En kuitenkaan ole koskaan ollut mik\u00e4\u00e4n mestarikokki enk\u00e4 muutenkaan hirve\u00e4n innostunut ruuanlaitosta. Omat kokkaukseni koostuvatkin l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 hyvin helpoista ja yksinkertaisista resepteist\u00e4 ja ruuista. Joitakin sellaisia olen blogissakin jakanut ja niit\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyy tuolta Jotain sy\u00f6t\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4-kategorian alta.<\/p>\n<p>Muutama vuosi sitten ostamassani kirjassa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Every-Woman-Should-Edition-Daily\/dp\/1907176624\" target=\"_blank\">What every woman should know<\/a> on koottuna Daily Mail lehden palstoilla 30-luvulla julkaistuja ohjeita ja vinkkej\u00e4. Ne kattavat kaikenlaista muodista ja kauneudesta aina taloudenhoitoon ja ruokiin. Kirjassa on my\u00f6s eritt\u00e4in yksinkertainen punajuurikeiton resepti. Pari vuosikymment\u00e4 sitten, niihin aikoihin kun muutin Tampereelle, t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 oli tsekkin\u00e4inen ravintola tuossa keskustassa, Kauppakadulla. K\u00e4vin siell\u00e4 yst\u00e4v\u00e4ni kanssa sy\u00f6m\u00e4ss\u00e4 ja he tarjosivat alkuruokana aivan t\u00e4ydellist\u00e4, kielell\u00e4 mukavasti polttelevaa punajuurikeittoa. Ravintola lopetti valitettavasti jo vuosia sitten joten j\u00e4in kaipaamaan punajuurikeittoa. Siksip\u00e4 halusinkin testata tuota Daily Mailin punajuurikeiton resepti\u00e4. En seurannut alkuper\u00e4ist\u00e4 resepti\u00e4 ihan pilkulleen koska kokkasin sit\u00e4 hieman ex tempore eik\u00e4 kaapissa ollut kaikkea tarvittavaa, mutta l\u00e4helt\u00e4 liippaa.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Punajuurikeitto<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(alkuper\u00e4inen 30&#8211;luvun resepti vapaasti suomennettuna)<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nSulata 30 grammaa pekonirasvaa suuressa kastikepannussa. Lis\u00e4\u00e4 pilkottuna yksi suuri punajuuri, kolme pilkottua tomaattia, silputtu sipuli, pilkottu porkkana ja pieni pala pilkottua naurista. Kypsenn\u00e4 noin 10 minuuttia miedolla l\u00e4mm\u00f6ll\u00e4, lis\u00e4\u00e4 sitten 4 kupillista lihalient\u00e4 ja 250 grammaa y\u00f6n yli liotettuja valkopapuja <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(haricot beans)<\/strong><\/span>. Mausta suolalla ja pippurilla ja anna hautua miedolla l\u00e4mm\u00f6ll\u00e4 kaksi tuntia. Paina keitto siivil\u00e4n l\u00e4pi, laita takaisin pannulle, lis\u00e4\u00e4 teelusikallinen etikkaa ja l\u00e4mmit\u00e4 uudestaan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Oma versioni punajuurikeitosta<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n1 iso punajuuri<br \/>\n1 porkkana<br \/>\n1 tomaatti<br \/>\n1 pieni sipuli<br \/>\n1 dl punaisia linssej\u00e4<br \/>\n1 kasvisfondi-nappi<br \/>\n6 dl vett\u00e4<br \/>\nsuolaa &amp; pippuria<br \/>\netikkaa<\/p>\n<p>Kuori ja pilko vihannekset. Lis\u00e4\u00e4 kasariin reilu nokare voita ja paista kasviksia miedolla l\u00e4mm\u00f6ll\u00e4 noin 10 minuuttia. Lis\u00e4\u00e4 6 desi\u00e4 vett\u00e4, 1 kasvisfondinappi ja 1 dl huuhdeltuja punaisia linssej\u00e4 sek\u00e4 suolaa ja pippuria maun mukaan. Anna hautua miedolla l\u00e4mm\u00f6ll\u00e4 kaksi tuntia tai kunnes kasvikset ovat pehmenneet. Painele keitto siivil\u00e4n l\u00e4pi kattilaan tai soseuta sauvasekoittimella. Lis\u00e4\u00e4 noin yksi teelusikallinen etikkaa ja kuumenna uudestaan. Etikka korostaa keiton makuja ja antaa sille lis\u00e4potkua. Keitto sopii tarjottavaksi h\u00f6yry\u00e4v\u00e4n kuumana chiapatta-leiv\u00e4n kanssa, vaikkapa kylm\u00e4n\u00e4 talvip\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4 keitto on aika sosemaista, jos haluat siit\u00e4 juoksevampaa, k\u00e4yt\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n vett\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p>Keitto maistuu parhaalta todellakin h\u00f6yry\u00e4v\u00e4n kuumana, omani ehti jo tuossa valokuvatessa hieman j\u00e4\u00e4hty\u00e4. Maku oli kuitenkin oikein hyv\u00e4, punajuuri maistui selke\u00e4sti vaikka keitossa on vain yksi punajuuri. Punajuuri on yksi suosikkijuureksistani joten t\u00e4m\u00e4 sopii minulle oikein hyvin. Itse tykk\u00e4\u00e4n my\u00f6s