Siksi shoppailukierrokselle voi aivan hyvin l\u00e4hte\u00e4 v\u00e4h\u00e4n pidemm\u00e4llekin jotta p\u00e4\u00e4see edes v\u00e4h\u00e4n v\u00e4ljemmille vesille (en tunnetusti pid\u00e4 yht\u00e4\u00e4n v\u00e4kijoukoista, alkaa ahdistaa)<\/strong><\/span>. Crawleyss\u00e4 on j\u00e4ttikokoinen ostoskeskus, County Mall<\/a>, josta l\u00f6ytyy liikkeit\u00e4 jokaiseen makuun. Vaateliikkeist\u00e4 mm. Lontoossa shoppailukohteisiini kuuluivat l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 vintage-putiikit joita n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi olevan kahtaa laatua: niit\u00e4 joissa hinnat ovat kohtuulliset mutta tavara on etup\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4 70-lukua, kasariretkuja ja norjalaisia villapaitoja ja niit\u00e4 joissa huippulaadukas valikoima ulottuu aina viktoriaaniselta ajalta 70-lukuun mutta joissa hinnat ovatkin sitten ihan toisissa sf\u00e4\u00e4reiss\u00e4. Rokit<\/a> kuuluu n\u00e4ist\u00e4 l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 siihen ensinmainittuun, tosin ainakin Brick Lanella olevista kahdesta liikkeest\u00e4 toinen oli sent\u00e4\u00e4n hiukan kallellaan j\u00e4lkimm\u00e4iseen kategoriaan.<\/p>\n

Erityismaininnan ansaitsee The Vintage Emporium & Tee rooms<\/a> Bacon Streetill\u00e4. Alakerran vintageputiikki on pullollaan jopa l\u00e4hes historiallisia pikkuasusteita ja vaatteita eritt\u00e4in korkeaan hintaan. Muumeja rakastava, vintage-tyyliin puettu hurmaava myyj\u00e4 tosin oli jo yksist\u00e4\u00e4n tutustumisen arvoinen. Ik\u00e4v\u00e4 kyll\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 ansaikosmaisen kaunis neiti ei halunnut kuvaansa julkaistavan blogissa joten se j\u00e4\u00e4 nyt teilt\u00e4 n\u00e4kem\u00e4tt\u00e4. Yl\u00e4kerrassa sen sijaan voi nauttia varsin kohtuulliseen hintaan pieni\u00e4 herkkuja ja teehuoneen vieh\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4 myyj\u00e4 mielell\u00e4\u00e4n keskustelee kanssasi vaikka mist\u00e4. Meid\u00e4n tapauksessamme tietysti Suomesta. Asiakaspalvelu siis ensiluokkaista ja ilmapiiri varsin tunnelmallinen. Lontoossa vintageputiikkeja etsiv\u00e4n kannattaa muutenkin suunnata Brick Lanelle, siell\u00e4 niit\u00e4 on melkein vierivieress\u00e4 useita, tosin mit\u00e4\u00e4n superhalpoja l\u00f6yt\u00f6j\u00e4 t\u00e4\u00e4lt\u00e4 on turha etsi\u00e4. Ollakseen niinkin pieni kyl\u00e4 kuin Lindfield, hassua kyll\u00e4, sielt\u00e4kin l\u00f6ytyy vintage-kauppa, Toll House<\/a>. Putiikki sijaitsee eritt\u00e4in vanhassa mutta sit\u00e4kin persoonallisemmassa rakennuksessa jonka jokainen huone oli hy\u00f6dynnetty putiikin k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n varsin idearikkaasti. Huonojalkaiselle t\u00e4m\u00e4 kauppa ei kyll\u00e4 sovi sill\u00e4 suuri osa liikkeest\u00e4 on jyrkkien ja kapeiden rappusten yl\u00e4p\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4. T\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4kin tyylikk\u00e4\u00e4sti esille aseteltu valikoima oli selke\u00e4sti huippuluokkaa ja hinnat sen mukaiset. Er\u00e4s k\u00e4\u00e4rmeennahkalaukku j\u00e4i hieman kaivelemaan, mutta hinta oli kyll\u00e4 sen verran suolainen ettei pystynyt venym\u00e4\u00e4n.\u00a0 T\u00e4m\u00e4nkin putiikin yhteydest\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyy kahvila jossa palvelu tosin oli v\u00e4h\u00e4n niin ja n\u00e4in. Tampio-turisteina emme tienneet ett\u00e4 americano tarkoittaa ihan tavallista kahvia ja ep\u00e4selv\u00e4sti mumisevan myyj\u00e4n jankutus americanosta alkoi k\u00e4yd\u00e4 hermoille sen verran ett\u00e4 melkein k\u00e4velin ulos odottamatta kahvia p\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4n tulevaksi.<\/p>\n

