V\u00e4h\u00e4n reilu kuusi vuotta sitten totesimme, ett\u00e4 kaupunkiasuminen on liian kallista ja stressaavaa. P\u00e4\u00e4timme muuttaa maalle. Paikkakunta valikoitui sattuman oikusta, kun satuin huomaamaan asunnonvuokra-ilmoituksen lehdess\u00e4. Sen j\u00e4lkeen on tapahtunut paljon. Olen vaihtanut ty\u00f6paikkaa kahdesti, is\u00e4nt\u00e4 on saanut t\u00f6it\u00e4, olen muuttanut ty\u00f6huoneeni kolme kertaa, ollaan ostettu talo ja mit\u00e4 n\u00e4it\u00e4 nyt on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olen tiennyt teini-ik\u00e4isest\u00e4 asti, ett\u00e4 joskus palaan maalle. Siin\u00e4 meni v\u00e4h\u00e4n reilu 25 vuotta. Ennen oman talon ostoa asuimme nelj\u00e4 vuotta maalaiskyl\u00e4n keskustassa rivitalossa. Se oli ihan kiva kevyt laskeutuminen maalaisel\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n. Omassa talossa asuminen on kuitenkin parasta, l\u00e4himm\u00e4t naapurit eiv\u00e4t ole sein\u00e4n takana. Meill\u00e4 on muutenkin k\u00e4ynyt superhyv\u00e4 onni naapureiden suhteen. Tontin ymp\u00e4rill\u00e4 on enimm\u00e4kseen peltoa ja yhdell\u00e4 sivulla maatila, jota pit\u00e4\u00e4 nuorehko pariskunta lapsineen. Loput naapurit ovat p\u00e4\u00e4osin kes\u00e4asukkaita. Kaikkia naapureita emme tunne hirve\u00e4n hyvin mutta kaikki vaikuttavat oikein mukavilta. Aiemmissa kodeissa n\u00e4in ei aina ole ollut ja niiss\u00e4 naapurit ovat olleet viel\u00e4 paljon l\u00e4hemp\u00e4n\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maalla asuminen voi olla raskasta, varsinkin jos asuu kaukana kaupoista, pitk\u00e4n ja kapean hiekkatien takana. Meit\u00e4 kuitenkin lyk\u00e4sti. Talo on asfaltoidun tien vieress\u00e4, tai oikeastaan melkein kiinni siin\u00e4 ja vain yhden kilometrin sis\u00e4ll\u00e4 meilt\u00e4 on kaksikin ruokakauppaa (niist\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyy tosin vain perustarpeet) sek\u00e4 huoltoasema ravintoloineen. Oma ty\u00f6paikkani on noin kilometrin p\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4 kotoa ja is\u00e4nn\u00e4n ty\u00f6p\u00e4iv\u00e4 alkaa aamuisin kotipihalta. Toki isompiin kaupunkeihin on meilt\u00e4 matkaa v\u00e4hint\u00e4\u00e4n 25 km, l\u00e4hti sitten mihin tahansa suuntaan, mutta valtatie kulkee l\u00e4hes tuosta talon nurkalta ja liikenteen rauhoittava humina kuuluu jos avaa ikkunan. Taloon sis\u00e4lle ei liikenteen melu tai muukaan kuulu. Hirsitalo on kyll\u00e4 siit\u00e4 mukava ett\u00e4 \u00e4\u00e4nieristys on kunnossa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meill\u00e4 on iso, hehtaarin kokoinen tontti. Siit\u00e4 suurin osa on onneksi sekamets\u00e4\u00e4 jossa todistettavasti kasvaa ainakin herkkutatteja ja kantarelleja. Varsinainen piha-alue on siten melko pieni, ja nurmea on aika v\u00e4h\u00e4n. Is\u00e4nt\u00e4 kyll\u00e4kin k\u00e4rtt\u00e4\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4lt\u00e4 ajettavaa ruohonleikkuria, jotta nurmikon leikkuu olisi helpompaa. Olen sen helpotuksen h\u00e4nelle luvannut, ehk\u00e4 jo ensi kes\u00e4ksi. Puutarhahommia saa tehd\u00e4 sen verran kuin huvittaa. Tai ei huvita, en ota paineita. Kukkapenkkej\u00e4 ei oikeastaan ollut kuin yksi, mutta olen alkanut laajentaa sit\u00e4 ja rakentaa uusia penkkej\u00e4 sinne t\u00e4nne, jaksamisen mukaan. Ja tietysti keitti\u00f6puutarhamme on alullaan. Haluan istuttaa sinne p\u00e4\u00e4ryn\u00e4puun ja kirsikan. Ehk\u00e4 my\u00f6s muutamia mustaherukkapensaita ja se operaatio minulla onkin jo ty\u00f6n alla. Kerron siit\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4 joku toinen kerta kun n\u00e4en onko suunnitelmani onnistunut. