Ostin kes\u00e4ll\u00e4 tuollaisen talonpoikaisen kulmakaapin. Se on seisonut koko kes\u00e4n ja syksyn kuistilla, odottamassa p\u00e4\u00e4sy\u00e4 sis\u00e4tiloihin. Olen yritt\u00e4nyt mietti\u00e4 mit\u00e4 tekisin sille. Kaapin edellisen omistajan is\u00e4 on aikoinaan aloittanut kunnostamaan kaappia ja poistanut sen etuosista kaikki maalit. Homma on kuitenkin tyss\u00e4nnyt siihen ja sis\u00e4osa on j\u00e4\u00e4nyt k\u00e4sittelem\u00e4tt\u00e4. Sis\u00e4osa on nimitt\u00e4in maalattu joskus sinisell\u00e4 Miranolilla. Sis\u00e4osa on aika karsea, mutta en ole ehtinyt alkaa poistaa maalia. On itseasiassa minun onneni ett\u00e4 sis\u00e4osa on sininen. Kaapista oli nimitt\u00e4in toinenkin kiinnostunut ostaja, mutta h\u00e4n menetti kiinnostuksen kun n\u00e4ki kaapin sis\u00e4osan. Sis\u00e4lle on my\u00f6s joku kiinnitt\u00e4nyt pienet muovikoukut. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

P\u00e4\u00e4tin ett\u00e4 pikafiksauksena liimaan puikkoliimalla sis\u00e4seiniin palat tapettia. Ylin tapetti on talossa k\u00e4ytetyn vanhan tapetin j\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4, joka l\u00f6ytyi yl\u00e4kerran puretusta komerosta. Toinen on hopeidenkiillotushuoneeseen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4ni repro-tapetin j\u00e4m\u00e4paloja ja kolmas on tapettin\u00e4ytekirjasta. Puikkoliima on riitt\u00e4v\u00e4n pit\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 kiinnitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n tapetit, mutta tarvittaessa melko helppo poistaa. Hyllypitsit tulivat kaapin mukana, ja saavat toistaiseksi j\u00e4\u00e4d\u00e4 paikoilleen. Kutsun kaappia is\u00e4nn\u00e4nkaapiksi koska minusta se vaikuttaa hirmu painavalta ollakseen rengin mukanaan talosta toiseen kuljettama kaappi. Sein\u00e4\u00e4n kiinnitykseenkin kaappi on vaatinut v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n nelj\u00e4 naulaa takaosan re’ist\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4tellen. Joka tapauksessa is\u00e4nn\u00e4n k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n se meill\u00e4kin p\u00e4\u00e4tyy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaapin takana on kirjoitusta, mutta valitettavasti kunnostajan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4 maalinpoistoaine on vienyt osan tekstist\u00e4 menness\u00e4\u00e4n. Arvelen ett\u00e4 vuosiluku voisi olla 1898, mutta vaikea sanoa varmaksi. Jos osaat tulkita takaosan tekstin niin kerro ihmeess\u00e4! Kunnostaja on maalannut kaapin etuosaan vuoden 1817, alkuper\u00e4inen maalaus se ei siis ole. Kaappi toki voi olla vanhempikin kuin takana oleva vuosiluku. Pid\u00e4n kovasti kaapin muotokielest\u00e4. Vaikea sanoa mille kaappi on alunperin n\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt kun maalinpoistoaine on h\u00e4vitt\u00e4nyt kaikki j\u00e4ljet alkuper\u00e4isest\u00e4 v\u00e4rist\u00e4 ja mahdollisista koristeluista. Alkuper\u00e4inen v\u00e4ri on ehk\u00e4 ollut samaa murrettua vihre\u00e4\u00e4 kuin kaapin takaosassa. Avain on tallessa ja lukko toimii, tosin haustan takaperoisesti. Oikealle k\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4en se lukittuu ja vasemmalle k\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4en avautuu. Nostimme sen nyt v\u00e4liaikaisesti tuohon lipaston p\u00e4\u00e4lle. Voi olla ett\u00e4 paikka tai k\u00e4ytt\u00f6tarkoitus vaihtuu kun makuuhuone valmistuu mutta se j\u00e4\u00e4 n\u00e4ht\u00e4v\u00e4ksi.<\/p>\n\n\n

In the summer I bought this peasant style corner cabinet. It’s been waiting in the lobby whole summer and autumn to get in. I have tried to decide what to do with it. Father of the previous owner has started to fix it and removed all the paint from the front of the cabinet. However the work was stopped there and insides were still unfinished. Someone had painted the insides with bright blue paint. It looks pretty horrible, but I didn’t really have time to start removing the paint. Actually it was my good luck that the insides are blue. There was also another buyer interested on the cabinet, but when they saw the insides, they lost their interest. There is also plastic hooks under one shelf. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a quick fix I decided to use glue stick to refurbish the insides with wallpapers. Wallpaper on top shelf is old leftover, which has been used in our house. We found the left over roll in the upstairs closet, which we tore down recently. Second wallpaper is leftover from our silver polishing room renovation, historical repro print. Third one is a sample from my free-of-charge wallpaper sample book. Glue stick is sturdy enough to keep wallpapers in place, but easy enough to remove when needed. Crochet shelf laces came with the cabinet and for now they can stay. I call this cabinet a masters cabinet. Masters of the peasant houses used to have these kind of cabinets to keep their valuables in. Hired farm hands also had similar small cabinets, which they took with them when they moved from farm to farm, however this cabinet feels too heavy and big for farm hand to carry from house to house. Atleast this cabinet has four holes on the back for nailing it to the wall. What ever the origins, now it will be in the use of the master of the house. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind the cabinet there are traces of handwriting. Unfortunately the person who removed the paint, spilled the paint stripper to the back too and that has partially removed the writings, so it’s difficult to read. I assume the year might be 1898, but I can’t be sure. On the front of the cabinet year 1817 has been painted, however this was the doing of the renovator, not original painting. Cabinet can be older that what the dage is, but it’s difficult to know. I do like the design though. It is difficult to say what it might have looked originally, or how it was decorated. Original colour might have been the earthy green, which can be seen at the backside. Lock still works and it has the key, allthough it kind of works backwards. When turning to right it locks and when turning to left, it opens. We placed this temporarily ontop of the drawer in the corner. Perhaps we find a better place and another use later, but we will see. <\/p>\n\n\n
