Vapriikki-vintagessa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4ni 1900-luvun alun tyylinen hattu on saanut niin paljon kehuja, ett\u00e4 ajattelin kertoa hatusta v\u00e4h\u00e4n enemm\u00e4n. Hattu ei oikeasti ole kovin vanha vaikka n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4kin aika autenttiselta. Kangaskerrosten alta paljastuu 80- tai 90-luvun olkinen hellehattu. Se oli pallomaisine kupuineen p\u00e4\u00e4h\u00e4ni aivan v\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n muotoinen ja painoi ik\u00e4v\u00e4sti otsalta. P\u00e4\u00e4tin uhrata hatun ja tehd\u00e4 siit\u00e4 jotain ihan muuta.\u00a0Modistin koulutusta minulla ei ole, n\u00e4it\u00e4 hattuhommeleita teen \u00a0soveltamalla. Ty\u00f6vaihe-kuvia ei t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa ole koska hattu on jo parisen vuotta vanha enk\u00e4 tehdess\u00e4 ehtinyt niit\u00e4 ottaa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Leikkasin kuvun irti tyvest\u00e4 niin ett\u00e4 pelkk\u00e4 lieri j\u00e4i j\u00e4ljelle. Leikkuureunan suojasin ompelemalla siihen puuvillakaistaleen. Sitten muotoilin bukramista (er\u00e4\u00e4nlaista liimalla kovetettua verkkomaista tukikangasta, jota k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n hattujen valmistukseen)<\/strong><\/span> ja puuvillakankaasta uuden j\u00e4m\u00e4k\u00e4n kuvun, joka on matala mutta eritt\u00e4in leve\u00e4. P\u00e4\u00e4llystin kuvun vintage-puuvillapitsill\u00e4 niin ett\u00e4 se muodostaa kuvun p\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 ryppyj\u00e4. Lierin p\u00e4\u00e4llystin mustalla sifongilla jolloin koristeellinen olkipunos kuultaa siit\u00e4 hieman l\u00e4pi. Pitsin ja sifongin liitoskohtaan kiedoin sifonkia jonka sitoo yhteen hopeanv\u00e4rinen solki. Soljen alla koristeena on kotimaisia strutsinsulkia sek\u00e4 riikinkukonsulkia. Vapriikin tapahtumaa varten lis\u00e4sin hattuun viel\u00e4 strassi-korun soljen p\u00e4\u00e4lle.<\/p>\n

Tyylilt\u00e4\u00e4n hattu edustaa 1910-luvun alun muotia. Tuon ajan (jota usein Belle Epoqueksi mainitaan)<\/strong><\/span> naisilla oli muhkeat ja hyvin kuohkeat kampaukset, joten hattujenkin piti olla suuria. Ne kiinnitettiin p\u00e4\u00e4h\u00e4n pitkin hattuneuloin ja niiss\u00e4 saattoi olla hyvinkin n\u00e4ytt\u00e4vi\u00e4 koristeita. Vuosikymmenen loppua kohden hatut pieneniv\u00e4t maltillisempaan kokoon ennekuin 20-luvulla kutistuivat minimaalisiksi, p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00e4my\u00f6t\u00e4ileviksi kupuhatuiksi.<\/p>\n

My hat in recent vintage-style photos has got quite a lot of admiration so I decided to write more about it. Hat is not that old really, even though it might look quite authentic. Under the fabrics is either 80’s or 90’s straw sunhat. It didn’t fit my head at all, with it’s ball-shaped crown. So I decided to sacrifice it and turn it into something else. I don’t have any education for millinery, so I work with the hats based on what I have learned from the internet. This time I don’t have any photos of unfinished hat, because this was made couple years ago and I didn’t take any photos while making it.<\/p>\n

I cut the crown off and left only the brim. I trimmed the raw edge with fabric strip. Then I used buckram (it’s a fusible sturdy netting for hatmaking)<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0and cotton fabric to form a new sturdy crown, which was very wide, but not too high. I covered the new crown with vintage cotton lace creating wrinkles on top. I also covered the brim with black chiffon. That way the decorative straw shows a bit through. I also tied chiffon scarf around the base of the crown and tied it with silver colour buckle. Under the buckle I added some ostrich feathers (from local farm)<\/strong><\/span> and peacock feathers. For the vintage-event I also added rhinestone brooch over the buckle.<\/p>\n

Style of the hat is early 1910’s. Ladies had huge and fluffy hairdo’s at that time (often referred as La Belle Epoqu\u00e9)<\/strong><\/span>, so hats needed to be large aswell. They were attatched with long hatpins and they often had rather ravishing decor. Towards the end of the decade the hats got smaller and in the 20’s they turned into very minimalistic cloches.<\/p>\n
