Have you ever thought that there are new sounds being born to the world all the time (I thought about it, sometimes it can be dangerous to think, but this time not so much)<\/strong><\/span>. The kind of sounds which earlier generations knew nothing about. Like for example mechanical pencil. Every one of us modern time people knows what it sounds when you insert new lead into the mechanical pencil. It’s a bit of a scratchy click.<\/p>\n

Let’s assume there’s two people in the room. The other one is his\/her back towards the other. The one facing the other one, inserts lead inside the mechanical pencil and starts clicking the pencil to get the lead towards the tip. And the one turned away, knows immediately what the other one is doing, without even looking, because they know the sound. At that point the person is thinking, oh, there’s my friend inserting the lead to the pencil. Most amazing thing about this to me is that people before the invention of mechanical pencil didn’t have any clue what that kind of sound would sound like, nor that it actually would exist at one point in time.<\/p>\n

By the way, did you knew that the earliest known mechanical pencil was found from the wreck of HMS Pandora, sunk in 1791. First patent for mechanical pencil was granted in England in 1822. Patent was applied by business partners S. Mordan and J.I. Hawkins. Mordan did buy Hawkins’ share of the patent and continued with various business partners, untill the Second World War, when the factory was bombed. In Japan mechanical pencil became popular in 1915 when young metal worker Mr. Hayakawa introduced some improvements to the pencil. Companies in Tokyo and Osaka made large orders and “Ever Ready Sharp Pencil” was a success. Company has become well known worldwide later with the name Sharp.<\/p>\n
