Muotiin n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t nykyisin tulleen kuusen kaulurit, er\u00e4\u00e4nlaiset korit tai renkaat kuusen juurella. Kauluri viimeistelee ilmeen ja sen sis\u00e4\u00e4n voi piilottaa ruman kuusenjalan. N\u00e4it\u00e4 on n\u00e4kynyt erityisen paljon ulkomaisilla insta-tileill\u00e4, mutta olen muutamia bongannut my\u00f6s jo suomalaisista kaupoistakin. Niinp\u00e4 ajattelin nyt tehd\u00e4 sellaisen itse kierr\u00e4tysmateriaalista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christmas tree collars, a type of basket or wide ring that hides the base of the tree, seem to have become fashionable recently. They are nifty way of finishing the look and hiding the ugly tree stand. These have been particularly popular on foreign Instagram accounts, but I have already spotted a few in Finnish stores. So, I decided to make one myself from recycled materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You need<\/strong>
– Cardboard boxes
– Colorful or patterned cardboard, wallpaper, wrapping paper, etc.
(- decorations, craft paint, stickers, etc.)
– scissors, paper cutter or circle cutter and mat
– glue
– duct tape
– a couple of pieces of wide decorative ribbon<\/p>\n\n\n

1. Pura pahvilaatikko ja leikkaa pahvista puolisuunnikas joka on noin 20 cm leve\u00e4 alareunasta, yl\u00e4reunasta noin 16-17 cm ja noin 27 cm korkea. Tarkista sopiva korkeus kuusenjalkasi mukaan. Riippuen siit\u00e4 miten suuren kaulurin haluat tai tarvitset, leikkaa pahvista 7-13 samanlaista puolisuunnikasta. 7 puolisuunnikkaan kaulurin keh\u00e4 on jo noin 1,4 metri\u00e4, eli melko suuri. 13 puolisuunnikkaan keh\u00e4 on jo noin 2,5 metri\u00e4. Jos haluat kaulurin yl\u00e4reunassa hieman l\u00e4hemm\u00e4s kuusen runkoa, tee puolisuunnikkaista kapeampia yl\u00e4reunastaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Dismantle the cardboard box and cut a trapezoid. It should be about 20 cm wide at the bottom, about 16-17 cm wide at the top, and about 27 cm high. Check the actual hight from your tree stand. Depending on how big you want or need the collar to be, cut 7-13 similar trapezoids out of the cardboard. A collar made from 7 trapezoids will have a circumference of about 1.4 meters, which is quite large. A collar made from 13 trapezoids will have a circumference of about 2.5 meters.<\/em> If you want the collar top to go little bit closer to the tree, cut trapezoids narrower on the top. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2. Kun olet leikannut kaikki puolisuunnikkaat, leikkaa papereista pahveille p\u00e4\u00e4lliset. Leikkaa jokaisesta paperista muutamia senttej\u00e4 isompi sek\u00e4 leveydest\u00e4 ett\u00e4 pituudesta. Ylim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4iset varat k\u00e4\u00e4nnet\u00e4\u00e4n nurjalle. Jos leikkaat p\u00e4\u00e4lliset kartongista, leikkaa t\u00e4sm\u00e4lleen samankokoiset puolisuunnikkaat kuin pahvistakin, sill\u00e4 kartongin reunoja ei voi k\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4\u00e4.     2. Once you have cut out all the trapezoids, cut the paper covers for the cardboard. Cut each piece of paper a few centimeters larger than the cardboard in both width and length. The excess will be folded over to the wrong side. If you are cutting the decorative covers from cardboard, cut trapezoids that are exactly the same size as the cardboard; it’s not possible to fold the edges on cardboard. Glue the covers to each piece of cardboard. I used EriKeeper, which is all purpose PVA-glue. Use clips if needed, but remember that very strong clips (like the ones in the photo) might make markings on the trapezoids. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Kartonkip\u00e4\u00e4llisten reunat voit halutessasi siisti\u00e4 washiteipill\u00e4. Se tekee kauluksesta tukevamman ja est\u00e4\u00e4 kartonkien repsahtamisen reunoista k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4.     3. Cut extra pieces of from each corner of the coverpapers. Fold the edges inward, and glue them in place. If you want, you can trim the edges of the cardboard covers with washi tape. This will make the collar more sturdy and prevent the cardboard from fraying at the edges during use. Use good quality washi tape with strong glue. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