Niinkuin kerroin aiemmin, viimeisen\u00e4 varsinaisena matkap\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 l\u00e4hdimme k\u00e4ym\u00e4\u00e4n viel\u00e4 Brightonissa joka ei alunperin kuulunut matkasuunnitelmaamme. Kenk\u00e4jahdin j\u00e4lkeen meill\u00e4 oli aikaa kierrell\u00e4 ymp\u00e4riins\u00e4 joten hakeuduimme alueelle jota kutsutaan nimell\u00e4 Lanes. Pienet kujat ovat t\u00e4ynn\u00e4 monenlaisia pieni\u00e4 ja v\u00e4h\u00e4n isompia putiikkeja. Itse tietysti ensimm\u00e4isen\u00e4 t\u00f6rm\u00e4sin kangaskauppaan joiden is\u00e4nt\u00e4 v\u00e4itti kuolleen sukupuuttoon jo vuosia sitten (eip\u00e4s ole kuolleet!)<\/strong><\/span>. Ensimm\u00e4isest\u00e4 kangaskaupasta ostin hieman hattutylli\u00e4 ja j\u00e4in harmittelemaan kun en tajunnut ostaa pieni\u00e4 paperikukkanippuja jotka huomasin liikkeen t\u00e4p\u00f6t\u00e4ydess\u00e4 ikkunassa poistuessamme kaupasta. Vain muutaman askelen p\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4 oli toinen kangaskauppa, Ditto Fabrics<\/a>, jonka ikkuna oli hienostuneen tyylik\u00e4s. Edellisen t\u00e4p\u00f6t\u00e4yteen ahdetun tilan j\u00e4lkeen hillitysti aseteltu kangaspakkavalikoima sai minut haltioihini ja ostin useamman metrin kahta kukallista puuvillaa. Sanoin myyj\u00e4lle etten osannut p\u00e4\u00e4tt\u00e4\u00e4 kumpaa joten otan molempia. Myyj\u00e4 kysyi mit\u00e4 ajattelin siit\u00e4 tehd\u00e4 ja sanoin etten tied\u00e4 viel\u00e4. Ja jostain kumman syyst\u00e4 keskustelu ajautui taas Suomeen<\/strong><\/span>, toinen myyjist\u00e4 kun oli k\u00e4ynyt kiert\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 Suomea kymmenisen vuotta sitten.<\/p>\n

Erityismaininta Brightonissa menee t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa vintage- & steampunk-henkiselle pienelle liikkeelle<\/strong><\/span>, Pretty Eccentric<\/a>, jossa myyd\u00e4\u00e4n paikallisten k\u00e4sity\u00f6ammattilaisten upeita tuotteita. Hivelev\u00e4n kaunis valikoima hurmasti ainakin meik\u00e4l\u00e4isen kympill\u00e4. Valitettavasti olin t\u00e4ss\u00e4 kohtaa jo ehtinyt k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 l\u00e4hes koko lomabudjettini ihan muihin juttuihin ja upeat esineet j\u00e4iv\u00e4t muiden l\u00f6ydett\u00e4v\u00e4ksi. Mutta ainahan tulee uusia Englannin-matkoja. Ehk\u00e4 tuo helmikoristeinen pallolaukku ja kakkulasilinteri<\/strong><\/span> odottavat mua siell\u00e4 ensi kerralla (toivoahan aina saa…)<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Lopuksi haluan ilahduttaa teit\u00e4 hauskalla pikkutapauksella kirjakaupassa. Aikomuksenamme ei ollut ostaa matkalta kirjoja mutta sattumalta pist\u00e4ydyimme Waterstones-kirjakauppaan Haywards Heath’ssa. Siell\u00e4 oli tietyist\u00e4 kirjoista tarjous kolme kahden hinnalla. Yll\u00e4tt\u00e4en l\u00f6ysimmekin mielenkiintoista luettavaa ja kolmen kasa oli nopeasti valittuna. Kassalla yst\u00e4v\u00e4llinen myyj\u00e4neiti onnitteli hyvist\u00e4 valinnoista ja kysyi olinko lukenut muita Alexia Tarabotti-kirjoja. Vastasin kielt\u00e4v\u00e4sti. Myyj\u00e4 vallan innostui ja kysyi saisiko h\u00e4n vaihtaa valitsemani Tarabotti-kirjan sarjan ensimm\u00e4iseen sill\u00e4 ne t\u00e4ytyy ehdottomasti lukea j\u00e4rjestyksess\u00e4. Huvittuneena annoin h\u00e4nelle luvan. Myyj\u00e4 kertoi itse rakastavansa t\u00e4t\u00e4 kirjasarjaa eik\u00e4 malta odottaa ett\u00e4 seuraava osa ilmestyy. Erityiskiitokset siis loistavasta palvelusta sille nuorelle naismyyj\u00e4lle Haywards Heathing Waterstone’sissa.<\/strong><\/span> Kiinnostuneille tiedoksi: Gail Carrigerin luoma hahmo Alexia Tarabotti seikkailee vampyyrien ja ihmissusien maailmassa kuningatar Victorian aikaan. Kirjasarjan ensimm\u00e4isess\u00e4 osassa Soulless tutustutaan sieluttomaan ihmiseen, Alexiaan kun h\u00e4n vahingossa tappaa vampyyrin hiusneulallaan.<\/p>\n

