Pahoittelut pitk\u00e4st\u00e4 poissaolosta blogissa. Kev\u00e4t ja alkukes\u00e4 on ollut taas todella kiireinen ja aina kun olen edes ehtinyt ajatella blogia, aika onkin riitt\u00e4nyt l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 vain ajatteluun, ei itse tekemiseen. Nyt on melkein ensimm\u00e4iset kaksi viikkoa kes\u00e4lomaa takana ja ensimm\u00e4ist\u00e4 kertaa on aikaa istahtaa koneen \u00e4\u00e4relle. Tuntuu aina ett\u00e4 kev\u00e4t ja kes\u00e4 on ihan liian lyhyt ja t\u00e4ynn\u00e4 kaikenlaista ohjelmaa. Sitten kun vasta oikein ehtii istua alas ja nauttia kes\u00e4st\u00e4, onkin jo syksyn tuoksu ilmassa ja puutarha lakaa lakastua ja pit\u00e4isi kiireen vilkkaa tarttua sadonkorjuuseen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaikenlaista on siis ehtinyt t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tapahtua. Kes\u00e4kuu meni melko tiiviisti t\u00f6iden parissa ja ty\u00f6paikalla tapahtuneet muutokset aiheuttivat stressi\u00e4. Ai niin, olihan siin\u00e4 kes\u00e4kuun alussa yksi kasviv\u00e4rj\u00e4yskurssikin. T\u00e4m\u00e4n lis\u00e4ksi nypl\u00e4yskurssiamme oli pyydetty j\u00e4rjest\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n kes\u00e4kuuksi nypl\u00e4ysaiheinen n\u00e4yttely paikalliseen pieneen n\u00e4yttelytilaan. Niinp\u00e4 kes\u00e4kuu menikin pitk\u00e4lti ty\u00f6stressist\u00e4 toipumiseen ja pitsin\u00e4yttelyn valvojana toimimiseen. Kes\u00e4kuun lopussa k\u00e4vin el\u00e4m\u00e4ni ensimm\u00e4ist\u00e4 kertaa Kiikoisten Purpureilla, Suomen toiseksi vanhimmassa kansanmusiikkitapahtumassa. Purpurit ovat koko kotikyl\u00e4mme yhteinen voimanponnistus, sill\u00e4 satakunta talkoolaista ahertaa tapahtuman eteen. Itse olin muiden kiireiden johdosta vain vieraana t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa koska halusin n\u00e4hd\u00e4 tapahtumassa esitetyn kuuluisan Kiikoisten purpuri-tanssin. Sivustakatsojana on pakko todeta ett\u00e4 osa tanssivuoroista, kuten juoksupolkka oli todella vauhdikkaita. Tanssijoilla on saanut olla hyv\u00e4 kunto. Kiikoisten purpuri oli v\u00e4h\u00e4ll\u00e4 kadota tyystin tietoisuudesta, mutta sen nuotit l\u00f6ytyiv\u00e4t kuolinpes\u00e4n huutokaupasta 60-luvun lopulla. Siit\u00e4 alkoi Kiikoisten Purpurien historia, kun nuottien l\u00f6ytymisest\u00e4 syntyi innostus her\u00e4tt\u00e4\u00e4 purpuritanssi taas henkiin. <\/p>\n\n\n

Purpuri<\/strong>
Purpurit ovat monivuoroisia tanssisikermi\u00e4 ja edustavat suomalaista kansantanssiperinnett\u00e4. Purpuri koostuu useista erilaisista tansseista joita kutsutaan vuoroiksi. Eri paikkakunnilla on ollut omanlaisensa purpurit. Purpureista on s\u00e4ilynyt melko v\u00e4h\u00e4n tietoa, mutta arvellaan ett\u00e4 ne olisivat tulleet osaksi suomalaista kansanperinnett\u00e4 joskus 1850-luvun tienoilla. Purpurissa voi olla vuoroja 5-12, mutta sen todellisen keston toistoineen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 osittain tanssijoiden lukum\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4, sill\u00e4 kaikki tanssijat eiv\u00e4t v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 osallistu tanssiin yht\u00e4 aikaa ja kukin vuoro kest\u00e4\u00e4 niin kauan kuin tanssijoita riitt\u00e4\u00e4 tai montako tanssiparia m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4t\u00e4\u00e4n kuhunkin vuoroon tanssimaan. Pisimmill\u00e4\u00e4n purpureita on saatettu esim h\u00e4iss\u00e4 tanssia useampi p\u00e4iv\u00e4, jolloin v\u00e4lill\u00e4 on seurusteltu, sy\u00f6ty ja nautittu muita virvokkeita. Purpuri alkaa alkumarssilla ja p\u00e4\u00e4ttyy loppumarssiin. Tyypillisi\u00e4 purpureissa tanssittuja tansseja ovat esim polkka, masurkka, katrillit, sottiisi, poloneesi ja valssi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kes\u00e4loman polkaisin k\u00e4yntiin rivakasti osallistumalla Muodin historian kiertokoulun j\u00e4rjest\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n Empire-p\u00e4iv\u00e4\u00e4n Hartolassa. En ehtinyt kiireisen kes\u00e4kuun johdosta tehd\u00e4 uutta empirepukua, sill\u00e4 se olisi vaatinut v\u00e4h\u00e4n