En t\u00e4n\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n vuonna saanut aikaiseksi kylv\u00e4\u00e4 mit\u00e4\u00e4n. Siis en yht\u00e4\u00e4n mit\u00e4\u00e4n. Niinp\u00e4 joudumme tyytym\u00e4\u00e4n siihen mit\u00e4 luonto ja \u00e4idin puutarha meille tarjoaa. Hein\u00e4kuun alussa k\u00e4vin Avoimet Puutarhat-tapahtumassa ja innostuin sen verran ett\u00e4 sain aikaiseksi uuden pienen kukkapenkin. Vierailimme martta-kaverin kanssa kolmessa t\u00e4ysin erilaisessa puutarhassa ja saimme paljon hienoja ideoita. Lis\u00e4ksi vierailin omin p\u00e4in hein\u00e4kuun lopussa viel\u00e4 yhdess\u00e4 erilaisessa puutarhassa. N\u00e4ill\u00e4 vierailuilla p\u00e4\u00e4sin kiinni ajatukseen, ett\u00e4 koristekasveja ja sy\u00f6t\u00e4vi\u00e4 kasveja voi aivan hyvin laittaa rinnakkain eik\u00e4 keitti\u00f6puutarhan tarvitse olla niin tarkkaan rajattu alue kuin yleens\u00e4 ajatellaan. Niinp\u00e4 teinkin uuden istutusalueen uudenlaisella periaatteella. Rakensin kohopenkin marjapensaiden ja raparperien l\u00e4heisyyteen ja istutin siihen paitsi perennoja, my\u00f6s yrttej\u00e4 ja ukkomansikkaa. Tulevaisuudessa aion viel\u00e4 laajentaa penkki\u00e4 ja istuttaa syksymm\u00e4ll\u00e4 l\u00e4himaastoon 1-2 uutta marjapensasta. Ajatuksena on v\u00e4hent\u00e4\u00e4 puutarhassa nurmialueiden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 ja lis\u00e4t\u00e4 kohopenkkej\u00e4 joissa kasvaisi monipuolisesti erilaisia koriste- ja hy\u00f6tykasveja. Ajatus sy\u00f6t\u00e4v\u00e4st\u00e4 mets\u00e4puutarhasta on my\u00f6s alkanut kiinnostaa ja harkitsinkin jo eilen muutaman marjapensaan hankkimista mets\u00e4\u00e4n. Viime vuonna sato oli valtaisa. T\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna puissa ei ole raakileen raakiletta (tai no, veljeni raportoi yhdest\u00e4 raakileesta, sill\u00e4 ei juuri juhlita). My\u00f6sk\u00e4\u00e4n luumupuussa raakileita ei ollut yht\u00e4 paljon kuin edellisin\u00e4 vuosina, vaikka jonkinlainen sato sielt\u00e4 on sent\u00e4\u00e4n tulossa. Sama juttu my\u00f6s tyrneiss\u00e4. Kylm\u00e4 ja sateinen kev\u00e4t n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 nyt vaativan veronsa, mutta jotain satoa sent\u00e4\u00e4n saadaan. Sadon kypsymist\u00e4 tosin pit\u00e4\u00e4 viel\u00e4 hiukan odotella. Aroniassa ja viinimarjapensaissa marjoja riitt\u00e4\u00e4. Aronia ei kyll\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n ole makunsa puolesta niit\u00e4 lemppareita, mutta viinimarjojen kanssa sekoitettuna se jotenkin menettelee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Niinp\u00e4 t\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna tyydynkin vaivattomampiin luonnon antimiin. M\u00e4kimeirami varmistaa ett\u00e4 oreganoa meilt\u00e4 ei tule puuttumaan, nyt eik\u00e4 luultavasti tulevinakaan vuosina. Se nimitt\u00e4in levi\u00e4\u00e4 hurjasti. Piparminttua on my\u00f6s yli oman tarpeen. Talvehtineet salviat ovat j\u00e4\u00e4neet t\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna kitukasvuisiksi, mutta lipstikasta olen saanut t\u00e4ydennyst\u00e4 maustevarastoon. Lipstikka on mukava mauste jota k\u00e4yt\u00e4n l\u00e4hes kaikkiin liharuokiin, mutta erityisesti lihapulliin, lihakeittoon ja t\u00e4ytettyihin paprikoihin. Se antaa umamin makua my\u00f6s kasvisruokiin. Toivon my\u00f6s ett\u00e4 ehdin viel\u00e4 mustikkamets\u00e4\u00e4n ennen kuin marjat menev\u00e4t yli. N\u00e4ill\u00e4 helteill\u00e4 ja p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4isill\u00e4 ukkoskuuroilla marjat alkavat nopeasti pilaantua. Kuluneen viikon sateet ovat my\u00f6s alkaneet nostaa sieni\u00e4 esiin. Kantarelleja ainakin pit\u00e4isi l\u00f6yty\u00e4, ovathan ne yleens\u00e4 sadon ensimm\u00e4isten lajien joukossa. Nyt olisi my\u00f6s korkea aika levitt\u00e4\u00e4 syyslannokset. Nimest\u00e4\u00e4n huolimatta syyslannos olisi parasta antaa ennen kuin kasvit alkavat kellastua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lopuksi jaan t\u00e4ss\u00e4 hiukan erikoisemman limonadi-reseptin johon t\u00f6rm\u00e4sin instagramissa. V\u00e4itteiden mukaan