Joulukalenterin ensimm\u00e4inen vintage-aarre on viidennen luukun monille lapsuudesta tuttu View-master<\/a>. View-masterin sis\u00e4\u00e4n ty\u00f6nnet\u00e4\u00e4n py\u00f6re\u00e4 kuvakiekko, jota liikutetaan laitteessa olevan vivun avulla. Laite n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 kuvat kolmiulotteisina. Suosituimpia ker\u00e4ilt\u00e4vi\u00e4 kiekkoja taitavat olla erilaiset satukiekot, mutta kiekkoja sai aikanaan my\u00f6s eri maiden n\u00e4ht\u00e4vyyksist\u00e4, maisemista ja rakennuksista. Omasta kokoelmasta l\u00f6ytyy niin 70-luvun punainen muovinen\u00a0View-master (Malli J)<\/strong><\/span>, kuin vanhempi 50-luvun bakeliittinen versio (Malli E)<\/strong><\/span> joka on k\u00e4teen painavampi. Vanhempi View-master on omassa alkuper\u00e4isess\u00e4 laatikossaan. Kiekkoja minulla ei ole kovin montaa ja niist\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyy l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 n\u00e4ht\u00e4vyyksi\u00e4. Satukiekoista en niin kamalasti v\u00e4lit\u00e4.<\/p>\n

Aidon View-masterin historia alkaa 30-luvulta jolloin se kehitettiin ajatuksena k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 sit\u00e4 l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 aikuisten opetuksessa apuv\u00e4lineen\u00e4. Vastoin odotuksia siit\u00e4 kuitenkin tuli lasten suosikki. View-mastereihin sai my\u00f6s erilaisia lis\u00e4laitteita, kuten valonl\u00e4hteit\u00e4 jolloin kiekkojen katselu oli hiukan helpompaa, tai stereokameroita joilla saattoi ottaa\u00a0omia stereokuvia. Vastaavia katselulaitteita on toki ollut my\u00f6s muilla valmistajilla.<\/p>\n

Stereokuvia on silti katseltu jo ennen View-masteria ja 30-lukua. 20-luvulla stereokuvia saattoi katsella kokoontaittuvalla metallisella katselulaitteella. Erilaisia stereogrammien katselulaitteita on valmistettu jo huomattavasti paljon aiemmin. 1830-luvulla kehitettiin tekniikka jossa peilien avulla saattoi katsella kolmiulotteista kuvaa. My\u00f6hemmin 1800-luvulla kehitettiin toisenlaisia tekniikoita ja laitteesta saatiin pienikokoisempi. Stereoskoopista on kehitetty my\u00f6s erilaisia yhdistelm\u00e4laitteita kuten grafoskooppi jossa on stereoskoopin lis\u00e4ksi suurennuslasi valokuvien ja tekstien l\u00e4hemp\u00e4\u00e4 tarkastelua varten. Muutama vuosi sitten l\u00f6ysin kirppikselt\u00e4 tuollaisen grafoskoopin tiet\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 mik\u00e4 se on. Sen myyj\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n ei tiennyt. Valitettavasti laitteesta puuttuvat kaikki linssit, mutta ajatuksena on entist\u00e4\u00e4 se kuntoon jossain vaiheessa. Olen my\u00f6s onnistunut ker\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n pienen kokoelman stereokuvia, joita on blogissakin n\u00e4hty aiemmin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

First Vintage treasure, in the Christmas Calendars fifth door is View-master<\/a>, familiar to some from their childhood. There are picture discs that you push inside the viewer and rotate them with a lever. Device shows them in 3D. Most popular picture discs are all sorts of fairytales, but you could also buy discs about tourist attratcions, scenery or buildings in different countries. I have the most common 70’s red plastic View-master (Model J)<\/strong><\/span> and older and heavier 50’s bakelite View-master (Model E)<\/strong><\/span>. Old viewer is in it’s original box. I don’t have very many discs and they are mostly sight and famous places. I don’t really care much about fairytale-reels.<\/p>\n

Story of the authentic View-master starts in the 30’s. It was developed for educational purposes for adults. However opposite to the plans, it became kids favourite. You could get all sorts of additional equipment like light sources or stereoscopic cameras for photographying\u00a0your own stereopictures. There’s been similar stereo viewers on other manufacturers too.<\/p>\n

There has been stereoscopic pictures already before View-master and before 30’s. In the 20’s you could watch them with folding metallic viewer. Different types of stereoskopes have been built already long before that. In the 1830’s was developed a technique where stereo pictures were created with two mirrors. Later in the 1800’s different techniques were developed and viewer became smaller. There’s also been combination viewers with magnifying glasses called graphoscopes. They were meant for stereograms, ordinary photos and texts. Couple years ago I managed to find graphoscope from flea market, without knowing what it is. Seller didn’t know either. Unfortunately all the lenses are missing, but my plan is some day to fix it in working condition. I have also managed to find small\u00a0collection of stereograms, which I have posted in the blog aswell<\/a>.<\/p>\n
