En ollut koskaan ennen n\u00e4hnyt sellaista, mutta arvasin kyll\u00e4 heti mihin tarkoitukseen se on. Koska harrastan satunnaisesti my\u00f6s vanhoilla mustekynill\u00e4 kirjoittamista, t\u00e4m\u00e4 vintage-kotitoimiston tarvekalu osui juuri kuin nen\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4h\u00e4n. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

T\u00e4m\u00e4 on nimitt\u00e4in mustekyn\u00e4n pyyhin. Melko yksinkertainen idea, tiivis nippu pieni\u00e4 paperipaloja pahvisen renkulan sis\u00e4ll\u00e4 asetetaan lasiseen telineeseen. Lasin paino pit\u00e4\u00e4 koko h\u00f6k\u00f6tyksen paikallaan. Puhdistuksen tarpeessa oleva mustekyn\u00e4 yksinkertaisesti vain t\u00f6k\u00e4t\u00e4\u00e4n paperinippuun, joka imee ylim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4isen musteen itseens\u00e4. Vanhoissa k\u00e4ytt\u00f6esineiss\u00e4 on ihaninta se ett\u00e4 ne tehtiin my\u00f6s kauniiksi, ei pelk\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4n k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6llisiksi. Katsokaa vaikka tuon lasitelineen upeita koristekuvioita, tai tuon yli satavuotiaan paperiveitsen hienoja koristeleikkauksia. Paperiveitsi on ollut minulla jo useamman vuosikymmenen ja on my\u00f6s k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4 viikottain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00f6ytyy minulta muutakin erikoisempaa kirjoitusv\u00e4linett\u00e4, nimitt\u00e4in rihvelikyn\u00e4 jolla kirjoitettiin rihvelitauluun kansakoulussa 1900-luvun alussa. Rihvelitaulukin minulta l\u00f6ytyy niin voin harjoitella kaunokirjoitusta kuten koululaiset sata vuotta sitten tekiv\u00e4t. Kertoman mukaan rihvelikyn\u00e4n j\u00e4lki pyyhittiin pois taulusta aidolla j\u00e4niksenk\u00e4p\u00e4l\u00e4ll\u00e4. Tokko tuossa per\u00e4\u00e4? <\/p>\n\n\n

While cleaning my office desk (which actually is vanity, on loan from mum), I realised that I haven’t show you one of my last Summers thrift finds. I had never seen one before, but I guessed straight away what it was for. Because I also dabble in writing with old ink pens, this vintage home office accessory is just what I needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is, in fact, ink pen cleaner. Quite simple idea really, tight pack of small paper pieces inside cardboard edge, placed in glass stand. Weight of the glass keeps the whole thing in place. Ink pen, needing some cleaning is just simply poked into the stack of paper pieces, which sucks the excess ink on itself. Most wonderfull thing about old things is that they were made also pretty, not just practical. Just look at that decorative pattern around the glass stand, or the fantastic carvings on this over 100 years old paper knife. I’ve had the paper knife for several decades now and I also use it pretty much weekly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also have other odd writing equipment. By which I mean slate pencil, which was used for writing to the slate boards in schools in early 1900’s. I also have slate board, so that I can practise handwriting like school kids in Finland used to 100 years ago. Story goes that slate pencil was wiped off the slate board with real rabbits foot. Whether that is true, I’m not sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paperi oli kallista arvotavaraa 1900-luvun taitteessa. Koululaiset k\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t edullisempia rihvelitauluja kaunokirjoitusharjoituksiin. Rihvelikyn\u00e4ll\u00e4 lopputulos oli siistimp\u00e4\u00e4 kuin liidulla ja se voitiin helposti pyyhki\u00e4 pois ja kirjoittaa uudelleen. \/
Paper was expensive luxury item in the turn on 1800’s-1900’s. School kids use cheaper slate boards and pencils to practice handwriting.
