Martta ry<\/a> on ollut alkuvuodesta otsikoissa hiukan negatiivisessa valossa. Tai no eiv\u00e4t Martat mit\u00e4\u00e4n negatiivista ole tehneet. Ihmisten reaktiot Marttojen toimintaan vain ovat olleet negatiivisia. Marttojen vuosien 2025- ja -26 teemana on Muutos lautasella, joka liittyy uusiin ravitsemussuosituksiin sek\u00e4 ruokavalintoihin, jotka edist\u00e4v\u00e4t sek\u00e4 ihmisten ett\u00e4 maapallon hyvinvointia. Helmikuussa Marttaliitto ilmoitti osallistumisestaan kasvisruokasitoumukseen joka tarkoittaa ett\u00e4 kaikissa Marttaliiton omissa tapahtumissa tarjottaisiin ainoastaan kasvisruokaa vuosina 2025-26. Sitoumuksen tarkoituksena on pienent\u00e4\u00e4 toiminnan hiilijalanj\u00e4lke\u00e4 ja v\u00e4hent\u00e4\u00e4 muitakin ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6vaikutuksia. Samalla Martat haastoivat my\u00f6s muut organisaatiot mukaan sitoumukseen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

T\u00e4m\u00e4 kattoj\u00e4rjest\u00f6n ilmoitus kahden vuoden kasvisruokailusta oli joillekin liikaa ja sosiaalinen media kuohahti. Maalailtiin uhkakuvia siit\u00e4 ett\u00e4 kohta ei saa en\u00e4\u00e4 j\u00e4senet itse p\u00e4\u00e4tt\u00e4\u00e4 mit\u00e4 sy\u00f6v\u00e4t ja uhkailtiin j\u00e4rjest\u00f6st\u00e4 eroamisella. En tied\u00e4 tapahtuiko ilmoituksen j\u00e4lkeen notkahdus j\u00e4senluvuissa, mutta itse reagoin uutiseen varsin eri tavalla. Olen nimitt\u00e4in jo useamman vuoden ajan harkinnut liittymist\u00e4 Marttoihin ja t\u00e4m\u00e4 uutinen sai minut lopulta liikkeelle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martat<\/strong>
J\u00e4rjest\u00f6 perustettiin vuonna 1899 nimell\u00e4 Sivistyst\u00e4 kodeille. Keisari Nikolai II:n antama Helmikuun manifesti nostatti Suomessa itsen\u00e4isyysaatetta. Ylemm\u00e4n luokan kouluttautuneet naiset olivat sit\u00e4 mielt\u00e4 ett\u00e4 Suomen naisten tulisi yhdist\u00e4\u00e4 voimansa ja ett\u00e4 sivistyksen pit\u00e4isi l\u00e4hte\u00e4 kodeista. Kokouksien pit\u00e4minen oli kielletty\u00e4, joten ensimm\u00e4inen perustamista edelt\u00e4v\u00e4 kokous pidettiin salaa. Senaatti ei katsonut hyv\u00e4ll\u00e4 tavallisen kansan sivistysty\u00f6t\u00e4 joten yhdistyksen nimi piti muuttaa jo heti samana vuonna. Senaatti hyv\u00e4ksyi uuden yhdistyksen nimeksi Martat seuraavana vuonna. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Marttaj\u00e4rjest\u00f6 on 125 vuoden olemassa olonsa aikana ollut mukana monessa uudistuksessa. Martat ovat kouluttaneet, opastaneet, ohjanneet ja edist\u00e4neet suomalaisten ruoka- ja kotitaloustietoutta. Marttojen tavoitteena ja p\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n\u00e4 on ett\u00e4 hyv\u00e4 arki kuuluu kaikille. Aina se ei ole ollut itsest\u00e4\u00e4n selv\u00e4\u00e4 ett\u00e4 arki sujuu ja kodin askareet ovat toimivia ja el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4 helpottavia. Niinp\u00e4 Martat ovat aina olleet edell\u00e4k\u00e4vij\u00f6it\u00e4, antaneet ihmisille koulutusta el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4 helpottavista uusista keksinn\u00f6ist\u00e4 ja tiedottaneet uusista ty\u00f6tavoista ja menetelmist\u00e4. Siksip\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 Marttojen kasvisruoka-uutinen sopii aivan luontevasti j\u00e4rjest\u00f6n ideologiaan ja toimintaan. Maailma muuttuu ja my\u00f6s Marttojen pit\u00e4\u00e4 muuttua mukana ja uudistaa toimintaansa jatkuvasti maailman muutoksessa. T\u00e4m\u00e4 uutinen oli se liikkeelle paneva voima, jonka johdosta lopulta liityin Marttoihin, ensin l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 v\u00e4h\u00e4n piruuttani, mutta lopulta ihan oikeasti kiinnostuneena. Etsin Marttojen verkkosivuilta paikallisen yhdistyksen, johon tuttuni sattumalta kuuluu. Ensin juttelin h\u00e4nen kanssaan j\u00e4rjest\u00f6toiminnasta ja lopulta k\u00e4vin tutustumassa toimintaan k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 osallistumalla yhdistyksen j\u00e4rjest\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n kahvitasting-iltaan. T\u00e4m\u00e4n j\u00e4lkeen liityin j\u00e4seneksi Marttojen verkkosivun kautta. Ensi vuosi onkin Tyrv\u00e4\u00e4n Marttojen 40. juhlavuosi. Odotan innolla ett\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4sen syksyll\u00e4 suunnittelemaan tulevan juhlavuoden ohjelmaa. Ideoita on paljon ja uusien j\u00e4senten saamiseksikin on teht\u00e4v\u00e4 t\u00f6it\u00e4 ett\u00e4 yhdistys voi jatkaa seuraavatkin 40 vuotta. <\/p>\n\n\n