enemm\u00e4n kaavoitusta ja perehtymist\u00e4. Sen sijaan minulta l\u00f6ytyi feresin kaavat ja ohjeet, jotka vaikuttivat melko helpoilta. Ompelin siis el\u00e4m\u00e4ni ensimm\u00e4isen feresin. Kaikki tarvikkeet l\u00f6ytyiv\u00e4t omista varastoista. Vihre\u00e4n silkkiessun tein purkamalla yhden pilalle hiutuneen silkkimekon ja ompelemalla sen paloista riitt\u00e4v\u00e4n suuren essuksi kelpaavan palan. Feresin kanssa k\u00e4ytett\u00e4v\u00e4n p\u00e4\u00e4hineen, sorokan tein samasta silkkimekosta. Feresist\u00e4 tuli muuten oikein hyv\u00e4, mutta helma saisi olla pari sentti\u00e4 lyhyempi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No sitten kun noita muita projekteja ei ilmeisesti ole riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti, ostin ensimm\u00e4isen kes\u00e4lomaviikon puhteiksi kaksi pakettiautollista p\u00e4reit\u00e4. Niist\u00e4 aion askarrella pihasaunaan silm\u00e4\u00e4 hivelev\u00e4mm\u00e4n p\u00e4\u00e4llysteen. Tuo oranssi maali kun ei ihan hirve\u00e4sti miellyt\u00e4 ja pist\u00e4\u00e4 pihapiiriss\u00e4 silm\u00e4\u00e4n kuin tikku pas….a. Siihen p\u00e4re-souviin tuhraantui kaksi p\u00e4iv\u00e4\u00e4. Tai oikeastaan 2,5 koska toinen pakullinen p\u00e4reit\u00e4 on viel\u00e4 pakussa. Pit\u00e4isi purkaa ne kunhan t\u00e4st\u00e4 ehtii. Ehk\u00e4 ensi viikolla. Sitten k\u00e4vin kaverin kanssa taas Avoimet puutarhat-tapahtumassa ihailemassa paikallisia upeita puutarhoja ja is\u00e4nn\u00e4n kanssa poikkesimme nopsaan Turussa Finnconissa. Alkuviikosta k\u00e4ytin yhden p\u00e4iv\u00e4n mattopesuun ja sen j\u00e4lkeen k\u00e4vin koti-kotona setvim\u00e4ss\u00e4 \u00e4itini j\u00e4\u00e4mist\u00f6\u00e4 josta vaan tuntuu tavaraa riitt\u00e4v\u00e4n loputtomiin. Huomenna hurautan Raumalle pitsiviikoille kun siell\u00e4 julkistetaan Rauman uusi kansallispuku. Ensi viikolla toivottavasti ehdin perehty\u00e4 taas remonttihommiin sill\u00e4 postissa saapuivat juuri tilaamani lasituslistat, jotta p\u00e4\u00e4sen korjaamaan kuistin ulkopokia. Kuistin vuorilaudat odottavat my\u00f6s raapimista ja maalausta. Olispa kahden kuukauden kes\u00e4loma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apologies for my long absence from the blog. Spring and early summer have been really busy again, and whenever I\u2019ve even had a moment to think about the blog, I\u2019ve only had enough time to think about it, not to actually to do anything. Now the first two weeks of my summer vacation are almost gone, and for the first time, I have time to sit down at the computer. It always feels like spring and summer are way too short and packed with all kinds of activities. Then, just when you finally have a chance to sit down and enjoy the summer, there\u2019s already a hint of Autumn in the air, the garden is starting to wither, and you have to hurry to get the harvest in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, all sorts of things have happened here. June was pretty busy with work, and changes at the office caused some stress. Oh yes, there was also one plant dyeing workshop too, in the beginning of June. On top of that, our bobbin lace-making class was asked to organize a bobbin lace exhibition for June at a small local exhibition space. So June was largely spent recovering from work-related stress and serving as a supervisor for the lace exhibition. At the end of June, I attended the Kiikoisten Purpurit for the first time, the Finland\u2019s second-oldest folk music festival. The Purpurit is a joint effort by our entire home village, as about a hundred volunteers work tirelessly to make the event happen. Due to other commitments, I was only a guest this time, as I wanted to see the famous Kiikoisten purpuri-dance performed at the event. As a spectator, I have to say that some of the dance routines, such as the running polka, were truly fast-paced. The dancers must have been in great shape. The Kiikoinen purpuri-dance had nearly disappeared from public consciousness altogether, but it’s sheet music was discovered at an estate auction in the late 1960s. That marked the beginning of the history of the Kiikoinen Purpurit, as the discovery of the sheet music sparked enthusiasm to revive the purpuri dance.<\/p>\n\n\n