m\u00e4nty-limonadi maistuu hiukan Sprite-limsalle. Alkuper\u00e4iseen reseptiin k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n amerikkalaisen strobusm\u00e4nnyn neulasia, mutta minulla ei t\u00e4h\u00e4n h\u00e4t\u00e4\u00e4n ollut saatavilla niit\u00e4, eik\u00e4 muitakaan m\u00e4nnyn neulasia. Muutkin havupuiden neulaset t\u00e4h\u00e4n ohjeen mukaan sopivat, joten kokeilin kuusenneulasilla. Niit\u00e4 t\u00e4ss\u00e4 Havum\u00e4ell\u00e4, nimens\u00e4 mukaisesti riitt\u00e4\u00e4. En p\u00e4\u00e4ssyt vertailemaan m\u00e4nnynneulasilla, joten en osaa sanoa onko maku niiss\u00e4 jotenkin omanlaisensa, mutta n\u00e4ist\u00e4 kuusen neulasista en nyt mit\u00e4\u00e4n kovin sprite-maista makua saanut. Mielest\u00e4ni juoma maistui l\u00e4hinn\u00e4, no kuuselle ja pihkalle, siis hyvin samanlaiselle kuin kuusenkerkk\u00e4siirappi, mutta maku oli ter\u00e4v\u00e4mpi. Resepti on hyvin yksinkertainen. Aion kokeilla my\u00f6hemmin my\u00f6s m\u00e4nnynneulasillani jos vain saan niit\u00e4 jossain vaiheessa k\u00e4siini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Neulaslimonadi<\/strong><br>reilu kourallinen tai pari neulasia (sit\u00e4 vahvempi maku, mit\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n)<br>3-5 tl sokeria<br>vett\u00e4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poista neulasista puumaiset osat ja huuhtele ne kylm\u00e4ll\u00e4 vedell\u00e4 p\u00f6lyst\u00e4 ja roskista pariin kertaan. Anna niiden kuivua tasolla, puhtaan pyyhkeen p\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 noin tunnin. Laita neulaset puhtaaseen lasipulloon, mieluiten patenttikorkilliseen, sill\u00e4 neulasissa on luonnonhiivoja, jotka pist\u00e4v\u00e4t juoman k\u00e4ym\u00e4\u00e4n. Lis\u00e4\u00e4 sokeria maun mukaan. Itse k\u00e4ytin ruskeaa kandisokeria. T\u00e4yt\u00e4 pullo kylm\u00e4ll\u00e4 vedell\u00e4. \u00c4l\u00e4 k\u00e4yt\u00e4 huuhteluun tai valmistukseen l\u00e4mmint\u00e4 tai kuumaa vett\u00e4 sill\u00e4 se tappaa neulasten luontaiset hiivat. Ravista jotta sokeri liukenee. J\u00e4t\u00e4 pullo tekeytym\u00e4\u00e4n valoisaan paikkaan, mutta ei suoraan auringonpaisteeseen. Anna tekeyty\u00e4 huoneen l\u00e4mm\u00f6ss\u00e4 noin 3-4 vuorokautta. Kun avaat pullon, \u00e4l\u00e4 ravista sill\u00e4 pulloon kehittyy painetta k\u00e4ymisen aikana. J\u00e4\u00e4hdyt\u00e4 j\u00e4\u00e4kaapissa tai j\u00e4\u00e4palojen avulla ennen nauttimista. Lis\u00e4\u00e4 halutessasi joukkoon puristettua sitruunamehua ja sitruunaviipaleita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HUOM!<\/strong> K\u00e4yt\u00e4 ainoastaan myrkytt\u00f6mi\u00e4 havupuita kuten tavallinen mets\u00e4kuusi ja -m\u00e4nty. \u00c4l\u00e4 k\u00e4yt\u00e4 myrkyllisi\u00e4 havupuihin kuuluvia lajeja kuten marjakuuset, sypressit, huonekuusi (huoneaukaria\/norfolkinaukaria) tai japaninpodokarpus (japanin marjakuusi). Once again, I didn&#8217;t get around to sowing anything. I mean, nothing at all. So we&#8217;ll have to make do with what nature&#8217;s larder and my mother&#8217;s garden have to offer. At the beginning of July, I went to the Open Gardens event and that got me so excited that I managed to make a new little flower bed. My friend and I visited three completely different gardens and got lots of great ideas. In addition, I visited another garden on my own at the end of July. These visits gave me the idea that ornamental plants and edible plants can be planted side by side and that a kitchen garden does not have to be as strictly defined an area as is usually thought. So I created a new planting area based on a new principle. I built a raised bed near the berry bushes and rhubarb and planted not only perennials but also herbs and wild strawberries. In the future, I plan to expand the bed and plant 1-2 new berry bushes in the nearby terrain in the fall. The idea is to reduce the amount of lawn area in the garden and increase the number of raised beds where a variety of ornamental and edible plants can grow. I am also intrigued by the idea of edible forest garden and yesterday I was considering of buying couple berry bushes