<\/a><\/p>\nWe have returned to the city from our midsummer holiday, so I just have to share the next part of our travel journal. I’m now jumping\u00a0straight\u00a0to the end of our travels. Last visit on our trip was to Cheddar, the home of cheddar cheese. In addition to cheese, this place has the largest gorge in England and most exciting limestone caves. Caves were found by George Cox in 1837 and Richard Cox Gough in 1893-1898. Archaeologists have found signs of Ice Age life about 14700 years ago in these caves. Some archaeological finds suggest\u00a0that cannibals lived in the area. Ticket will give you access to several places to visit, from gorge to the caves, from sightseeing tower to museum of prehistory. It is damp, cold and slippery in places in the caves so sensible shoes and warm clothes are needed. Sensible shoes are also needed if you are planning to climb on top of the gorge to see the gorgeous view.<\/p>\n
The oldest full skeleton of a human found in Britain is on display in the caves. He’s named a Cheddar man and he was a hunter-gatherer who lived about 9000 years ago. The temperature in the caves is always, Winter or Summer, exactly 11 degrees, which is optimal for maturing cheese. They still mature the famous\u00a0cave-matured cheddar there. You can buy that from the little shop in the village. And there is activities for extreme people, rock climbing and caving. We left extreme stuff\u00a0for more brave people and settled for built-in route inside the caves. That was excitement enough for us. I have never been in such place before. The caves were quite astounding. It was quite dark in the caves so photo quality is what it is.<\/p>\n
