1. <\/strong><\/span>Nahka kannattaa leikata mieluummin veitsell\u00e4 tai py\u00f6r\u00f6leikkurilla kuin saksilla. Saksien leikkausj\u00e4lki tahtoo olla mutkittelevaa ja sill\u00e4 saa helposti aikaan palkeenkieli\u00e4 jotka erottuvat leikkuureunasta. Leikkaa tarkoitukseen tehdyll\u00e4 alustalla tai paksun pahvin p\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4. Leikkuun apuna kannattaa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 metallista viivotinta, sen avulla saa kaikkein suorimman leikkausj\u00e4ljen.<\/p>\n

2. <\/strong><\/span>Pehme\u00e4 nahka kannattaa tukea koska se menee yll\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4n helposti ryppyyn. Laita nahkakerrosten v\u00e4liin pari milli\u00e4 kapeammaksi leikattu j\u00e4m\u00e4kk\u00e4 joustamaton materiaali. Tarkoitukseen sopii joustamaton valmis nauha, esim kanttinauha tai ripsinauha tai joustamattomasta kankaasta langansuuntaan leikattu suikale kuten j\u00e4m\u00e4kk\u00e4 puuvilla (ei farkku, liian joustavaa)<\/strong><\/span>. 4.<\/strong><\/span> Erityisesti vy\u00f6nrei’\u00e4t vaativat vahvistusta joten laita tukikangasta ainakin niiden kohdalle. \nI have secretly been admiring Casey’s vintage bow belt<\/a>. To my huge amusement she made tutorial<\/a> for one. Tutorial is for faux leather. I made mine from soft leather and learned couple things while making. Here I’m posting couple tips for those who want to use real leather instead of faux. And if any of you have more tips for working with leather you can post them on the comments.<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong><\/span> Cut the leather with rotary cutter or knife. You get more even edge and avoid irregularities. Use cutting mat made for rotary cutter or thick cardboard. You can also use scissors but be prepared for uneven and curvy edge. You can also use metal ruler to assist the cutting to get the straightest possible edge.<\/p>\n

2. <\/strong><\/span>Soft leather should be supported with nonstretch interlining. You can use tapes made especially to support belts, petersham, thick twill tape or cut strips of thick nonstretch fabrics like coutil (jeans fabric is too stretchy)<\/strong><\/span>. Support must be 1-2 millimeters narrower than the belt. Place the supportive material exactly between the leather layers and stitch ontop.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong><\/span> Use leather needle and teflon foot on your machine. If you don’t have teflon foot and don’t wan’t to get one just for this project, you can get cheaper teflon stickers to be taped on the bottom of your ordinary foot.\u00a0 Try also thicker leather thread for more visible stitches.<\/p>\n

4. <\/strong><\/span>If you don’t want to use any supportive material for your belt, please do so atleast where you’re putting holes. Leather tends to stretch at use and holes will quite fast stretch too large if there is nothing to support them. When leather is very soft you can also use hole rivets like I did. Rivets are, of course, rather visible so if you don’t want to use them, you should use more stiff, thicker leather that doesn’t stretch so easily.<\/p>\n
