Second to last Christmas Calendar door reveals winter coat problems. I have noticed past couple winters, that as much as I love vintage winter coats, I can’t really wear them anymore. For some reason they feel very heavy on my neck and they give me shoulder and neck pain. Old coats are much heavier due to heavy and thick materials, but it also seems that the position of my neck doesn’t work with old coats and their collars. So, I went digging the basement storage. One course in my education was winter coat. Mine has been mainly in the storage ever since, pretty much unused because of impracticality. Now I started to wonder if it’s possible to fix it.<\/p>\n I designed the coat Slavic romance and heavy snowfall in mind, however it turned out that the length is pretty impractical. Atleast in cities there is pretty much impossible\u00a0to wear near full length light coloured coat\u00a0(not cold or snowy enough)<\/strong><\/span>. The lowest button is too low and makes sitting difficult. What to do, what to do? Hem atleast must be shortened, but I can’t decide if mid calf is enough, or should it be up to the knee. Then the buttoning issue. Lowest button must be removed, but how to cover the hole in the fabric? Applique, ribbon embroidery, something else, what? Collar is also a bit uncomfortable due to the asymmetrical shape.<\/p>\n I have been also thinking about the shoulder line. The course included special shoulder and sleeve type which we needed to choose (kimono sleeve, lowered sleeve, raglan sleeve etc)<\/strong><\/span>. I chose the lowered sleeve, but regret choosing it already while making the coat, because it gives way too much 80’s vibes. However I didn’t dare to change it anymore at that point. Now I can’t get over the idea that coat looks too large for me on the shoulder. I probably should have lowered the sleeve more, to avoid the feeling of too large coat. I can’t lift the sleeve that much, otherwise the sleeve gets too short and uncomfortable under arm. I have to do something to it. I might be able to find some scarps of the fabric from my stash, if I’m lucky. I’m not sure though if there is any.