Minulla on hopeinen Martta-rintakoru, josta on valitettavasti neula poikki. Marttaliiton s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6jen mukaisesti, Marttojen tunnuksia saavat k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 vain j\u00e4senet, joten min\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n en ole voinut t\u00e4t\u00e4 rintaneulaa aiemmin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4. I have a silver Martha brooch, which unfortunately has broken pin. According to the rules of Martha Organization, only members are allowed to use their logo and official clothing, so I haven’t been able to use it before. Tyrv\u00e4\u00e4n Marttojen j\u00e4rjest\u00e4m\u00e4 kahvitasting oli mielenkiintoinen katsaus kahvin todelliseen olemukseen ja antoi paljon uutta tietoa kahveista, niiden viljelyst\u00e4 ja mausta. Opin ett\u00e4 kahvin marja, jonka sis\u00e4ll\u00e4 itse papu kasvaa, on my\u00f6s sy\u00f6t\u00e4v\u00e4, mutta p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa sit\u00e4 k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n lannoitteena. Pirkanmaan paahtimo<\/a> oli tuonut meille maisteltavaksi kuutta maultaan erilaista kahvilaatua ja opasti miten oikeaoppinen kahvin maistelu suoritetaan. Lopuksi saimme kunnon kupilliset kahvia juotavaksi korvapuustien kera. Valitettavasti edellisviikolla sairastamani flunssa oli vienyt makuaistini melko hyvin kadoksiin, mutta sain silti jonkinmoisen k\u00e4sityksen eroavaisuuksista. Kes\u00e4kuun Tyrv\u00e4\u00e4n martat pit\u00e4v\u00e4t lomaa tapaamisista, mutta loppuvuoden marttailtoihin on suunniteltu ainakin elokuvailtaa, sokkoretke\u00e4 ja havukranssikurssia. Hauskoja iltoja siis tiedossa. <\/p>\n\n\n

Martha Association<\/a> has been in the headlines in the early part of the year in a somewhat negative light. Well, Martha’s haven’t done anything negative. People’s reactions to Martha’s activities have just been negative. The Martha’s theme for 2025-26 is Change on a Plate, which is about new nutritional recommendations and food choices that contribute to the well-being of both people and the planet. In February, Martha Organization announced it’s participation in the Vegetarian Commitment, which means that in all Martha association’s events they serve only vegetarian food in 2025-26. The commitment aims to reduce the carbon footprint and other environmental impacts of association’s activities . At the same time, the Marthas also challenged other organisations to join the commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The umbrella organisation’s announcement of two years of vegetarianism was too much for some and social media went into overdrive. Assumptions were made that soon members would no longer be allowed to decide what they eat and members made threats to leave the organisation due to the outrage. I don’t know if there was a dip in memberships after the announcement, but my reaction to the news was quite different. After all, I have been considering joining Martha’s for several years now and this news finally pushed me forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martha<\/strong>
