Olen ihan vahingossa alkanut ker\u00e4ill\u00e4 vanhoja kudonnaisia. P\u00f6yt\u00e4liinoja, pyyhkeit\u00e4 ja sen sellaista. Nautin kovasti pellavaisten kudonnaisten tunnusta ja himme\u00e4st\u00e4 kiillosta. Viel\u00e4 jos kohdalle sattuu k\u00e4sin kehr\u00e4tyst\u00e4 langasta kudottu tekstiili, nappaan sellaisen takuuvarmasti kirppikselt\u00e4 matkaan. Pid\u00e4n kovasti my\u00f6s k\u00e4sin kirjailluista tekstiileist\u00e4. Varastoistani l\u00f6ytyy n\u00e4it\u00e4 melko paljon, joten otan t\u00e4h\u00e4n nyt vain muutamia suosikkejani. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pellava on jotenkin kiehtova materiaali. Koko se suuri vaiva ennenkuin kasvista saadaan kuitua jota voi kehr\u00e4t\u00e4 langaksi tekee siit\u00e4 jotenkin mystisen. En ole viel\u00e4 itse rohjennut kehr\u00e4t\u00e4 pellavaa, mutta ehk\u00e4 sekin aika viel\u00e4 koittaa. Minulla on jemmassa kehr\u00e4yksen opettajalta saatua pellavakuitua, ja mik\u00e4li oikein muistan, sit\u00e4 taitaa olla my\u00f6s jemmassa synnyinkotini aitassa. I have accidentally started collecting old woven items. Tablecloths, towels, and things like that. I really enjoy the texture and subtle sheen of linen fabrics. If I happen to come across a textile woven from hand-spun yarn, I’m sure to grab it from the flea market. I also really like hand-embroidered textiles. I have quite a few of these in my storage, so I’ll just share a few of my favorites here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flax is a fascinating material. All the effort that goes into extracting the fiber from the plant so that it can be spun into yarn, makes it seem somewhat mystical. I haven’t yet dared to spin flax myself, but perhaps the time will come. I have some flax fiber that I got from my spinning teacher, and if I remember correctly, there is also some in the barn at my childhood home. But without further ado, let’s take a look at these lovely textiles.<\/p>\n\n\n

Unused hand towel made of home-spun linen. If I remember correctly, this was found in one of the cupboards in Havum\u00e4ki, when we bought the house. Cloth is quite coarse and perhaps for that reason never been used.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n

Factory-woven damask table cloth has hand-ebroidered initials made with miniscule cross-stitch. Letters are very decorative, it’s difficult to figure out but perhaps it’s TW.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n

Isoissa tekstiileiss\u00e4 kuten p\u00f6yt\u00e4liinoissa ja lakanoissa k\u00e4sin kudotut kankaat erottaa helposti my\u00f6s siit\u00e4 ett\u00e4 tekstiilin keskell\u00e4 kulkee sauma. Hand-woven linen table cloth. Hand-woven textiles always have certain un-evennes and little bit of errors too. Large hand-woven textiles like table cloths and bedlinen can also be identified by the fact that they always have seam in the middle. Home weaving looms have quite narrow space for heddles. That meant that larger textiles always had to have the seam in the middle. <\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n

Fabric was bought from shop by meters and then towels were sewn at home and often also embroidered. Red was very popular colour for embroidery.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n