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No ent\u00e4s talvella sitten? Uskokaa tai \u00e4lk\u00e4\u00e4, tykk\u00e4\u00e4n tehd\u00e4 lumit\u00f6it\u00e4. Se on yksi niit\u00e4 harvoja kotihommia joista oikeasti tykk\u00e4\u00e4n. Tosin my\u00f6nnett\u00e4k\u00f6\u00f6n ett\u00e4 viime talvena niit\u00e4 sai kyll\u00e4 tehd\u00e4 ihan kyll\u00e4stymiseen asti. Lunta oli niin valtavasti ja sit\u00e4 tuli joka p\u00e4iv\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 aloin jo mietti\u00e4 mihin ihmeeseen se kaikki laitetaan, kun piha-alue on tosiaan melko pieni. Pihatiemme on puolikaaren muotoinen ja siin\u00e4 on kaksi sis\u00e4\u00e4ntuloa joten siin\u00e4 on my\u00f6skin aura-auton j\u00e4ljilt\u00e4 kaksin verroin siivottavaa. Kolattavaa siis riitt\u00e4\u00e4, vaikka pihatie ei olekaan kovin pitk\u00e4, yhteens\u00e4 ehk\u00e4 noin nelj\u00e4 henkil\u00f6auton mittaa. Pihamme on tiet\u00e4 alempana joten sis\u00e4\u00e4najot on pidett\u00e4v\u00e4 tarkkaan puhtaana lumesta, muutoin niihin muodostuu ik\u00e4v\u00e4 j\u00e4inen harjanne josta on vaikea p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4 yli tielle. Viime talvena jouduimme pyyt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n naapurin apuun traktorillaan. T\u00e4n\u00e4 talvena olemme saaneet sen itse pidetty\u00e4 paremmin siistin\u00e4, tosin luntakin on tullut v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n. Ja luonnollisesti pit\u00e4\u00e4 kolata polut my\u00f6s liiteriin, varastoon ja roska-astioille. Lis\u00e4ksi olemme ottaneet tavaksi kolata naapuruston postilaatikoiden edustan, ne kun sijaitsevat pihatiemme v\u00e4litt\u00f6m\u00e4ss\u00e4 l\u00e4heisyydess\u00e4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 toki huonojakin puolia. S\u00e4hk\u00f6katkoja tulee useammin kuin kaupungissa ja ne voivat kest\u00e4\u00e4 pitk\u00e4\u00e4nkin. Nettikin toisinaan p\u00e4tkii, joskin meid\u00e4n wifi tuntuu yleens\u00e4 ottaen toimivan hirmu hyvin. Paikallisliikenne on l\u00e4hes olematon ja pitk\u00e4n matkan bussit kulkevat noin kerran p\u00e4iv\u00e4ss\u00e4 Tampereelle ja Poriin. Turha kuvitella p\u00e4rj\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4ns\u00e4 t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 ilman omaa autoa vaikka asuisi linjuri-pys\u00e4kin vieress\u00e4 (l\u00e4hin on meilt\u00e4 50 metri\u00e4). Terveyspalvelut ovat kaukana, samoin el\u00e4inl\u00e4\u00e4k\u00e4rit. Pankkipalvelujakaan ei paikkakunnalta en\u00e4\u00e4 oikein saa. Paikallinen pankkikonttori on auki kerran viikossa lo 10-13. Mit\u00e4\u00e4n isompia tai erikoisempia kauppoja ei l\u00f6ydy. Kyl\u00e4n keskustassa ei ole oikeastaan en\u00e4\u00e4 mit\u00e4\u00e4n muuta kuin kirkko ja vanhusten palvelutalo. T\u00e4\u00e4lt\u00e4 kuitenkin l\u00f6ytyy kauppojen lis\u00e4ksi apteekki, kirppis, tori, postipalvelut, koulu ja kirjasto. Kyl\u00e4ss\u00e4 on aktiivinen kyl\u00e4yhdistys joka j\u00e4rjest\u00e4\u00e4 kes\u00e4isin paljon pieni\u00e4 tapahtumia ja luentoja ja Sastamalan opiston kursseja on ahkerasti my\u00f6s t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kyl\u00e4ll\u00e4. Paikkakunnalla on my\u00f6s oma yhteisk\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4 oleva rantasauna uimarantoineen ja useita aktiivisia yritt\u00e4ji\u00e4 jotka ovat mukana paikallisissa tapahtumissa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maalaisel\u00e4m\u00e4 ei sovi kaikille. Me ollaan is\u00e4nn\u00e4n kanssa kotihiiri\u00e4 ja viihdymme kotona omissa oloissamme. Kotona riitt\u00e4\u00e4 aina jotakin puuhaa, etenkin vanhassa remontoitavassa talossa ja pihapiirin villit el\u00e4imet antavat iloa p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4in. Toki sit\u00e4 aina v\u00e4lill\u00e4 kaipaa ihmisten ilmoille, kaupunkiin ostoksille, elokuviin, museoihin ja muihin kissanristi\u00e4isiin, mutta kaikkein mieluiten kuitenkin viihdyn kotona. Korona-aika n\u00e4ytti meille ett\u00e4 pakon sanelema erakkoel\u00e4m\u00e4 