T\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa vintageaarre-sarjassa esittelen melko uuden hankinnan. Ostin kaverilta t\u00e4llaisen reilu satavuotiaan tyynysetin. Heti kun n\u00e4in tyynyt, tiesin ett\u00e4 ne kuuluvat kolmion muotoiseen jugend-tuoliin, mutta en kuolemaksenikaan muistanut miss\u00e4 olen sellaisen n\u00e4hnyt. Facebookin historiallisten pukujen ryhm\u00e4ss\u00e4 joku tiesi, ett\u00e4 sellaisia tuoleja kutsutaan munkkituoleiksi ja niit\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyy edelleen Ruotsin puolelta. Sellaista tuolia minulla ei sent\u00e4\u00e4n viel\u00e4 ole, mutta ehk\u00e4p\u00e4 joskus. Tyynyiss\u00e4 on hauskat tupsunauhat, niiden avulla tyynyt pidet\u00e4\u00e4n tuolissa paikoillaan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tyynyt ovat luonnollisesti melko kuluneet ja ny\u00f6rit olivat osin repeytyneet irti. Jouduin niit\u00e4 jonkin verran korjaamaan saumoista. Kirjailukin vaatisi v\u00e4h\u00e4n paikkailua. Yhdell\u00e4 sivulla oli p\u00f6rr\u00f6ist\u00e4 kulumaa, todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isesti kisulin tekosia. Siistin sen kohdan ompelemalla p\u00f6rr\u00f6iset karvat tikkauksin sile\u00e4mm\u00e4ksi. Suomalaisessa jugend-tyyliss\u00e4 on paljon koukeroisia pehmeit\u00e4 ep\u00e4symmetrisi\u00e4 muotoja ja kansallisromanttisia aiheita, mutta toisaalta my\u00f6h\u00e4isjugendissa my\u00f6s symmetrist\u00e4 kulmikkuutta. Euroopassa Jugend eli Art Nouveau erotetaan selke\u00e4sti Art Decosta, mutta mielest\u00e4ni t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 Suomessa Art Decon ja Klassismin muotokieli sulautui saumattomammin kansallisromantiikkaan ja Jugendiin niin ett\u00e4 niit\u00e4 on usein vaikea erottaa toisistaan, enk\u00e4 tied\u00e4 onko se edes tarpeellista. This time on Vintage treasure-series are interesting new acquisition. I recently bought this about 100 years old set of cushions from a friend. As soon as I saw them, I knew they belong to triangular jugend armchair, I just could not remember where I have seen one. In one of the historical Facebook groups someone knew that those kind of chairs are called monk chairs and they can be occasionally found second hand. I don’t have chair like that yet, but perhaps some day. Cushions have fun strings with tassels. You can tie the cushions to the chair with those. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cushions are naturally quite a lot worn out and ribbons are partially ripped off. I had to mend them a bit on the seams. Even the embroidery needs some mending in places. One area is worn off fuzzy, quite likely done by a kitty cat. I tidied up that area by topstitching. Hundred years ago fabric dyes were not very light fast, so colours are quite faded. Original colours can be seen on reverse side. They are actually quite vibrant. This is one reason why I love jugend style so much, they combined colours quite boldly. If I want to fix the embroidery at some point, I probably choose the embroidery yarns to match the faded colours instead of originals, that way they won’t stand out so much. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finnish Jugend has lot of curved, soft, a-symmetrical shapes and national romantic themes. However the late jugend also has symmetrical angular shapes. In Europe Jugend\/Art Nouveau is separated from Art Deco, however in my opinion in Finland they are more intertwined with Art Deco and Classism, but also with national romanticism. Sometimes it’s difficult to separate those, and I’m not sure it’s even necessary. Cushions motifs are more angular and symmetrical, so I would say they are more late Jugend, about 1900-1920, when the triangular shapes and trio motifs were popular, especially in testiles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cotton sateen on the backside of the cushions has faded from pale green into yellow. Blue dyes weren’t very light fast, for that reason they often fade the worst,<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Fading of the colours can be seen well on the tassels. Braided bits have kept the original colours underneath and faded ontop. Embroidery is also faded. Only the yellow has pretty much kept the original colour. <\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
