Mutta t\u00e4n\u00e4\u00e4n en hehkuttele itsen\u00e4isyysp\u00e4iv\u00e4n vastaanoton asuja vaikka juhla poikkeuksellisesti vietet\u00e4\u00e4nkin kotikaupungissani <span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>(pit\u00e4isik\u00f6 menn\u00e4 kyyl\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n Tampere-talon nurkille jos n\u00e4kisi julkkiksia?)<\/strong><\/span>. Sen sijaan katsomme taaksep\u00e4in siihen aikaan kun Suomi itsen\u00e4istyi. Olen vuosien mittaan ker\u00e4nnyt nipun vanhoja valokuvia. L\u00e4hesk\u00e4\u00e4n kaikissa valokuvissa ei ole tarkkaa vuosilukua, mutta vaatteista voidaan kutakuinkin p\u00e4\u00e4tell\u00e4 milloin ne on kuvattu. Tarkastellaan siis hieman millaiselta muoti n\u00e4ytti Suomen itsen\u00e4istymisen aikoihin. Ajatuksenani oli ett\u00e4 kuvissa esiintyisi suomalaista muotia, mutta tarkempi tutkiskelu osoitti ett\u00e4 suuri osa kuvista on kuvattu jossakin muualla, mutta eip\u00e4 anneta sen h\u00e4irit\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/inenglish.gif\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7004\" alt=\"inenglish\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/inenglish.gif?resize=214%2C100\" width=\"214\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Behind the sixth door of my Calendar we celebrate independent Finland. Our country got independent 6.12.1917 and every year our current president hosts an Independence day reception at the President Castle, Helsinki. However, this year the castle is under repairs so the reception is being held in my home town, Tampere <span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong>(should I go and see if I can spot any celebrities?)<\/strong><\/span>. The event is being televised and it&#8217;s popular amusement to watch what people are wearing. Today I won&#8217;t go through those gowns in my blog, but we look back to the time of the actual independence. During years I have collected pile of old photos. Not all of them have dates on them, but based on what people are wearing on them, I&#8217;m able to estimate the time. So let&#8217;s have a look of what the fashion was around the time when Finland got independent. My original idea was to show fashion from Finland. Huomatkaa taidokas palmikkokampaus ja puseron erikoiset rypyli\u00e4iset koristenapit. Kabinettikortin kuva on muutenkin hieman ep\u00e4tyypillinen sivuprofiilikuva, joka ehk\u00e4 valittu juuri n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4n kampauksen vuoksi.<br \/>\nValokuvan on ottanut Fritz Bruce. Notice the skilfull hairdo and decorative buttons on the blouse. Cabinet card photo is rather unusual because it is side profile, but that might have been chosen because of the pretty hairdo.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Photo is taken by Fritz Bruce. Card is dated 8\/4 1913 in Liverpool on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kommandobryggan.se\/bohus\/borgila.htm\" target=\"_blank\">S\/S Borgila<\/a>. Brother Knut is writing to his dear sister and sending greetings to his uncle and aunt. One Mister Fred Olsen from Norway is also mentioned on the card, but I can&#8217;t \u00a0figure out if the man with chubby moustache is actually Knut or Fred. Either way, this gentleman is rather stylish with his bowler hat and wool coat. What do you mean people didn&#8217;t travel much in the old days? Outfit is typical from 1910&#8217;s, though not so common style in Finland, but you can easily imagine this on the deck of Titanic. As it was fashionable at that time, dress is wider on the hem, neckline is rather open v-type and decorative blouse or separate bodice is worn under. Miehen hattu muistuttaa hieman knallia, mutta lieri n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 leve\u00e4mm\u00e4lt\u00e4. Both are wearing typical 1910&#8217;s outfits. She has ankle length skirt and loose blouse with wide collar. I assume photo has been taken during summer because she is wearing light colours, like the habbit was at that time. He has double breasted suit without overcoat. This is also very typical outfit from 1910&#8217;s. Skirt is tight around waist, hem wider at the ankles, blouse is loose with cropped sleeves. According to some sources, girls started to wear white confirmation dresses in Finland around 1910&#8217;s. So this photo is possibly confirmation photo. Photography studio Valokuvaamo Suomi was working in Tampere during 1914-1927. In the early 1900&#8217;s it was popular to have yourself photographed with family or friends. Often the photos were made into post cards which you could send to your relatives in another country or to a good friend. Behind this photo is also printed the post card lines for address, but it was never sent.
