In Finland we had something called Matto-Mikko, which probably would be something like Carpet-Carl in English. Manufacturer was expecting it to receive huge popularity due to the wall-to-wall carpets becoming increasingly more common. It didn’t really turn out that well, but today those carpetcarls are popular among thrifters and retro-lovers. And believe it or not, they still make these (not the actual Finnish brand though, but similar)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I found one of these in local swap meet recently. This is more advance than the Finnish equivalent. It has more rolling brushes and four different settings. And to my huge surprise the manufacturer Leifheit Regulus still makes these. I payed only 15\u20ac, which is approximately one third of the price of the new item. Allthough the price seem to vary a lot depending on the source. In Finland these are not sold to my knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our hoover situation at the moment is that we are considering buying new one. Just before we moved to Pinehill, we bought Dyson bagless hoover second hand. We thought Dyson would be good, because for decades it’s been THE hoover in there. This wasn’t cheap even second hand and in use it has turned out completely impractical and very noisy. Hoovering is not on the top of my favourite things to do anyway, but with this hoover it’s even less so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most important thing with hoovers is the suction power. People say that with bagless hoovers the suction power doesn’t vanish over time. Well, it may be so, but in this case the suction power wasn’t particularly good in the first place. Hoovering carpets with this is pure torture, and even from the bare floor it has trouble of getting larger sand grains. Dust container is awkward to empty. There is filter in the middle of the container, which makes the actual container only about 3 cm wide, cylinder shaped. It’s more of a rule that you need stick to assist with emptying it. Cat hair gets stuck in there pretty easily. Also the lid of the container is a bit awkward and gets in the way when emptying it. Handle of the hoover usually can be hung on the body of the hoover. In this case it’s designed so that the whole hose and handle are balanced in an angle, not straight upright. This makes hoover take awfull lot of space. And the noise. People have said Dysons are loud. I didn’t believe it. Now I do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We already know which hoover we are getting next (Numatic Henry), but I still wanted to get also the carpet sweeper. Getting the hoover seems always a bit tiresome job. So I thought that if we have carpet sweeper, it might be more handy to just sweep accidental crumbs quickly from the carpet. It is not a complete replacement for hoover, but works fine on acute cases when you don’t have time for hoovering. In the test use it worked great. <\/p>\n\n\n