for the forest. Hy\u00f6typuutarhassa voi kasvattaa my\u00f6s muulla tavalla hy\u00f6dyllisi\u00e4 kasveja esim. v\u00e4rj\u00e4yskasveja kuten korpipaatsamaa tai morsinkoa. \/<br><em>Kitchen garden or potager doesn&#8217;t only mean edible plants. You can grow other usefull plants too, for example plants for dyeing like alder buckthorn or woad. <\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>During my vacation, I also visited my mother&#8217;s garden, and unfortunately it seems that all (!) apple trees are taking a break this year. Last year&#8217;s harvest was huge. This year, there are no apples on the trees (well, my brother reported one small apple, but that&#8217;s not much to celebrate). There weren&#8217;t as many plums on the plum tree as in previous years either, although there will be some kind of harvest. The same goes for sea buckthorn. The cold and rainy spring seems to be taking its toll, but at least we will get some harvest. However, we still have to wait a little longer for the harvest to ripen. There are plenty of berries on the aronia and currant bushes. Aronia berries are not one of my favorites when it comes to taste, but mixed with currants, it is somehow acceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So this year, I will have to settle with the gifts of nature. Wild marjoram (oregano) ensures that we will not run out of oregano, now or probably in the coming years either. It spreads rapidly. We also have more peppermint than we need. The sage plants that survived over the winter have remained very small this year, but instead I have been able to replenish my spice cabinet with lovage. Lovage is a nice spice that I use in almost all meat dishes, but especially in meatballs, meat soup, and stuffed peppers. It also adds umami flavor to vegetarian dishes. I also hope to make it to the forest bo pick some blueberries before they go bad. With this heat and daily thunderstorms, the berries are starting to spoil quickly. Now is also the right time to spread the autumn fertilizer. According to some, pine soda tastes a bit like Sprite. The original recipe calls for American strobus pine needles (white pine), but I didn&#8217;t have any of those on hand, nor did I have any other pine needles. Other conifer needles are also suitable for this recipe, so I tried spruce needles. There are plenty of those here in Havum\u00e4ki. I couldn&#8217;t compare them with pine needles, so I can&#8217;t say if they have a unique flavor, but I didn&#8217;t get much of a Sprite-like taste from these spruce needles. In my opinion, the drink tasted mostly like spruce and sap, very similar to spruce syrup, but with a sharper flavor. The recipe is very simple. I plan to try it with pine needles later, if I can get my hands on some at some point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pine soda<\/strong><br>handfull or two of pine or spruce needles (the more needles, the stronger the flavour)<br>3-5 teaspoons of sugar<br>fresh water<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remove woody parts from the needles and rinse them well with cold water, couple times. Allow needles to dry on clean towel on the counter for about an hour. Put the needles in clean glass bottle with flip top lid. Pine and fir needles have natural yeasts, which cause the fermentation in the drink. <br>Add sugar to your taste, I used brown sugar (candi sugar). Fill bottle with cold water. Do not use warm or hot water to rinse the needles or on making the drink, it will kill the natural yeasts. Shake the bottle so that sugar solves. Leave the bottle on the table near the window, however not on direct sunlight. Allow to brew in room temperature for 3-4 days. When opening the bottle, do not shake, there will be pressure inside the bottle from the fermentation process. Cool in the fridge before drinking, or add ice cubes. If you like, you can add some squeezed lemon juice and lemon slices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NOTICE! <\/strong>Use only non-toxic conifer needles like ordinary forest pine and spruce.
