssinumeroita. Vitsit eivät ole ehkä vanhenneet kovin hyvin, mutta musiikki sentään on taattua Dean & Frank-laatua. Youtube-videon lopussa on noin 20 minuuttia samaa ohjelmaa uudelleen. /

Jokes have not perhaps aged so well, but atleast the music is guaranteed Dean & Frank-quality. At the end of the Youtube-video there is about 20 minutes of the same program again.

Gävle Straw goat in Sweden has been the Christmas tradition in the town of Gävle since 1960’s. It became famous because in most years over the decades, someone has burned it down before Christmas.
