Ebayta surffaamalla is\u00e4nt\u00e4 selvitti ett\u00e4 Spike Jonesin levyst\u00e4 on maksettu noin 15 US dollaria ja Vera Lynnist\u00e4 noin 13. N\u00e4m\u00e4 levyt olivat siis edullisia l\u00f6yt\u00f6j\u00e4. Suomessa savikiekot maksavat kirppiksill\u00e4 yleens\u00e4 noin viitsen euroa. This time I will tell you about couple big black round flat things. Couple days ago me and my hubby found some old 78 vinyl records. These were in use before the LP-records and there was enough room only about one song because of the speed, 78 rounds per minute. Most of the records we found were swedish music, but what cauht my eye was Vera Lynn’s Auf wiedersehn sweetheart<\/a> from 1952. According to the story, Vera Lynn was on holiday in Switzerland and heard people singing the song and wanted to record it in english. Song is historical because it was the first recording by foreign artist to make number one on US Billboard.<\/p>\n Second record we chose was Donald Peers recording I told them all about you from 1949 (funny enough, there is a typo on the record label “I told hem all about you”)<\/strong><\/span>. On the reverse side you can find medley with songs<\/a> Blue skies, There’s a rainbow round my shoulders and If you were the only girl in the world. Blue skies is by Irvin Berlin, originally recorded in 1927. It is also historical song because it was played in first talking movie, The Jazz Singer, that also in 1927. Besides this Donald Peers version, you can also find versions by Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Willie Nelson etc.<\/p>\n Third record I chose because I like Spike Jones. His satirical arrangements of famous songs don’t go for all, but they make me smile. Songs are filled with odd throat noices, honking horns, blowing whistles, bangs and that sort of elements, even up to being annoying. On this recording there are Jones’ version of Cocktails for two<\/a> and Chloe<\/a>, which are amongst\u00a0Spike Jones and his City Slickers most popular recordings with All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth. These songs are recorded on the legendary His Masters Voice-lable in 1944.<\/p>\n This rasping fun cost us 2 \u20ac per record (about 2,5 USD or 1,6 Brittish Pounds)<\/strong><\/span>. My hubby checked on Ebay that this Spike Lee record has been sold with about 15 US dollars and Vera Lynn’s with about 13. So ours were obviously bargins. In Finland these old 78s are usually around 5 \u20ac. I still don’t have real gramophone (I’ve tried to turn my hubbys head on getting one)<\/strong><\/span> but my record player has speed dial for 78 rpm so I can listen these. Btw, we tested and all these records work.<\/p>\n
\nI haven’t shown you anything of my purchases lately. Mainly because I haven’t bought anything, which isn’t a bad thing actually. I’ve been very moderate on going to thrift shops and flea market. It is rather relaxing when I notice that I’m only able to look at things, not necessary buying. I warmly recommend!<\/p>\n
