Tuntuu ett\u00e4 tavara kirpputoreilla on huonontunut sek\u00e4 laadullisesti ett\u00e4 sorttimentillisesti. Laadullisesti niin ett\u00e4 ihmiset myyv\u00e4t hirve\u00e4n huonolaatuista tavaraa, eli suoraan sanoen ihan rikkin\u00e4ist\u00e4, pilallista tai loppuun k\u00e4ytetty\u00e4. Ja sorttimentillisesti niin ett\u00e4 ihmiset myyv\u00e4t sen tyyppist\u00e4 tavaraa joka ei ensink\u00e4\u00e4n edes kuuluisi kirpputoreille kuten tyhji\u00e4 maalipurkkeja (jotka muuten ovat ongelmaj\u00e4tett\u00e4)<\/strong><\/span> tai vanhoja kondomeja joiden toimivuus on arvan varassa.<\/p>\n

Kirpputorien hintataso? Noh, jokainen kirpputoreja kiert\u00e4v\u00e4 on varmaan huomannut mit\u00e4 sille on tapahtunut. Todellisia l\u00f6yt\u00f6j\u00e4 on en\u00e4\u00e4 todella vaikea tehd\u00e4. Ker\u00e4ilytavaran hinnat liikkuvat jo antiikkiliikkeiden tasolla ja sen tavallisen tavarankin hinta on sen verran korkea ett\u00e4 jopa hyv\u00e4ntekev\u00e4isyys-kaupoista kuten Uff tai Fida tekee jo melkeinp\u00e4 edullisempia l\u00f6yt\u00f6j\u00e4. Jokainen kirppis-aktiivi on n\u00e4hnyt n\u00e4m\u00e4 henkka-gina-zara-rievut joista pyydet\u00e4\u00e4n l\u00e4hes samaa hintaa kuin kaupassa uutena. Vaikka vaatteessa olisi viel\u00e4 kaupan tuotelaput kiinni ei se tarkoita ett\u00e4 siit\u00e4 joku suostuu maksamaan saman hinnan kuin se maksoi kaupassa. Puhumattakaan ett\u00e4 suostuisi maksamaan 50 sentti\u00e4 enemp\u00e4\u00e4 sitten kun se on roskiskamaa v\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n pesun tai parin rei\u00e4n vuoksi. Monessa blogissa on my\u00f6s kirjoitettu jo siit\u00e4 ett\u00e4 kirpputoreista on tullut viherpesua ja shoppaholistien omantunnon puhdistajia. K\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6m\u00e4t vaatteet vied\u00e4\u00e4n kirpputoreille jotta voidaan hyv\u00e4ll\u00e4 mielin ostaa samantien uutta kaapint\u00e4ytett\u00e4. Vaihtoehtoisesti sill\u00e4 voidaan perustella n\u00e4pp\u00e4r\u00e4sti uusi hankinta, “no jos t\u00e4\u00e4 ei sovi niin ainahan voin vied\u00e4 sen kirppikselle”. Niin, minulla on ollut kirpputoreilla k\u00e4ydess\u00e4ni l\u00e4hes paha olo. Katson sit\u00e4 tavaran m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4, mietin miksi l\u00e4hden useinmiten pois tyhjin k\u00e4sin ja tunnen kuvotusta siit\u00e4 miten ahneiksi ihmiset ovat tulleet. En ole sill\u00e4 tavalla v\u00e4kivaltainen ihminen, mutta joskus tulee sellainen olo ett\u00e4 tekisi mieli l\u00e4iski\u00e4 joitakin ihmisi\u00e4 ymp\u00e4ri korvia jos se takoisi hieman j\u00e4rke\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4h\u00e4n. Lately when visiting flea markets I have felt more and more anxiety and restlessness. It feels that goods in them have gone down both quality-wise and selection-wise. Quality-wise because people sell broken, ruined and beyond repair items. Selection-wise because people sell items that don’t even belong to flea markets, like old pain cans (which are toxic waste btw) and old condoms, on which you can’t conform in any way if they are any good at all.<\/p>\n

Would you agree that porcelain figurine without head is still in selling condition? Would you sell hair curler that has a pile of your (or someone elses) hair in it? Or wellies that have big dry lump of clay on the sole? Would you sell tin of old tobacco, 20 years old tampons or outdated remote controls without the actual device it belongs to? All examples are true items sold on flea markets.<\/p>\n

Pricerange on flea markets? Well, everyone visiting them frequently have probably noticed what has happened. True finds are hard to make anymore. Collectables prices have risen up to the level of antique shops. Though the price level of charisty shops have been talk of the town couple years now, even they are starting to look cheap compared to plain old flea markets.\u00a0 Another phenomenom that I can’t understand is the fact that apparently people expect to get high prices on broken stuff when it has the name of Arabia or Finel on it (these are very collected dishes and kitchen ware brands here in Finland. Arabia plates, cups, pottery etc, Finel enamel products like coffee pans and bowls). Do you think it is reasonable to ask 40\u20ac for Finel coffee pot that has bump on the bottom and has rust spot almost size of the palm of your hand, both on inside and outside?<\/p>\n

\n Worth buying for 1 \u20ac?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Ruined, wornout or brand new fashion clothes are completely another chapter.\u00a0 Everyone who actively rummages around flea markets have seen these poor quality mass-production clothes with almost as high prices than what they are new in shops. Even though some items have original price tags attached, it doesn’t mean you can get that same price of it. Not to mention that someone is actually willing to pay more than 50 cents of stuff that belongs to bin, when it’s been ruined in washes or has holes in it. In many blogs people have been talking about flea markets that have turned into “green wash”. Shoppaholists use them to quiet their conscience.\u00a0 Unworn clothes are easy to pass forward in flea markets so there is room for more new clothes. It’s easy way to justify new bu, “if this doesn’t fit I can always take it to flea market”. (Even I have done that, I admit!)<\/strong><\/span> I’m not saying it’s not allowed to shop for fun or to feel better, but if you have to justify your every purchase with the possibility of flea markets, you are going wrong way. This also goes for the thrifted shopping, not just new items.<\/p>\n

So, I have been literally feeling sick at flea markets. I have been looking the amount of stuff and thinking, why do most of the time I leave empty-handed and feel sick about peoples greed. I’m not a violent person, but somehow I feel like smacking someone a bit to get some sense inside their heads. I wasn’t planning on doing that for real, but here’s my Official Rules for Selling stuff on flea markets.<\/p>\n

Flea market rules<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Clean the item you’re selling.
\n2. If it’s broken, fix it if possible.
\n3. If it’s not possible to fix, evaluate the level of damage and consider selling only within reason.
\n4. Keep the price range reasonable.
\n5. Remember that even collectibles doesn’t always give you the highest price.
\n6. Ordinary goods don’t definitely give you the same price than bought new.
\n7. Flea market is not rubbish bin nor junk yard, put rubbish straight into bin.
\n8. Toxic waste is just toxic waste, even with a price tag on.
\n9. Flea market doesn’t buy you happy concious, think about your consuming habbits, all that useless stuff in the world doesn’t vanish by piling it up on fleamarkets.
\n10. If you have very valuable item, f. ex very rare antique clock, perhaps flea market is not the correct place to sell it after all.
