Siin\u00e4 miss\u00e4 Black Friday houkuttelee tekem\u00e4\u00e4n huippuhalpoja ostoksia tavarasta, jota ei oikeastaan tarvitse, \u00c4l\u00e4 osta mit\u00e4\u00e4n-p\u00e4iv\u00e4 haastaa miettim\u00e4\u00e4n omaa kuluttamista, kulutuksen seurauksia, omia kulutustarpeita ja pyrkii ohjaamaan ostotottumuksia ekologisempaan ja eettisemp\u00e4\u00e4n suuntaan. Itse olen vuosia ja vuosia kest\u00e4neiden ajatusprosessien my\u00f6t\u00e4 v\u00e4hent\u00e4nyt omaa ostamistani, etenkin vaatteiden osalta. En yksinkertaisesti tarvitse sellaista m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 vaatteita. Etenk\u00e4\u00e4n vaatteita joita ei tule k\u00e4ytetty\u00e4 koska ne on ostettu vain ostamisesta syntyv\u00e4\u00e4 mielihyv\u00e4\u00e4 varten. Niinp\u00e4 olinkin eritt\u00e4in mieliss\u00e4ni kun joulukalenteripostausta varten k\u00e4vin l\u00e4pi vanhoja kuvia ja totesin ett\u00e4 vaatekaapissani on edelleen k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4 vaatteita joita olen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt jo 10 vuotta sitten. Ansaitsen olalletaputuksen ja annan sen itselleni t\u00e4n\u00e4\u00e4n, \u00c4l\u00e4 osta mit\u00e4\u00e4n-p\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Se tarkoittaa sit\u00e4 ett\u00e4 maaliskuun loppuun menness\u00e4 suomalaiset olivat k\u00e4ytt\u00e4neet jo oman osuutensa maailman uusiutuvista luonnonvaroista t\u00e4m\u00e4n vuoden osalta. Maapallo ei siis pysty uusiutumaan yht\u00e4 kovaa tahtia kuin me sit\u00e4 kulutamme ja koko loppu vuoden olemme kuluttaneet maapalloamme velaksi. Vuonna 2019 ylikulutusp\u00e4iv\u00e4 oli 29.7, vuonna 2020 se oli siirtynyt hiukan my\u00f6hemp\u00e4\u00e4n ja oli vasta 22.8 ja vuonna 2021 se oli taas 29.7. Koronan my\u00f6t\u00e4 kuluttaminen v\u00e4hentyi ja siksi vuosi 2020 oli poikkeuksellinen, mutta t\u00e4m\u00e4 vuosi on erityisen paha. Siksi erityisesti t\u00e4n\u00e4\u00e4n on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 puhua erityisesti pikamuoti-vaateteollisuuden haitallisesta kehityksest\u00e4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parin viime vuoden aikana globaalit ultrapikamuodin j\u00e4ttil\u00e4iset ovat rantautuneet my\u00f6s Suomeen. Niist\u00e4 erityisesti S*h -e i- n markkinoi agressiivisesti sosiaalisessa mediassa ja hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4 algoritmeja jotka alkavat sy\u00f6tt\u00e4\u00e4 mainoksia v\u00e4litt\u00f6m\u00e4sti jos mainitset yrityksen jossakin. Olen itsekin joutunut kyseisen firman sp\u00e4mmin kohteeksi instagramissa pelk\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4n sill\u00e4 ett\u00e4 keskustelin aiheesta er\u00e4\u00e4n postauksen alla. T\u00e4st\u00e4 syyst\u00e4 kirjoitin t\u00e4h\u00e4nkin postaukseen yrityksen nimen v\u00e4h\u00e4n erikoisesti. En tied\u00e4 onko siit\u00e4 hy\u00f6ty\u00e4, mutta yritetty on. \u00c4lk\u00e4\u00e4 siis t\u00e4g\u00e4tk\u00f6 yrityst\u00e4 tai mainitko sen nime\u00e4 jos ette halua alkaa saada sp\u00e4mmi\u00e4. Ep\u00e4kohtiin kuuluvat mm. ihmisoikeusloukkaukset, tekij\u00e4noikeusloukkaukset, kemikaalij\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4t vaatteissa ja mittavat p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00f6t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I thought I should write about something a bit different than my usual content, but which is still very important to me and to the whole globe. Today is the Black Friday (which is now a whole week long event), which is the celebration of consumerism and shopping fantasy. Today is also Buy Nothing-day<\/a>. This year I am not going to buy anything from Black Friday offers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Black Friday tempts you to do cheap bargain buys of things you don’t really need, Buy Nothing-day challenges you to think about how you consume, consequenses of consumerism, your consuming needs and is guiding people’s consuming habbits towards more ecological and ethical direction. Over the years and years of hard thinking process I have tried to buy less, especially clothing. I just simply don’t need that much clothing. Especially I don’t need clothes which I don’t really use, because I bought them just to get the endorfine high