Olen vuosia karsastanut pelargonioita. Ne roskaavat kukinnan p\u00e4\u00e4tytty\u00e4 eiv\u00e4tk\u00e4 ole kukattomina kovin kauniita, mutta olen viimeaikoina alkanut v\u00e4h\u00e4n muuttaa mielt\u00e4ni. Perlargoniat ovat perinteisi\u00e4 suomalaisia huonekasveja. Niit\u00e4 on alettu pit\u00e4\u00e4 huonekasveina jo 1800-luvun alussa, ja sit\u00e4 ennen niit\u00e4 on jo kasvatettu kasvihuoneissa kustavilaisena aikana 1700-luvun lopulla. Yksi lempikukkani on hortensia, perinteinen huonekasvi sekin, 1800-luvun puoliv\u00e4list\u00e4. Erityisen suosittu hortensia oli 20- ja 30-luvuilla kun se levisi my\u00f6s maaseudulle. Pelakuut ovat kuitenkin huomattavasti edullisempia hankkia kuin hortensia. P\u00e4\u00e4dyn siis luultavasti pelakuihin sek\u00e4 ehk\u00e4 pienimuotoiseen hy\u00f6tykasvivalikoimaan. Ehk\u00e4p\u00e4 v\u00e4h\u00e4n salaattia ja minttua tai sitruunamelissaa.<\/p>\n
Parvekkeen muun sisustuksen suhteen en ole viel\u00e4 saanut varsinaista mestari-ajatusta. Ehk\u00e4 se ajatus pulpahtaa sitten kun ensin saamme is\u00e4nn\u00e4n kanssa raivattua nuo h\u00e4vitt\u00e4mist\u00e4 odottavat romut pois. Vai olisiko teill\u00e4 ideoita?<\/p>\n
IN ENGLISH<\/strong><\/span> Our balcony is quite large and fully covered and glassed. Allthough, up at the rooftop next to the wall is tiny hole where birds can fit in, even when the glasses are closed. This is why our balcony looks like construction site. Little birds go in through the hole and love to pick the insulation material and throw it on our balcony. Twice this spring I’ve had to chase a bird out of our balcony. Above neighbours balcony is a hole big enough for pigeon nest.<\/p>\n But back to the actual issue. This summer I’d love to have a proper pretty balcony. Out with the junk and in with some prettiness. Perhaps even some greeneries (and no, I don’t mean mold, already tried that)<\/strong><\/span>. I want to create cozy extention to our living room, place comfy enough to have breakfast or spend some time reading. My problem is the common one, no money. So any half-free (or free)<\/strong><\/span> ideas are most welcome!<\/p>\n My other problem is that I am most systematically able to kill all plants. I’m still going to try some sort of balcony garden. I have years and years hated geraniums. They make lots of rubbish when blooming is over and they don’t look very pretty without flowers either. Lately I have still started to change my mind. Geraniums are traditional housplants here in Finland. They’ve been grown in green houses as early as in 1700’s and as house plants early 1800’s. One of my favourite flower is hydrangea, another traditional house plant since mid 1800’s. Hydrangea was especially popular in Finland in 1920’s and 30’s when it made it to the countryside. However geraniums are much cheaper to get than hydrangea, here in Finland. So geraniums it probably is and perhaps some green stuff like lettuce and maybe mint or lemon balm.<\/p>\n I haven’t really got my master plan for the decoration of the balcony yet. Perhaps I get my idea when we actually manage to clear the junk out. Or do you have any ideas?<\/p>\n Junk yard balcony<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
\nIf I show you something horribly ugly, will you promise not to die from the shock? Or change blog? This is actually quite embarrassing, but our balcony is quite hideous. It has lately been mostly used as ventilated hobby craft corner and junk storage. In winter time when it is constantly dark and cold, it hasn’t really mattered so much.
