T\u00e4m\u00e4 omani on sen verran huonokuntoinen ett\u00e4 rahallista arvoa sill\u00e4 ei juurikaan ole. Sinettileimasimen varsi on visakoivua, mutta leimasinosa on ruostunut niin pahoin ett\u00e4 alkuper\u00e4ist\u00e4 kuviota ei en\u00e4\u00e4 erota. During this weekend I was supposed to write couple bigger and time consuming posts but my migrain decided otherwise. So I had to publish one post earlier than I planned and a bit unfinished and postpone those more time consuming posts. For today I also had to make a post I had planned to be published a bit later.<\/p>\n But without further whine, let’s go to the issue. This time the vintage treasure is a bit more unusual. These items were found in a one-room-cottage on our family home yard. My grandfathers mother Ida Kustaava used to live there before she passed away in 1971. Along with the paper there was an old Swedish coin and old seal stamp.<\/p>\n Badly damaged document written in swedish, is about a debt, which my ancestor Thomas Johansson Kuockanen (in official papers it was common to use swedish versions of names, Tuomas Juhonpoika was his real name, Kuokkanen is the farm name)<\/strong> <\/span>has apparently paid with riksdaler (old swedish currency)<\/strong><\/span> in 4th of September in 1814. Our farm (where mum still lives)<\/strong><\/span> used to be tennant farm for Kantola Mansion, and is has been rented\/owned by our family over 200 years. Thomas came to the farm for a husband to the heiress Liisa Juhontyt\u00e4r. They got married in 26.12.1799 and Thomas died in 23.12.1826. At that time in Finland many people didn’t have proper family name, they were just referred as someones sons and daughters, like Thomas was Juho’s son and by coincident Liisa was also Juho’s daughter (different Juho of course)<\/strong><\/span>. Juho was very common name at that time for men, in my family there has been dozens of Juho’s. There was even couple Juho Juho’s sons. So knowing this it was handy to have something to separate all these people from each other, that’s why they refer him with the farm name as well. You can imagine that doing the family research is not easy with these names.<\/p>\n One \u00f6re coin has been minted in 1739. Finland was part of Sweden all the way until 1809 when it moved under Russian rule. There are loads of these coins left, mine is in rather wornout condition so it is not worth much on money. The wax seals handle is made of Birch Carelica or curly birch (named after the decorative patterns in the wood grains)<\/strong><\/span>, but the actual stamp is so rusted, it’s impossible to see what the original seal was like. Too bad, it would have been lovely to use the family seal.
