Price and ecological aspects<\/strong><\/span> Making the Hair rat<\/strong><\/span> Gather your collected loose hair or bundles together and start forming the rat. Roll the hair or bundles between the palms of your hands \u00a0to create the shape and size you want, pressing your hands together at the same time. It’s like making buns or felting a ball. If you got bundles, you can try pulling hair of them and twist them around other bundles to keep them attached to each other. \u00a0You can even try felting needle if you like to make it more dense. If you use loose hair, they need to get lot more dense and solid before hair rat is usable. Loose ball of hair doesn’t work, because it’s too soft and fragile. When the hair rat feels dense enough and the shape is your liking, wrap a fine hair net in suitable colour tightly around it (second photo)<\/strong><\/span>. Hair net keeps the rat in shape and prevents bundles coming off. If hair rat is tightly uniformed and pieces don’t come of, it works even without the net.<\/p>\n And then you’re ready to make the hairdo’s. \nThe colour options on readymade hair fillings are limited. Sometimes the hair rat might show through hair, so wrong colour is going to stand out. The colour of homemade rat matches perfectly your own colour, which allows it to camouflage better in your hairdo.<\/p>\n
\nMany readymade hair rats are quite large and changing the size or shape can be tricky. I usually prefer a bit more modest ones. It’s easier to adjust the size and shape to your liking when you make your own. You can also make several different sizes and shapes for different purposes.<\/p>\n
\nReadymade hair rats are often quite stiff and dense. I sometimes have problems getting the hairpin through. When it’s made of your own hair, it’s light, soft and pins go through as easy, as they would in ordinary hairdo.<\/p>\n
\nHair rat made of your own hair doesn’t really cost anything, except your time and effort. It is also ecological, because manufacturing didn’t cause any load on nature.<\/p>\n

You can either collect loose hair after every time you brush, or leave hair to the brush to create\u00a0a flat bundle. \u00a0I collected bundles. However loose hair is easier to form into hair rat than flat bundles.\u00a0\u00a0If collected hair feels dirty or they have loads of hairspray or other products, you can wash them. Washing makes the pile of hair tighter and more dense, so you can leave the washing after you have formed the hair rat.<\/p>\n