Purpuri \/ Potpourri<\/strong>
Purpuri are multi-part dance sequences in the Finnish folk dance tradition. A purpuri consists of several different dances called \u201cturns.\u201d Different regions have had their own unique versions of purpuri. Relatively little information about purpuri-dances has survived, but it is believed that it became part of Finnish folk tradition sometime around the 1850’s. A purpuri may have 5\u201312 turns, but it’s actual duration, including repetitions, is partly determined by the number of dancers, since not all dancers necessarily participate at the same time, and each turn lasts as long as there are dancers left dancing or depending on how many dance couples are assigned to each turn. At it’s longest, the purpuri may have been danced for several days, for example at weddings, during which time people socialized, ate, and enjoyed other refreshments. The purpuri begins with an opening march and ends with a closing march. Typical dances performed during a purpuri include, for example polka, mazurka, quadrille, schottische, polonaise and the waltz.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

I kicked off my summer holiday with a bang by participating in Empire Day in Hartola, organized by the Muodin historian kiertokoulu (=Fashion History Traveling School<\/em> in engl.). Due to my busy June, I didn\u2019t have time to make a new Empire-style dress, as that would have required a bit more pattern-making and research. Instead, I found a pattern and instructions for a ferezi, which seemed fairly easy. So I sewed the first ferzi of my life. I found all the materials in my own stash. I made the green silk apron by taking apart a silk dress that had frayed beyond repair and sewing the pieces together to form a large enough piece to serve as an apron. I also made the sorokka, the headdress worn with the ferezi, from the same silk dress. The ferezi turned out really well, but the hem could be a couple of centimeters shorter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, since there apparently aren\u2019t enough of other projects, I bought two van-loads of shingles to keep me busy during the first week of my summer vacation. I plan to use them to build a more visually appealing cladding for the sauna. That orange paint isn\u2019t exactly to my taste, and it sticks out in the yard like a sore thumb. It took two days to get the shingles from the seller to our place. Or actually 2.5, since second load of shingles is still in the van. I should unpack them as soon as I have a chance. Maybe next week. Then I went with a friend to the Open Gardens event again to admire the gorgeous local gardens, and my husband and I made a quick stop at Finncon in Turku. Earlier this week, I spent a day washing rugs, and after that I went to my birth home to sort through my mother\u2019s belongings, there just seems to be an endless amount of stuff. Tomorrow I\u2019m heading to Rauma for Lace Week, where Rauma\u2019s new national costume will be unveiled. Next week, I hope I\u2019ll have time to get back to the renovation work, since the glazing trimmings I ordered just arrived in the post, so I can fix the lobby windows. The lobby siding also needs to be scraped and painted. If only I had a two-month summer vacation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ps. We installed swift nesting box couple years ago and now during past couple days we’ve seen twice a swift flying in it. So perhaps next summer we finally have tenants there. Yay!<\/p>\n\n\n

I have to say that the headdress, sorokka, isn’t really doing any favours to my face. It’s made according to the pattern, however it is so pope-like high, that I might have to alter it a bit, when I got time. Otherwise I am pretty happy, allthough I still don’t have the correct shirt, r\u00e4tsin\u00e4, to go with it. For now I have to use other options, like national costume shirts.