ei ollut meille ylivoimaisen raskasta, kuten ehk\u00e4 joillekin. Olimme jo ennen sit\u00e4 viett\u00e4neet paljon aikaa kotona. Pakko my\u00f6nt\u00e4\u00e4 ett\u00e4 toimivilla nettiyhteyksill\u00e4 saattaa olla my\u00f6s osuutta asiaan. Toisaalta voi olla ett\u00e4 jos kotitiemme olisi viisi kilometri\u00e4 yksityist\u00e4 mets\u00e4tiet\u00e4 jonka aurauksesta ja kunnossapidosta olisimme itse vastuussa ja l\u00e4hin kauppa ja naapuri olisivat 10 km p\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4, tilanne ja fiilis olisi aivan toinen. Talon erinomainen sijainti on luultavasti yksi avain viihtyvyyteen. Ja n\u00e4k\u00f6et\u00e4isyydell\u00e4 olevat naapurit luovat pieneen asuinyhteis\u00f6\u00f6mme turvallisuuden tunnetta. Olemme siis sattuman oikusta saaneet sek\u00e4 maalla ett\u00e4 kaupungissa asumisen parhaat puolet yhdell\u00e4 iskulla. Itse tajusin t\u00e4m\u00e4n vasta sen j\u00e4lkeen kun olimme muuttaneet. En ollut \u00e4lynnyt edes mietti\u00e4 asiaa ennen sit\u00e4. Oli miten oli, tunnen ett\u00e4 olen vihdoin saapunut kotiin. Tunne jota en kerrostaloasunnoissa oikein ikin\u00e4 saanut. <\/p>\n\n\n

Just over six years ago we were struck by the fact that living in town was too expensive and stressfull. We decided to move to countryside. Location was selected randomly when I saw rental apartment notice in a newspaper. After that a lot has happened. I have changed jobs twice, hubby has started new job too, I have moved my work studio three times, we have bought a house and all sorts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since teenager I have know that I will return to live in the countryside. It took me just over 25 years. Before our own house we lived in semi-detached bungalow for four years. It was kind of light adjustment period to living in the country. However living in our own house is the best, no neighbours behind the wall. We are very lucky with our neighbours at the moment anyway. Most of our yard is surrounded by fields and on one side there is a farmer family with kids. Rest of the neighbours houses are mostly only summer villas. We don’t know all of them that well, however they all seem very nice. It hasn’t been the case in all of our previous homes. And then we always had neighbours on the other side of the wall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Living in the country can be tough, especially if you live far away from shops, along long and narrow gravel road. We got lucky though. Our house is along asphalted road, well actually pretty much attached to it and we have two shops and fuel station with restaurant just one kilometer away from us. My workplace is only about one kilometer away too and hubby’s job day starts from our own yard. Sure, what ever direction we go, nearest towns are atleast 24 km away, but main road is basically around the corner and the calming hum of the traffic can be heard if we open the window. Inside the house is quiet though. Log house is lovely because it’s naturally soundproofed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have quite large yard, about one hectare. Most of it is thankfully woodland, with chanterelle and boletus mushrooms. Actual yard area is relatively small. There is not that much lawn, allthough hubby keeps asking to get ride-on lawnmower. I have said to him that he can get it. It will make mowing faster atleast. There is as much gardening as one feels like doing. Or doesn’t feel like doing. There was only one flowerbed really, but I have already expanded it and created new ones here and there. And of course our kitchen garden is in the making. I want to plant a pear tree and a cherry. And some black currants. That I have already started, but I will tell more about it later when I see if my plan works out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about