lis\u00e4t\u00e4 t\u00e4llaisiin kasvissosekeittoihin hieman ranskankermaa tai smetanaa pinnalle juuri ennen ruokailua. Omasta keitostani tuli my\u00f6s aika pippurista, lis\u00e4sin sek\u00e4 valko- ett\u00e4 mustapippuria, sill\u00e4 pid\u00e4n kummankin mausta. Yleens\u00e4 tykk\u00e4\u00e4n maustaa ruokani varsin simppelisti, suolaa ja pippuria ja joskus valkosipulia ja tuoreita yrttej\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/inenglish.gif\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7004\" alt=\"inenglish\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/inenglish.gif?resize=214%2C100\" width=\"214\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Quite long time now I have wanted to try some vintage cooking recipes, just out of curiosity. After finding the blog called\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/isoaidinreseptilla.blogspot.fi\/\" target=\"_blank\">Iso\u00e4idin reseptill\u00e4<\/a> <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(engl. With Grandmothers recipe, blog in finnish)<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0where the blogger is cooking with 100 years old cookery book, I got even more excited about it. However, I have never been very good cook, nor even excited about cooking. My own cooking usually goes with very easy and quick recipes and foods. Some of those I have even shared in the blog, they can be found under Food-tag.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Every-Woman-Should-Edition-Daily\/dp\/1907176624\" target=\"_blank\">What every woman should know<\/a>, a book I bought couple years back, has 30&#8217;s Daily Mail lifestyle tips, including fashion, beauty, cooking etc. Book also has very simple recipe for beetroot soup. Couple decades ago, about the time when I moved to Tampere, there was a lovely small Czech restaurant in the center. I went there with my friend and they served most perfect, spicy beetroot soup for a starter. Unfortunately the restaurant is long gone, so I miss that soup. That is why I now wanted to try out this beetroot soup recipe. I didn&#8217;t follow the recipe to the point, because I didn&#8217;t have all the ingredients at home, but it&#8217;s close enough.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Beetroot soup<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong> (original recipe by Daily Mail in 30&#8217;s)<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nMelt an ounce of bacon fat in a large saucepan, add one large sliced beetroot, three cup-up tomatoes, a chopped onion, a cut-up carrot and a small piece of cut-up turnip. Cook to gether fo ten minutes over a slow fire and add a quart of stock and half a pound of haricot beans, which have been soaked overnight. \u00a0Season with salt and pepper and simmer gently for two hours. Pass the soup through a sieve, return to the saucepan with a teaspoon of vinegar and re-heat<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>My version of beetroot soup<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n1 large beetroot<br \/>\n1 carrot<br \/>\n1 tomato<br \/>\n1 small onion<br \/>\n1 dl of red lentils<br \/>\n1 vegetable stock fond button<br \/>\n6 dl of water<br \/>\nsalt &amp; pepper<br \/>\nvinegar<\/p>\n<p>Peel and chop all vegetables. Cook on mild temperature in a sauce pan with butter, for about 10 minutes. \u00a0Add water, vegetable stock fond and rinsed red lentils. Season with salt and pepper. Allow to simmer on mild temperature for two hours or until vegetables are soft. Pass through sieve or mix with blender until smooth. Add about one teaspoon of vinegar and re-heat. Vinegar adds some oomph to the flavours. Serve hot with chiapatta bread on a cold winter day. This soup is quite thick, if you want it thinner, use more water.<\/p>\n<p>The soup is at it&#8217;s best when steaming hot, but mine already cooled down a bit while taking the photo. Taste was still very nice, beetroot flavour is very strong, even though there is only one beetroot in the recipe. Beetroot is one of my favourite vegetable so that suits me fine. I also like to add some sour cream stuff, like creme fraiche on top of vegetable soup just before eating. My soup turned out rather peppery, I added both white and black pepper.
