Fanfaareja! Saanko esitell\u00e4 teille kodinhoitohuoneen eli remontin ensimm\u00e4isen etapin. Talon pienin huone josta remontti rehvakkaasti aloitettiin ja jonka valmiiksi saattaminen otti kaksi (2) vuotta, olkoonkin ett\u00e4 siin\u00e4 v\u00e4liss\u00e4 oli pitk\u00e4 tuumaustauko. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alkuper\u00e4isen idean mukaan t\u00e4nne piti tulla kuumavesivaraaja ja pesukone, mutta ei tullutkaan. Tilanteet n\u00e4es muuttuu ja ty\u00f6miehet. Joten nyt t\u00e4m\u00e4 on sitten t\u00e4llainen “hopeidenkiillotushuone”, eli pyykinkuivaus\/s\u00e4ilytyshuone, varasto sekalaiselle tavaralle joka ei mahdu muualle, tilap\u00e4inen vierashuone ja taimien id\u00e4tyshuone. Huoneen lattia purettiin maahan asti, korvattiin lahoja hirsi\u00e4 ja rakennettiin uudelleen, siit\u00e4 voit lukea tarkemmin t\u00e4\u00e4lt\u00e4 ekasta remppap\u00e4ivityksest\u00e4<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huoneessa on todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isesti koko talon kalleinta tapettia. Niin kallista ett\u00e4 raaskin ostaa vain kolme rullaa, onneksi enemp\u00e4\u00e4 ei tarvittukaan. Kallista tapettia kompensoitiin edullisilla feikkipuolipaneeli-listoilla ja sekalaisilla kierr\u00e4tyskalusteilla. Tapetti on Lim & Handrycktin, malli Thomanders F\u00f6rmak. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tyyppiset listoin tehdyt koriste”paneloinnit” ovat suosittuja Amerikassa, Suomessa ei niink\u00e4\u00e4n. Min\u00e4 tykk\u00e4\u00e4n n\u00e4ist\u00e4 kovasti, antavat yksinkertaiselle puolipaneelille kivan huolitellun ilmeen. Itse\u00e4ni hiukan hykerrytt\u00e4\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 kalliin ja halppiksen yhdistelm\u00e4. Yleisesti ottaen pyrimme remontoimaan mahdollisimman edullisesti, kierr\u00e4tettyj\u00e4kin materiaaleja k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en, silloin kun se on mahdollista. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u00e4\u00e4n p\u00e4in katsova ikkuna on 70-luvulla laitettu, surkean pieni ja matala ja tekee huoneesta pime\u00e4n, paitsi aikaisin aamulla kun aurinko paistaa sis\u00e4\u00e4n. Toivottavasti saadaan jossain vaiheessa mahdollisuus vaihtaa ikkuna takaisin korkeampaan pikkuruutuiseen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos ihan totta puhutaan niin eih\u00e4n t\u00e4m\u00e4 nyt viel\u00e4 ihan loppuun viimeistelty ole: lattia, ovi ja muuri ovat maalaamatta ja uunin edusta viimeistelem\u00e4tt\u00e4. Ne tehd\u00e4\u00e4n joskus my\u00f6hemmin. Uunikin vaatii jossain vaiheessa korjausta tulipes\u00e4ss\u00e4 hieman liikahtaneiden tiilten kohdalta. Muilta osin hommat on vihdoin saatettu p\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6kseen. Armottoman kiroilun ja veuhkaamisen saattelemana tosin. Seuraavaksi pit\u00e4isi keskitty\u00e4 tulevan makuuhuoneen remonttiin. <\/p>\n\n\n

Fanfares! May I present to you our utility room aka the first “save point” on our house renovation. The smallest room in the house, which we started renovating rather swaggerly, but which took two (2) years to finish, albeit there was long thinking break too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally the idea was to move the immersion heater and washing machine in here, but that didn’t happen. Because situations change and workers too. So now this is kind of “silver polishing room”, basically it’s storage room for laundry and miscellaneous stuff which doesn’t have space elsewhere, temporary guestroom and sapling room for my kitchen garden. Floor of this room was completely opened up all the way to the ground, then some rotted logs were replaced and new floor made. You can read more about that on this first renovation update<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We got probably the most expensive wallpaper in the whole house. It was so expensive that I could only buy three rolls, thankfully that was plenty to do this room. Expensive wallpaper is combined with cheap-arse faux paneling, made with battens and finally room is decorated with miscellaneous secondhand furniture. Wallpaper is by Lim & Handtryckt, model is Thomanders F\u00f6rmak. This kind of simple wainscotting made with battons is popular in America, but not so much here in Finland, but I like it. It gives nice detailed look to the simple wall. The combination of expensive and cheap kind of makes me chuckle. In general we try to renovate as cheap as possible, also using second hand materials, when ever we can. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

East-facing window is installed in 70’s, it’s horribly small and low and makes the room dark, except in early morning when sun is shining directly in. Hopefully at some point we get a chance to replace it with larger, more authentic window with small panes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To say the truth, room is not completely finished yet: floor, door and brick wall need painting and fire place front needs finishing. Those will be done at later date. Fireplace itself needs little bit of fixing at some point. But otherwise things are now done. With horrid cursing and commotion. Next thing to do is to concentrate on renovating our future bedroom. <\/p>\n\n\n

Opening the walls we found covered window, which is facing current lobby. We removed insulation which was damaged by mice, added rodent preventive netting and new insulation and covered it up. It’s possible to open it later if we ever change our minds. <\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

Wallpaper finds: in the middle is shimmering grayish beige decoration border, above that older pale green wallpaper, below that slightly newer rose and white coloured wallpaper.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Ikkunan kohdalta l\u00f6ytyi vuoden 1981 paikallislehti joka on oletettavasti tilattu huoneessa asuneen alivuokralaisen nimell\u00e4. Ikkunan on siis luultavasti pistetty tukkoon joskus -80-luvun alussa. \/
From the window area we found local newspaper from 1981, which was subscribed by person we assume was the subrenter in this room. So window has probably been covered sometime in the early 80’s.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

To minimize the plywood seams and uneven surfaces I first covered the walls with makulatura. It is good traditional base wallpaper. At the same time it was good practice for me, because this is the first room ever I have wallpapered myself. I was very nervous about ruining the expensive wallpaper.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
