Vintageharrastajia toki kiinnostaa eniten millaisia vaateaarteita Neiti Clark on jättänyt jälkeensä eri vuosikymmeniltä. Näistä ei valitettavasti ole netissä kuvamateriaalia olemassa. For some reason I kept failing until now. This story is also about a woman and her possessions. Main character in this story is Huguette Clark, one of the richest people in the world, who died 2011 as a spinster, at the respectable age of 104.

Story of Huguette started in the year 1907, when she was born to senator William A. Clark and his second wife Anna. Was it the protective parents or just feature of her personality, Huguette turned out to be very private young woman. After her father passed away, she pulled out of the publicity completely, in her twenties, and last known photo of her was taken in the 30’s.

Mining and railroad millionaire William A. Clark left giant fortune to his family. That gave Huguette and her mother a possibility to generosity and charity and very private and protected life. Valuable properties with staff in Manhattan New York, Santa Barbara and Connecticut created an image of a mysterious and peculiar heiress. Only very few people met Huguette, but those given this privilege, got the impression that Huguette and her mother were both very pleasant, kind and giving people.

Most of Huguette Clark’s know history is her younger years. In 1928 she got married to her fathers business associates son, William MacDonald Gower. However the marriage ended just two years later without children. In 1929 there was Exhibition held in Washington DC, including seven paintings from Miss Clark. She was also musician. Over the years Huguette came to distrust people more. She thought they were only after her money. Paris-born Miss Clark even preferred to have conversations in french, then it was more likely that other people could not understand the conversation. Finally after her mothers death, she isolated herself pretty much completely from public.

Huguette was able to live peacefull life for decades. She lived permanently in her Manhattan appartment in New York, where she owned three apartments in one building. Two of them covered the whole floor. In other houses she didn’t even visit for decades, if at all, but staff always kept everything pristine. Medical evaluation published in 2012, stated that Huguette Clark moved permanently to the hospital, due to the recommendation of a doctor who saw her in her home in 1988. According to the doctor, her face was deformed by skin cancer and she was only wearing dirty bathrobe and was living only in one room of her huge apartment.

Even though Miss Clark passed away in 2011, people are still fighting over her vast inheritance. Only three weeks ago it was revealed in the court that when she was signing her last will, Huguette was mumbling incoherently and somebody had to hold the pen in her hand for signature. New will left everything to her layer, accountant and hospital, replacing the previous will which would have left inheritance to her private nurse and her own relatives. It has also been revealed that the hospital’s CEO even organized certain kind of company for Miss Clark to butter her off for donations. It is likely that there will be long battle of the Clark fortune.

Most interesting thing about Huguette Clark-story is that all of her large apartments and houses have been kept pristine all the way and they are full of valuable antique and art. But even more interesting to vintage enthusiasts is to know what kind of vintage clothing treasures Miss Clark has left behind from different decades. Unfortunately there is no photos of her wardrobe on the internet. However you can get a view on her Manhattan apartment here.

Nuori Huguette / Young Huguette
Pic.

Minun on pitänyt postata seuraava tarina jo huhtikuusta lähtien sillä Aprillipäivän tarinan innoittamana ajattelin kertoa teille toisenkin tarinan.