from buying new stuff. So I was more than please to find out, when I was going through my old photos recently, that I still have clothes from 10 years ago in my wardrobe and using them too. I deserve a pat on the shoulder, and I will give it to myself today, on Buy Nothing-day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I decided <\/a>that I will no longer buy fast fashion, and not really anything else either, unless I really really need it and consider where to buy it very carefully. This decision has worked well for me. Instead of H&M and other cheap online shops I have done my shopping in more sustainable shops. It’s also noticeable that Finlands Earth Overshoot Day (EOD) was already in March this year. So for the rest of the year we have been overspending our share of Earths natural renewable resources. In 2019, Finlands Overshoot day was 29.7, in 2020 it was 22.8 due to covid and in 2021 it was back to 29.7. So 2020 was exceptional, but this year is really bad! You can check your country’s EOD at this link<\/a>. Because of that its very important to talk about the bad developement of fast fashion clothing industry today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During past couple of years global ultra fast fashion giants have boarded Finland too. Especially S*e -e i- n is using very aggressive marketing on social media and uses algorithms which are pushing ads immediately if you mention the company name somewhere. I have been targeted by the company with spam on instagram because I joined in conversation about it in one post. For this reason I spelled it funny on this post. I’m not sure if that helps, but atleast I tried. So don’t tag the company or mention the name of it, unless you want to get the spam. If you want to read more about it, you can find posts about the harmful practices they use. Forexample Finnish social media influencer and recycling textile consultant Outi Pyy<\/a> has talked about it a lot on instagram, usually in Finnish. She explains why ultra fast fashion, marketed especially for young people is very harmfull and you should avoid buying it. List includes forexample disgarding human rights, breaking copyright laws, chemical substances in clothing and huge pollution at production sites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finnwatch, Finnish association which encourages responsible business methods, has made a report about ethical and ecological problems in clothing industry and lists the necessary actions to avoid environmental crisis. You might be able to find similar reports made in your country or by WWF or other similar associations. Without nature there is no people. I challenge all my readers to think about how you consume and what is the necessity of it. Are you buying for actual real need or just for emotional need? Think about what you buy, could you make that purchase in more ethical shop, for example from flea market or charity shop. Influencer Outi Pyy has also made fantastic consumerism hierarchy, which I want to add here. It is very usefull when you try to decide what is sustainable and ecological enough. When you do shopping, use this list as guideline, think about what tier your shopping is. The higher you are, the more responsible purchase it is. Tiers 8-10 are not really very responsible and those should be avoided. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responsible consumers shopping check list:
1) second hand product, from your local platform \/app\/ shop
2) product from your local shop, sustainably made in your own country
3) product from your local shop, made inside EU
4) product from your local shop, high quality, made outside EU
5) second hand product, from foreign second hand platform\/app
6) product from sustainable foreign brand from their own online shop
7) product from sustainable foreign brand, from retailers online shop
8) high quality product from NON-sustainable brand, from their own online shop
9) cheap brands product from your local shop
10) cheap brands product from foreign online shop<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I challenge you to climb up atleast one tier on this consumer hierarchy during next year!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n
