20- ja 30-luvuilla tweed-k\u00e4velypuvut olivat suosittuja. Ne olivat k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6llisi\u00e4 ja l\u00e4mpimi\u00e4 arkivaatteita ja sopivat uuteen aktiivisen nuoren naisen el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n. Ensimm\u00e4isen maailmansodan j\u00e4lkeen syntyi uudenlainen ty\u00f6ss\u00e4k\u00e4yvien naisten joukko. Asiantuntijoiden mukaan kaikkein laadukkainta tweedi\u00e4 on Harris Tweed joka on maailman ainoa kangas jonka tuotanto on Parlamentin s\u00e4\u00e4d\u00f6ksen suojelema. Aito Harris Tweed kudotaan edelleen k\u00e4sin. Sit\u00e4 valmistavat vain Skotlannin Ulko-Hebrideill\u00e4 asuvat saaristolaiset. On lienee sanomattakin selv\u00e4\u00e4 ett\u00e4 Harris Tweed<\/a> on varsin kallista kangasta. Onneksi maailmasta l\u00f6ytyy edullisempiakin tweedlaatuja meille joilla ei ole varaa Harrisiin.<\/p>\n

\nIn the comments of my previous post I mentioned that I have been planning on making 20’s style jacket to be worn with my tweed skirt. Well I got so excited about it so I decided to start the project straight away. My selection of light weight spring and autumn coats are quite small, non-excistant I might say. I wanted to gather some inspiration for tweed outfits and tiny tweed-info package for your pleasure.<\/p>\n

Tweed suits became popular amongst women in the 20’s and 30’s. They were practical and warm everyday wear and suited nicely to women’s new active life. After WW I, new type of working women were formed. Women had money to use for themselves, but they also needed suitable outfits for activities. Untill 20’s, tweed has been considered as masculine material. Coco Chanel was the pioneer of comfy everyday-wear. She loved practical and comfy fabrics like tweed and jersey. Coco borrowed ideas from men’s clothes without any hesitation and created her iconic Chanel Jacket in the 20’s, made of tweed of course.<\/p>\n

Tweed is originated to 18th century Scotland. Later different weaves and softer materials have added to the selection of tweeds. According to professionals, Harris Tweed is the best quality tweed there is. It is the only fabric in the world that has been protected by the Act of Parliament. Genuine Harris Tweed is still hand woven. It is made by the islanders living in Outer Hebrides, Scotland. It goes without saying, Harris Tweed<\/a> is very expensive material. Thankfully world is full of cheaper quality tweeds for us who can’t afford Harris.<\/p>\n
