Viime vuoden joulukalenterissa kerroin yhdestä harrastuksestani, mustekynillä kirjoittamisesta eli calligrafiasta. Tänä vuonna sain Käden Taidot-messuilta vihdoin hankittua kynävarren johon terä tulee kulmittain. Olen halunnut testata tällaista kynää jo pitkään, sillä kirjoittaminen pitäisi olla vähemmän kättä rasittavaa kuin tavallisella. Sain kaupan päälle myös kaksi erilaista pehmeämpää terää, Gillott 303 ja Gillot 404. Pehmeillä terillä on tarkoitus saada painoa vaihtelemalla ohuempaa ja paksumpaa jälkeä.
Ehdin nyt vihdoin testaamaan tätä oblique-kynää ja voi pojat. Totuttelu erilaiseen terän asentoon ottaa kyllä oman aikansa. Aikamoisia harakanvarpaita näistä tulikin. Saattaa olla että tekniikkani on vähän huono, pitänee perehtyä jonkun juutuubi-videon avulla tähän hommaan oikein ajan kanssa.
In last year’s Christmas calendar I told about one of my hobbies, writing with ink pens, aka calligraphy. This year’s handicraft fair was a success, because I managed to finally find oblique pen where nib is placed in an angle. I have wanted to test oblique pen for long time. Apparently writing with it should be less strain on hand. I also got two soft nibs as a bonus, Gillott 303 and Gillot 404. Soft nibs are for creating various thicknesses on the writing, just by pressing less or more.
Finally I had time to try the new oblique pen and boy, oh boy. It sure takes time to get used to the different nib angle. These squiggles don’t look pretty. I think my technique might be a bit poorly. I have to watch some youtube videos about it to get the hang of it, or something.
Lisäksi unohdin polttaa terästä varastoöljyn pois joten mustetta joutui lisämään jatkuvasti. /
I think the whole pen is in a wrong angle on my hand and that’s why it was so tricky.
Also I forgot to burn off the storage oil from the nib, so I had to keep adding ink constantly.
Kirjoittaminen ei myöskään ole hätäisen hommaa. /
These won’t be winning beauty contests any time soon.
Writing is not for hasty person either.
Kappas, en ole tuollaista ennen nähnytkään, enkä tästä erikoisuudesta kuullut .Voin hyvin kuvitella, että vaatii totuttelua. Mitä mustekynään muuten tulee, niin muistan, että kun ekaluokalle menin v. 1970, niin ostetussa postimerkkikuvioisessa penaalissani oli muiden tarvikkeiden lisäksi myös mustekynän terä ja varmaan varsikin, joka ei ole silleen jäänyt mieleen. Eihän sitä terää enää koulussa silloin tarvittu. Joku täytemustekynä kai aluksi kyllä oli käytössä. Mutta piirustushommissa käytin sitä terää .Sillä oli hyvä raaputtaa mustaa vahaväriä. Pitkään säilytin sitä terää, mutta nyt se kyllä kadonnut jonnekin jo.
Metsäntyttö – Hahaa! Ihan kuin olisin tehnyt tuota samaa, on nimittäin hämärä muistikuva että joku isän tai vaarin vanha mustekynä olisi ollut tallessa ja sillä ehkä on raaputettu mustaa vahaliitua. Ei taida meilläkään enää niitä kyniä tai teriä olla tallessa, mutta näitä uudempia ja kirppikseltä hankittuja kyllä löytyy.

I believe the last time was several years ago when you wrote about wax seals and I told you I had several including one from the Avon company (USA) that was given to me in the 70’s. I was surprised to read about your latest comments on calligraphy because that is also another hobby of mine. I try to practice and keep up with it because I love to create my own greeting cards using my own calligraphy. I have never used an oblique pen but I think I will try to find and buy one. Lamar Mendiola – Hi there! I do remember your comment about the seals. So lovely to hear from you again. I have to admit that I am well out off practice myself when it comes to calligraphy. There just never seems to be enough time to practice properly. But I also enjoy making my own greeting cards by hand. I think Santa might be bringing me some colourfull pigments for it too ;) so perhaps there is more calligraphy stuff in the blog in the future. I am glad that you have enjoyed reading my blog.