    4. Kun kaikki pahvit on p\u00e4\u00e4llystetty, ne kiinnitet\u00e4\u00e4n toisiinsa pitkilt\u00e4 sivuilta ilmastointiteipill\u00e4. Voit kokeilla muitakin teippej\u00e4, mutta ilmastointiteippi on kest\u00e4vint\u00e4 ja joustavaa ja kest\u00e4\u00e4 parhaiten s\u00e4ilytyksen sesonkien v\u00e4liss\u00e4. Leikkaa l\u00e4hes pahvin pitk\u00e4n sivun pituinen p\u00e4tk\u00e4 teippi\u00e4 ja kiinnit\u00e4 se pahvipalan nurjalle puolelle. Teippaa t\u00e4m\u00e4 pahvi seuraavan pahvin pitk\u00e4\u00e4n sivuun, mutta nosta pahvi samalla pieneen kulmaan, jotta se luontevasti asettuu kaareen, eik\u00e4 litte\u00e4ksi alustaa vasten.     4. Once all the cardboard pieces have been covered, attach them to each other along the long sides with duct tape. You can try other tapes too, but duct tape is most durable and flexible and it will best handle the long storage periods between seasons. Cut a piece of tape almost as long as the long side of the cardboard and attach it to the back of the cardboard piece. Tape this cardboard to the long side of the next piece of cardboard, but lift the cardboard at a slight angle so that it naturally curves and does not lie flat against the base. Repeat the same for all the cardboard pieces until you have a continuous long strip of cardboard. However, do not tape them into a ring. Leave the outer pieces of the strip open to make it easier to store and use. If the ugly backside shows too much in your opinion in the use, you can also decorate the back with prettier paper. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Kun kauluri on asetettu paikoilleen kuusenjalan ymp\u00e4ri, nauhat solmitaan rusetille. Rusetit viimeistelev\u00e4t ilmeen, pit\u00e4v\u00e4t kaulurin muodossaan ja helpottavat sen asettamista paikoilleen. Vaihtoehtoisesti voi liimata koko kaulurin p\u00e4\u00e4llyspuolelle pitk\u00e4t koristenauhat jotka kiert\u00e4v\u00e4t koko kaulurin ymp\u00e4ri ja p\u00e4\u00e4ttyv\u00e4t vapaasti roikkuviin p\u00e4ihin jotka solmitaan ruseteille. Lopuksi kaulurin voi halutessaan koristella mieleisell\u00e4\u00e4n tavalla. Siihen voi kiinnitt\u00e4\u00e4 erilaisia valmiita koristeita, vaikkapa rusetteja tai kiiltokuvia, maalata kuvioita askartelumaaleilla tai vaikka liimata valmiita koristetarroja, esim t\u00e4hti\u00e4 tai syd\u00e4mi\u00e4. Halusin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 t\u00e4h\u00e4n kauluriin punaista leve\u00e4\u00e4 nauhaa, mutta minulla ei ollut sellaista varastossa, joten kiinnitin v\u00e4liaikaisen nauhan kauluriin teipill\u00e4. Vaihdan sen punaiseen kunhan l\u00f6yd\u00e4n sopivaa nauhaa jostakin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    5. Glue decorative ribbon to the open ends on the wrong side, two on each end. Once the collar is in place around the tree stand, tie the ribbons into bows. The bows add the finishing touch, keep the collar in shape, and make it easier to put in place. Alternatively, you can glue long decorative ribbons to the top of the collar, wrapping them around the entire collar and ending in loose ends that are tied into bows. Finally, you can decorate the collar however you like. You can attach various ready-made decorations, such as bows or shiny pictures, paint patterns with craft paints, or even glue on ready-made decorative stickers, such as stars or hearts. I wanted to use wide red ribbon for this collar, but I didn’t have it in stock, so I made temporary ribbon and attached it with tape. I will replace it eventually with red ribbon, when I’m able to find suitable. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n
