Hieman asiaa tutkailtuani, sain selville ett\u00e4 mikromosaiikkeja on alettu valmistaa Italiassa jo antiikin Rooman aikaan.\u00a0 T\u00e4llaiset mikromosaiikkiset rintaneulat tulivat suosituksi tuliaiseksi ns.\u00a0 Grand Tour-kautena jolloin turistit hankkivat niit\u00e4 matkamuistoiksi Roomasta. Erityisen suosittuja ne olivat Viktoriaanisella ajalla johon Grand Tour-kausi p\u00e4\u00e4ttyi. Koska en ole n\u00e4iden korujen asiantuntija niin en osaa sanoa korun tarkkaa ik\u00e4\u00e4, mutta arvelisin sen olevan ehk\u00e4 30-40-lukua. Mikromosaiikkikoruihin perehtynyt asiantuntija pystyisi mosaiikkipalojen koon, lukon mallin ja muiden yksityiskohtien perusteella arvioimaan i\u00e4n paljon tarkemmin.<\/p>\n

\nExhausting muggy heat wave is starting to squeeze the juices out of me again. Thankfully I have remembered to keep my liquid balance good this time. My problem is that I’m very rarely thirsty, so even that doesn’t hint that I should do something about it. Only suitable clothing at this point is cobweb thin cotton. I like this dress because it breathes and flowy skirts feel light enough on hot weather. I got it from flea market year or two ago with just couple coins.<\/p>\n

This particular dress was not in my mind when I bought this micro mosaic brooch from flea market couple weeks ago. I just realized today, when I wanted to wear it, that it matches exactly with the colours of this dress. On the backside of the brooch is hallmark “FAP Made in Italy”. I did some investicating and found out that italians made micro mosaics already during Ancient Rome. Micro mosaic jewelry became more popular during the so called Grand Tour period when tourists got them as souvenirs from Rome. They were especially popular during Victorian period, on which the Grand Tour-period ended. Micro Mosaic jewelry is made of tiny pieces of glass which are mounted to glass mass base and then attached to the brooch. Value of these jewelry varies depending on age, condition and how small pieces of mosaic are. Also the theme affects. Flowers and sight seeings are more common and not as valuable as more rare insects or animals. Even the manufacturer affects on the price. Pieces from more well-known manufacturers are more desired and therefore also more expensive.<\/p>\n

This brooch has a special push tube lock (also called trombone lock)<\/strong><\/span>, which I have never seen before. According to the information found on interwebs, this type of lock mechanism is mainly used in Europe, since 1850’s to this date, but it’s not very common mechanism. Because I’m not the specialist of these kind of jewelry, I can’t determine the exact age of this brooch, but I’m estimating it to be from 30’s or 40’s. Expert on micro mosaic jewelry would be able to determine more accurate age according to the size of the mosaic pieces, lock type and other details.<\/p>\n