winters then? Believe it or not, I actually like snow plowing. It is one of the few home task I like. Allthough I have to admit that last winter we got so much snow that I got a bit fed up with it. There was so much snow and it kept snowing more every day that I was wondering where on earth we are going to put it. As I said, our main yard area is actually quite small. Our driveway is pretty much half circle and there is two entries, but it’s only four car lentghs long. So when ever the road plow drives past our house, we have to clear two entrance ways. Our yard is lower than the road, so if we don’t clear the entrances, there will form a hard icy ridge which makes it difficult to drive off. Last year we had to ask our neighbour to help us with their tractor to plow the ridge off. This winter we have managed to keep it clean ourselves. Allthough there has been less snow too. We also have to plow the paths to wood storage, main storage and bins. We also have the habbit of plowing the front of post boxes, which are right next to our driveway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

House now, outside, just like inside, is in desperate need of renovation.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

To be honest, there are downsides too. There is more power cuts than in town and they can last longer. Internet connection also gives grief sometimes, allthough our wifi seems to be working very well in general. There is hardly any public transportation and coaches run only once a day to Tampere and Pori. You just can’t live here without your own car, not even if you live right next to the bus stop (nearest one is only 50 meters from our door). Healthcare is far away and so are the vets. Bank services are not very good either. There is one bank which is open one day a week between 10-13. There is no specialised shops or any larger shops. There is not much else on the town center except church and carehome for elderly people. Well, we still got pharmacy, charity shop, market place, postal service, school and library. However the village has active municipal association which organises lot of small events and lectures in the summer. There’s also lot of workshops in local adults college. We also have public sauna and swimming beach and many active entrepreneurs who partake in local events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Countryside life does not suit everybody. Me and hubby like staying at home and spending time just the two of us. There is always things to do at home, especially in old house which needs renovating and the wild animals on our yard give us joy daily. Every now and then we want to see people, do shopping, see movies, museums and participate events, but most of all we enjoy staying at home. Covid showed us that mandatory hermit life is not very hard for us, unlike to some. We had been spending lot of time at home already before that. I have to admit though that good, working internet connections might have something to do with it. On the other hand, if our home road would be five kilometers long and we would have to plow and maintain it ourselves and our nearest shop and neighbour would be 10 km away, it might be different matter all together. Excellent location of the house is probably one key to enjoying the life in the countryside. Also having the neighbours nearby gives the feeling of safety, we keep an eye on each others houses. So by coincidence we have gained the best parts of living in the country and in town. I only realised this after we had moved in. I didn’t even think about it in advance. What ever the case, I finally feel that I am at home. Feeling which I never really got in those apartment building homes of ours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
