IN ENGLISH<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Sometimes you might find polystyrene heads cheap from garage sales\/car boot sales or shops renovation\/clearance sales or similar. They are often quite bashed and dirty aswell, but very pretty. You can revamp old styrene head (or other object)<\/strong><\/span> quite easily by painting. Use liquid matte poster paints\/gouache paints. They have loads of pigments, they are watersolube and they maintain the matte surface of styrene. Dark paint doesn’t cover the holes but it helps to mask them so that surface looks more smooth. And of course it covers the stains. When paint is dry, styrene head can be used to display hats or hair fascinators or just as a decorative piece in your home.
\nEDIT <\/strong><\/span>– One of my finnish readers kindly reminded me that poster paint is watersolube even when it’s dry so it might rub of. So be careful if you want to use painted heads for light coloured hats. Then you might want to use acrylic paint instead and put up with the more shiny and “rubbery” surface. However, I am going to use these heads at my work, so I quite possibly have to poke pins on them which is difficult when acrylic paint creates hard surface on top of styrene.<\/p>\n

This is how it works:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Wipe off dust and loose dirt
\n2. Poor some poster paint on a plate
\n3. Use medium soft brush to apply the paint (foam brush or hard, rough burshes don’t work because you can’t get to the tiny holes in the styrene)<\/strong><\/span>
\n4. Be very thorough when applying the paint, however thin layer is enough so you won’t need much paint
\n5. Allow to dry and check the result
\n6. If any visible white gaps, do some patch painting (<\/strong><\/span>in <\/strong><\/span>almost any case you will have to repaint another or even third time)<\/strong><\/span>, to keep the result smooth you don’t have to repaint the hole head again, just the white spots
\n7. It takes a bout 1-2 hours for poster paint to dry, head will be ready for use after that<\/p>\n
