Minun on jo jonkin aikaa tehnyt mieli ostaa poljettava ompelukone, mutta kohdalle ei ole osunut sopivaa. Kes\u00e4ll\u00e4 t\u00f6rm\u00e4ttiin kuitenkin er\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 rompetorilla t\u00e4llaiseen kammesta veivattavaan yksil\u00f6\u00f6n. Kes\u00e4ll\u00e4 en ehtinyt konetta tarkemmin tutkia, joten se on seissyt eteisportaikossa siit\u00e4 l\u00e4htien. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ompelukone on toimiva, mutta en saanut ainakaan n\u00e4in nopeasti testattuna langankireytt\u00e4 s\u00e4\u00e4detty\u00e4 sopivaksi. Joko se tekee alapuolelle lankalenkkej\u00e4 tai jos ei tee, yl\u00e4lanka katkeilee. Se saattaa toki johtua my\u00f6s rikkin\u00e4isest\u00e4 neulasta tai liian vanhasta puuvillalangasta. Liikkuvat osat vaatinevat my\u00f6s \u00f6ljy\u00e4 ja ehk\u00e4 putsaustakin. Koneessa on tuollainen veneen muotoinen sukkula ja pitk\u00e4 puola. Sukkula liikkuu koneen alla pituussuunnassa edestakaisin, toisin kuin py\u00f6re\u00e4 puolakotelo joka py\u00f6rii paikallaan. Mutta eik\u00f6h\u00e4n t\u00e4st\u00e4kin joskus viel\u00e4 ihan toimiva peli saada kunhan ehdimme sit\u00e4 paremmin huoltaa. <\/p>\n\n\n

I’ve been wanting to buy a pedal sewing machine for a while now, but I haven’t found one suitable one. This summer, however, I came across hand cranked one at a swap meet. During the summer I didn’t have time to examine the machine in detail, so it has been sitting on the lobby staircase ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I decided to have a closer look at it. The machine is heavily worn on the paint surface, but not very rusty. There are only faint shadows left of the former gold highlights and the maker’s name. After a long oogle, we were able to track down the machine and establish that it originated from the company of Carl Fredrik Juselius in Turku. Juselius’ mother Caroline started making shirts in the 1860’s and in the 1870’s his son Carl took over the company. Juselius also made ties and umbrellas and imported Singer sewing machines and perfumes. Quite a diverse company. In the 1920’s, Juselius’ factories also produced walking sticks and braces, and in the 1930s, corsets and bras for women. Joutsen and Jusella were the company’s trademarks. In the early 1960s the company went bankrupt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Machine does work, but I couldn’t get the thread tension right, at least not with such short investigation. It either makes loops on the below or if it doesn’t do that, it will snap the upper thread. All though that might be cause by broken needle or too old cotton thread. The moving parts also need oiling and maybe a cleaning. The machine has a boat-shaped shuttle and a long bobbin. The shuttle moves back and forth under the machine, unlike the round bobbin case which rotates in place. But I’m pretty sure we can make it working properly, when we got time to do better maintenance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kotelon sis\u00e4puolella on pieni valmistajan liimaama tarkistuslappunen sek\u00e4 numero 3825. Ehk\u00e4 maahantuojan lis\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4 sarjanumero. Muinoin oli tapana merkit\u00e4 jokainen valmistettu tuote sarjanumerolla. It used to be a habbit to add serial number to each made product.
