Tajusin tuossa postaustoiveita lukiessa ett\u00e4 en ole tainnut lainkaan muistaa esitell\u00e4 tekem\u00e4\u00e4ni renesanssikaulanauhaa. En ole p\u00e4\u00e4ssyt pitk\u00e4\u00e4n aikaan lamppuhelmikurssille sill\u00e4 kev\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 olin koronassa juuri silloin ja nyt syksyll\u00e4 olin triplabuukannut itseni pariin muuhunkin juttuun, joten jouduin sen perumaan. Ehdin kuitenkin aiemmilla kursseilla valmistaa tarpeeksi pieni\u00e4 punaisia helmi\u00e4 jotta saatoin koota renesanssikaulanauhan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kutsun punaisista helmist\u00e4 koottua kaulanauhaa renesanssihelmiksi koska punaiset korallista tai korallij\u00e4ljitelmist\u00e4 (yleens\u00e4 lasia) valmistetut helminauhat olivat erityisen suosittuja juuri renesanssin aikakaudella. Muodikas leidi saattoi kietaista kaulaansa vain yhden n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4n punaisen helminauhan tai kokonaisen rivin niit\u00e4 eri pituisina. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halusin valmistaa rene-kaulanauhan koska aikomuksenani on valmistaa renesanssipuku kaikkine asusteineen. Olisi tietysti ollut helppoa ostaa valmiit punaiset lasihelmet, mutta mit\u00e4 hauskaa siin\u00e4 olisi ollut. Niinp\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4tin tehd\u00e4 helmet itse, kun kerran t\u00e4ss\u00e4 l\u00e4hist\u00f6ll\u00e4 sellainen mahdollisuus oli. Kurssin vet\u00e4jist\u00e4 oli hauskaa ett\u00e4 olin valinnut tehd\u00e4 simppeleit\u00e4 pikkuruisia, yksiv\u00e4risi\u00e4 helmi\u00e4 kun yleens\u00e4 kurssilaiset halusivat tehd\u00e4 isoja, monimutkaisia ja moniv\u00e4risi\u00e4 helmi\u00e4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haastavinta lamppuhelmi\u00e4 valmistaessa on saada helmist\u00e4 kesken\u00e4\u00e4n samanlaisia. Koska jokainen helmi tehd\u00e4\u00e4n yksitellen niiden koko ja muoto vaihtelee. Aidossa korallissa v\u00e4riss\u00e4 on my\u00f6s variaatiota, mutta aidot korallihelmet eiv\u00e4t ole nykyp\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 en\u00e4\u00e4 kovin eettinen tai ekologinen valinta. Koralliriuttojen tuhoutuminen saastumisen ja korallien ker\u00e4\u00e4misen vuoksi on yksi maapallomme suurista ekokatastrofeista. Lasiset “korallij\u00e4ljitelm\u00e4t” ovat kuitenkin aivan yht\u00e4 kauniita ja autenttisia. Siten kallista korallia ennenkin j\u00e4ljiteltiin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valitsin helmi\u00e4 varten kahta tai kolmea punaista lasia, en muista en\u00e4\u00e4 ihan tarkkaan. Hauskaa on ett\u00e4 lasien v\u00e4riin tuli sulattaessakin variaatiota niin ett\u00e4 osa helmist\u00e4 on kaksiv\u00e4risi\u00e4 vaikka niiss\u00e4 on k\u00e4ytetty vain yht\u00e4 v\u00e4ri\u00e4. Ensin minua v\u00e4h\u00e4n harmitti ettei helmist\u00e4 tullut aivan tasav\u00e4risi\u00e4, mutta oikeastaan nauha on paljon kiinnostavampi n\u00e4in, ja n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 mielest\u00e4ni enemm\u00e4n k\u00e4sintehdylle kuin aivan tasav\u00e4risist\u00e4 helmist\u00e4 tehty n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi. Helmet n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t lis\u00e4ksi sangen herkullisesti aivan puolukoille tai karpaloille. <\/p>\n\n\n

I realised when reading your list of post requests that I haven’t remembered to show you my renaissance necklace. I haven’t been able to take part on the lamp bead workshop for awhile. In Spring I had covid at the same time and now in the Autumn I had triple booked myself, so I had to cancel. However on the previous workshops I managed to make enough of small red beads to make myself a full renaissance necklace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I call this red necklace renaissance necklace becaus red coral necklaces (or faux options, usually made of glass beads) were very much in fashion during renaissance period. Fashionable lady could wear just one strikingly red necklace or tie a whole row of necklaces around her neck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wanted to make this renaissance necklace because my intentionis to make full renaissance outfit with all the whisles and bells. It would have been easy just to buy red beads, but what fun would that have been. So I decided to make the beads myself, because such and option is nearby. The staff arranging the workshop found it fun that I chose to make very simple small beads. Usually people on this workshop are looking into creating all sorts of colourfull and large complicated beads instead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most challenging on this task was to make the beads all same size. Because they are all made individually the size and shape varies. Real coral does have variation on colour, just like these glass beads, however it’s not ethical nor ecological to use real coral these days. Coral reef damage due to the pollution and coral harvesting is one of the huge ecological catastrophys. Faux glass replicas are equally pretty and authentic though. That is the method how expensive coral was imitated in renaissaince times too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For these beads I chose two or three different colours of red, I don’t really remember that well anymore. Fun thing is that when I melted the glass, it got colour variation so some beads are actually bicoloured, even though I used just one glass. First I was a bit upset that they weren’t all identical in colour, but actually the necklace is much more interesting this way. And it looks more handmade than necklace with solid colour beads would have looked. I also think that the beads look like delicious lingonberries or cranberries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
