Vaihdoin taas ruokailuhuoneen j\u00e4rjestyst\u00e4. En ole ollut t\u00e4ysin tyytyv\u00e4inen siihen. Remontin edistyess\u00e4 ruokailuhuoneen nurkkaan on tulossa perinteinen ruokakomero, mutta sit\u00e4 odotellessa t\u00e4ytyi keksi\u00e4 jotakin muuta, sill\u00e4 keitti\u00f6ss\u00e4 ei ole riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti kaappitilaa kuiville ruokatarpeille. On ruokailuhuoneessa ollut kyll\u00e4 muitakin ongelmia. Kissat tahtoivat hyppi\u00e4 kahvitiskille ja sen yl\u00e4puolella olevalle hyllylle ja siit\u00e4 t\u00f6ni\u00e4 sein\u00e4kelloa joka aiheutti kellon pys\u00e4htymisen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siirsin siis keskell\u00e4 sein\u00e4\u00e4 olleen lasivitriinin nurkkaan ja oven vieress\u00e4 olleen kahvitiskin samalle seinustalle toiseen nurkkaan. Sein\u00e4kello siirrettiin niiden v\u00e4liin. Kahvitiskin yl\u00e4puolelle asennettiin hyllyt ruokatarpeille. Isommat ruokakorit siirrettiin keitti\u00f6st\u00e4 s\u00e4hk\u00f6patterin edest\u00e4 kahvitiskin alahyllylle, jotta patterista tuleva l\u00e4mmin ilma ei pilaannuta elintarvikkeita. Vastaavasti kahvitiskin hyllyll\u00e4 olleet keittokirjat siirtyiv\u00e4t keitti\u00f6\u00f6n ruokakorien tilalle. Sattumoisin l\u00f6ysimme my\u00f6s eilen kirppikselt\u00e4 pienen retrohenkisen radion, jollaista olen etsinyt keitti\u00f6\u00f6n jo jonkin aikaa. Se mahtui juuri sopivasti tyhj\u00e4ksi j\u00e4\u00e4neeseen sivup\u00f6yd\u00e4n koloseen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Puiset Ikean laatikot ovat olleet n\u00e4pp\u00e4ri\u00e4 niin hyllyin\u00e4 kuin laatikoinakin. Puuvalmiit koottavat laatikot voi k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 sellaisenaan tai pintak\u00e4sitell\u00e4 ne oman maun mukaan. Vessassa minulla on niit\u00e4 ruskealla kalustevahalla s\u00e4vytettyn\u00e4. N\u00e4ihin ruokatarpeille varattuihin halusin maalata 1-2 sivua liitutaulumaalilla jotta niihin voisi kirjoittaa mit\u00e4 ne sis\u00e4lt\u00e4v\u00e4t. Puupinnan saatan ehk\u00e4 harmaannuttaa etikalla, jotta ne n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isiv\u00e4t enemm\u00e4n vanhoilta vihanneslaatikoilta. Se on kuitenkin vasta kes\u00e4n hommia, sit\u00e4 kun ei katkun vuoksi viitsi tehd\u00e4 sis\u00e4tiloissa. Harmaannuttaminen (ja maalaaminenkin) on tietysti helpointa tehd\u00e4 ennen laatikon kokoamista. Sit\u00e4 pit\u00e4\u00e4 harkita siin\u00e4 vaiheessa kun hankin laatikoita lis\u00e4\u00e4. Olen ajatellut k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 niit\u00e4 my\u00f6hemmin my\u00f6s ruokakomerossa jotta ruokatarpeita on helppo siirrell\u00e4 tarvittaessa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muutama huomio liitutaulumaalista<\/strong>
Sekoita purkki huolellisesti pohjia my\u00f6den. Pelkk\u00e4 purkin ravistaminen ei riit\u00e4, sill\u00e4 liitutaulumaalin hienojakoiset osaset tahtovat upota ja j\u00e4m\u00e4ht\u00e4\u00e4 pohjalle. Maalauksen lopputulos on sit\u00e4 parempi, mit\u00e4 sile\u00e4mpi maalattava pinta on. Puunsyiden ep\u00e4tasaisen pinta vaikuttaa my\u00f6s siihen miten sujuva liidulla on pintaan kirjoittaa. Hio pinta tarvittaessa hienolla hiekkapaperilla ennen maalausta. Min\u00e4 en hionut ja sen huomaa. Toisaalta rustiikkinen ulkon\u00e4k\u00f6 on ihan kivakin jos ei haittaa ett\u00e4 teksti ei ole niin s\u00e4ntillist\u00e4. <\/p>\n\n\n

I swapped the order of furniture in the dining room again. I haven’t really been completely happy with it. When renovation moves on, there will be traditional larder in the corner, but while waiting for that I had to figure out how to store our dry goods. There just isn’t enough space in the kitchen cupboards for dry food. Well, there has been other problems in the dining room too. Cats love to jump on our coffee counter and shelf which was ontop of it. From there they pushed the clock and that caused it to stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I moved the glass cabinet from the middle to the corner and the coffee counter I moved from door wall to the same wall than glass cabinet, but opposite corner. Wall clock we put in the middle. Over the coffee counter hubby installed shelves for food goods. Bigger baskets were moved from kitchen to the coffee counter shelves. They were infront of the radiator which caused them to expire faster. Cookbooks were moved from coffee counter to kitchen side table. Coincidentally, yesterday we also found small retro-style radion from flea market. We have been looking for one for the kitchen quite some time now. It fitted just perfectly in the little shelf on the side table. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wooden Ikea boxes have been handy as shelves and storage boxes. Boxes are not finished so you can either use then as they are or finish them what ever coating you prefer. I have couple of them in the toilet, finished with brown furniture wax. Boxes reserved for food products I wanted to paint with chalkboard paint. Just on one or two sides. That way I could write on them what they contain. I might age the wood with vinegar later. That is a job for summer, I don’t really want to do it inside because it creates lot of smells. Aging the wood (and painting too) would be easiest to do before putting the boxes together. I have to look into it when I get more boxes at some point. I was planning on using them inside the larder as well, so that it’s easier to move things around if needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Observations on chalkboard paint<\/strong>
Mix the tin carefully all the way to the bottom. Shaking is not enough, because particles in the paint will sink and stick to the bottom. Finished result of painting is the better, the smoother the surfaces is, Woodgrain will create uneven surface and affects on how easy it is to write on it. Sand the surface with fine sanding paper if needed. I didn’t and it shows. On the other hand rustic look is quite nice, if it doesn’t matter that you are not able to get very even writing on it.<\/p>\n\n\n
