L\u00f6ysin jokin aika sitten kirppikselt\u00e4 ihanan paksua vohvelikangasta ja n\u00e4in heti sieluni silmin sen Havum\u00e4ess\u00e4 keitti\u00f6pyyhkein\u00e4. Halusin kokeilla niihin lapsuudesta tuttua vohvelikirjontaa, helppoa ja nopeaa kirjontaa paksulla langalla, geometrisin kuvioin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tavalliset kirjontalangat ovat t\u00e4h\u00e4n kankaaseen turhan ohuilta, joten laitoin langan kaksinkertaisena. Kolmin, tai nelinkertainenkin olisi varmasti sopinut, mutta ep\u00e4ilin riitt\u00e4\u00e4k\u00f6 lanka siihen. Paksuhko villalanka olisi ollut hyv\u00e4 vaihtoehto, mutta olisi hankaloittanut pyyhkeiden pesua. Regular embroidery threads are too thin for this material, so I doubled the thread. It probably would have worked also as tripled or quadrupled. But I was doubting if there was enough yarn for that. Thick wool yarn would have been a good alternative, but would have made it difficult to wash the towels. The pattern I chose was a kind of winding pyramid and the stitch is a kind of cross between traditional waffle stitches and my own application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A while ago I found a lovely thick waffle cloth at a flea market and immediately saw it in my soul’s eye in Havum\u00e4ki as kitchen towels. I wanted to try the waffle embroidery, which I knew from childhood, a quick and easy embroidery with thick thread and geometric patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The end result is a bit different from what I had planned, I should have left two square spaces for each line of embroidery rather than one, but it turned out pretty fun anyway. I only had time to embroider one towel this time, but there’s enough fabric for a total of four. The beige waffle fabric goes well with the decorative linen towels I found at the flea market. However, I don’t think I’d really dare to use vintage linen in the kitchen, as our kitchen towels tend to get stained faster than the speed of sound in the grease and soot that comes off the bottom of the pans.<\/p>\n\n\n