Organization was founded in 1899 under the name Education to the homes. The February Manifest by emperor Nikolai II was raising independence ethos in Finland. Upper class educated women had the idea that Finnish women should unite their abilities and that the education should start at home. Holding meetings was not allowed at that time, so the first meeting before founding the association was held in secret. Senate was not happy about the educating the ordinary people, so the name of the association needed to change already during the same year. Senate accepted the new name Martha for the association the next year. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

During it’s 125 years of existence, Marthas’ have been involved in many reforms. The Marthas’ have educated, instructed, guided and promoted food and household knowledge among Finns. The aim and goal of the Marthas’ is that a good everyday life belongs to everyone. It has not always been self-evident that everyday life runs smoothly and that household chores are functional and make life easier. So the Marthas have always been pioneers, educating people about new inventions that make life easier and informing them about new ways of working and new methods. That is why this Martha’s Vegetarian commitment fits in so naturally with the organisation’s ideology and activities. The world is changing, and Marthas must also change with it and constantly renew itself in line with the changing world. This news was the driving force that finally led me to join Martha, at first a little out of spite, but eventually with real interest. I looked on the Martha’s website for a local association to which my acquaintance happened to belong. First I talked to her about the association’s activities, and then I went to a coffee-tasting evening organised by the association to find out more about activities in practice. I then became a member via the Martha’s website. Next year will be the 40th anniversary year of the Tyrv\u00e4\u00e4 Marthas. I am looking forward to planning the programme for the coming year in the autumn. There are lots of ideas and we need to work on getting new members so that the association can continue for the next 40 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In case you are interested in Martha association, you can get to know on what they do on the webpage. There is a list of associations, where you can find your local one and by buy the membership from the online shop. Membership includes Martat-magazine, which publishes four times a year. Local associations organize Martha- evenings, trips, courses and other activities. There is also nation-wide events available for all. Webpage also holds a vast archive of information on many issues like recipes, gardening, laundry etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coffee tasting, arranged by Tyrv\u00e4\u00e4n Martat association, was very interesting little peek into the true essence of coffee and gave me lot of new information about the coffee, the taste and the farming. I learned that the coffee berry, which holds the beans inside, is also edible, but it’s mostly used as a fertilizer. Pirkanmaa Roastery <\/a>brought us six different varieties of coffee to taste. They also showed us how to do the tasting properly. Finally we got proper cups of coffee to drink with our cinnamon buns. Unfortunately the previous week’s flu took most of my tasting abilities away, but I did manage to get some idea about how different the taste can be. During June Tyrv\u00e4\u00e4 Martha are having a holiday from the meetings, but there is atleast movie night, mystery trip and pine wreath workshop planned. Fun evenings ahead!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cupping, the coffee tasting, helps to identify the differences in coffee flavours. Each cup has equal amount of freshly ground coffee and hot water. Before adding the water, you can smell the ground coffee to compare the aroma. After adding the water you can again smell and also taste. Here coffees are arranged from right to left, mild to strong. Pirkanmaa Roastery mainly uses coffee just from one producer per coffee quality. This way each coffee can be roasted to their most optimal roast, to get the best flavours out of them.
