My recent visit to one of the local flea markets made me write one more. Allthough there will be experiences from other visits aswell. <\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">This list is in random order because all of these are equally annoying. Enjoy. <\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">First I<\/span> have to explain how most finnish flea markets work. They are called selfservice-flea markets. Place is full of tables of which you can rent one for week or two or as long as you like <span style=\"font-size:85%;\">(about 35 \u20ac\/week)<\/span>. You put prise tags on your items with description of the item and price you want for it. Then you take them to the flea market. They sell it for you, you just need to visit every now and then to organise your table and keep it tidy and maybe bring more things to sell. When your rental time is up, you collect the items that are left and they will give you the money you have earned from those which are sold. In most places you get the full price back and they don&#8217;t take any comission.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; font-weight: bold; color: rgb(102, 51, 0);\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">Most irritating issues in Finnish Flea markets<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1. Too narrow alleys<\/span><br \/>I do understand that the space must be optimised as profitable as possible. But gosh, no-one can stand that narrow alleys. In some places they are so narrow you can&#8217;t even go past someone standing in front. Try to enjoy your thrifting experience when there is a slowmoving 80-year old granny in front of you <span style=\"font-size:85%;\">(one step per one minute)<\/span> or mother with three kids and baby buggy. Or the worst: two mothers with two baby buggies. And just when you are about to turn around and return there is another slowmoving person behind you to prevent your escape.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">2. Mothers with baby buggies and noisy misbehaving kids<\/span><br \/>Yes I understand that mother can&#8217;t always do shopping without kids. However is it always necessary to pick up that flea market that has the most narrow alleys? And those kids. They run around the place like maniacs, touch every single item, move them from table to table, brake stuff and and bash them around. And make everything sticky with their messy little hands. This goes for any other ordinary shop aswell. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">3. Hennes &amp; Gina<\/span><br \/>This couple is the horror of the flea markets. Clothes from Hennes &amp; Mauritz and from Gina Tricot most likely go ruined rather quickly so they sell them on the flea markets with horrendous prises. If top from GinaTricot costs about 14\u20ac in the shop, I&#8217;m not going to pay 10 \u20ac for it in flea market. Or 7 \u20ac and probably not even 5 \u20ac if I tell you the truth. Besides it is rather difficult to find any other clothes from flea markets nowadays than those.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">4. Broken and dirty aka practically new<\/span><br \/>Do these people think I&#8217;m stupid or what? You can clearly see that the item is worn out, dirty and possibly even broken but they want unreasonable amounts of money of them and on the description it says &#8220;used only once&#8221;, &#8220;new&#8221; or &#8220;for handy DIY-man&#8221;. Apparently it is way too much to ask to even wash the clothes after use, before bringing them to the flea market. What does anyone do with a broken plates or cups? You can&#8217;t use them anyway. I suppose a handy DIY-person is able to mend broken wood chair, but what about broken record player or curtain with a hole in the middle? Not to mention a porcelain figurine without a head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">5. Retro &amp; vintage<\/span><br \/>Lets make it clear here and now. Vintage and retro are not the same thing. Usually retro doesn&#8217;t even mean old items. Retro is something <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">new<\/span> that is made according to old style. 70&#8217;s kids clothing are not retro, they are original 70&#8217;s clothing. New clothing made from 70&#8217;s style print fabric is retro. New radio made to look from 50&#8217;s is retro. Jewelry made according to 30&#8217;s style is retro. It means reproduction. <\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"> Everything old is not vintage. Knitted vest from 50&#8217;s which has shrunk in the washing machine <span style=\"font-size:85%;\">(=from adult size to kids size)<\/span> is not vintage, it is just old ruined knitted vest. Broken string or pears from 40&#8217;s is not vintge, it is just old broken string or pearls. Wornout shoulder pad-knit from 80&#8217;s is not vintage. Ruined shoes from 90&#8217;s are not vintage. 70&#8217;s stuff is on the borderline, I might even call that vintage. If this doesn&#8217;t go to your heads now, I might even have to kill someone. <span style=\"font-size:85%;\">(Just to make it clear, here in Finland it is sort of habbit to call 70&#8217;s items retro-stuff, which is soooooo incorrect<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">6. Opening the packages<\/span><br \/>You have some stuff you want to get rid of and decide to sell it on flea market. Let&#8217;s say you are selling computer keyboard and mouse with leads and instructions etc. You pack them carefully in their original package and tape it properly so nothing disappears from it. You write price tag with the information &#8220;Includes all original pieces and instructions. They work fine and are not broken in any way. DO NOT OPEN THE BOX!&#8221;. In two days you return to tidy up the table and the box you left there intact i now ripped from both ends. Would you rip packaging in ordinary shop? I don&#8217;t think so. Same rules apply in flea market even though all the stuff is second hand. You don&#8217;t rip them boxes open goddammit or you are going to buy the item! <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">7. Interesting materials<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"> Peoples poor ability to read never stops to amaze me. I wish I could get one euro coin every time when they lie on the price tag about the clothing material. Either deliberately or ignorance. Polyester and viscose become silk and acrylic becomes wool knit. Real materials are quite often possible to check from the washing instructions inside. In those cases when wash instructions are cut off <span style=\"font-size:85%;\">(what is point in this anyway?)<\/span> you can feel the material and you can learn to separeate different materials. Just a little tip: all shiny and slippery fabrics are not silk. Shine comes from the way it is woven: it iscalled satin bind. All knitted sweaters are not wool but quite often also wool mix or real 100% acryl.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">There probably<\/span> is more of these things, but it took me about a week to put together this post&#8230; On top of it all I heard today from news that this one particular local flea market is considering on putting entrance fee. Well, it&#8217;s their own funeral. Thank goodness it&#8217;s not the only flea market in this town.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\nvar uri = 'http:\/\/impfi.tradedoubler.com\/imp?type(iframe)pool(325920)a(1605992)' + new String (Math.random()).substring (2, 11);\ndocument.write('<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"'+uri +'\" width=\"468\" height=\"60\" frameborder=\"0\" border=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>');\n<\/script><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kirpputoreista on kirjoitettu paljon niin hyv\u00e4ss\u00e4 kuin pahassakin.