IN ENGLISH<\/strong><\/span>
\nAfter all those stupid food and christmas light posts finally the post that everyone has been anxiously waiting for: shopping post! Yay! But you can forget about Primark and Topshop, I didn’t even peek in. Only thing I am a bit sad I didn’t do was to visit All Saints, since I walked past atleast two of their shops.<\/p>\n

During the Xmas season every shop is packed with people, especially in London so have a little effort and try travelling a bit further away for shopping. Crawley has a large shopping center, County Mall<\/a>, filled with all sorts of shops to go to. Miss Selfridge, Boots, Barrats and Claire’s to mention few. You can easily spend several hours just browsing, especially if you remember to refill every now and then in various refillstations (aka cafes)<\/strong><\/span>. Crawley wouldn’t be a proper english town without Dorothy Perkins<\/a> and TK Maxx<\/a>, which you can find outside Mall. So, it is very easy to get rid of your money in this town. (I have to admit that I might have investicated TK Maxx’s clothing racks a bit and had to leave beautiful vintage-style evening gown behind.)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In London my main target was vintage shops, which they seem to have two of a kind: those with more reasonable pricing but selection only on 70’s & 80’s stuff and norwegian knits or those with high quality selection from victorian era to 70’s but sky high prices. Rokit<\/a> was the first mentioned variety, even though one of the Brick Lane shops was leaning a bit more towards the latter.<\/p>\n

Special award goes to Vintage Emporium and Tea rooms<\/a> in Bacon Street. Boutique downstairs had lovely historical items for sale and very pretty dresses. And vintage-dressed and very charming young lady with platinum blond hair behind the counter was worth meeting alone. She told us she loves Moomin and was so excited to hear that we are visiting from Finland. Unfortunately she didn’t want her photo being published in blog so you won’t get to see it. Upstairs you can sit down for a moment and enjoy some refreshments for quite reasonable price and have a nice chat with another lovely lady who’s attending the cafe. Customer service was excellent and athmosphere was very pleasant. There is practically a cluster of vintage shops in Brick Lane, but any supercheap finds you won’t make here. Only shop in London that sells new items and that I might have wanted to pop in (in addition to All Saints)<\/strong><\/span> might have been Irregular Choise in Carnaby St, but by the time we got there I was a bit tired and was happy only drool on the windows.<\/p>\n

In West Sussex there is a small town of Lindfield, of which I will tell you more later if you’re nice. To be that small as Lindfield is, it was\u00a0 a bit surprising to find a vintage shop there. It’s called Toll House<\/a> and is located in very rustic old building. All of the tiny rooms in that house have been decorated nicely and shop goes even upstairs. Staircase is very narrow and steep so this is not a place for people with bad legs. Everything is displayed very nicely and range is top quality and accordingly high priced. I was left to dream about one particular snake skin handbag, but it was a bit pricey for me. There was also cafe in this charming shop, but service leaves something to hope for. As stupid tourists we didn’t realize that americano means ordinary coffee and mumbling waitress repeating americano over and over again started to annoy me so much that I almost walked out of the door without my coffee.<\/p>\n

Like I told earlier, on our second to last day we made a trip to Brighton, which wasn’t originally on our schedule. After the shoe hunt we had time to wander around and we headed to the area called Lanes. Small lanes are filled with interesting little shops and boutiques. Of course I ended up finding a small fabric shop first, although boyfriend claimed those died out long time ago (no they didn’t!)<\/strong><\/span>. I got some tulle and after we came out there was only couple steps to another fabric shop, Ditto Fabrics<\/a>. It had stylish window and after the first cramped one the spacey little shop with good selection seemed very tempting. I couldn’t decide so I got two different fabrics. Nice lady behind the counter asked what I was making of them. I said I dont know yet. And surprise surprise, we started talking about Finland,<\/strong><\/span> again. Lady had been travelling around Finland about ten years ago.<\/p>\n

Special award in Brighton goes to little vintage- & steampunk styled shop<\/strong><\/span> Pretty Eccentric<\/a>. They sell items from local producers and craftsmen. I was astonished with all the pretty things. Unfortunately at this point I had already used all my travelling budjet so I had to leave lovely things behind. But there will be other trips to England. Who knows, perhaps that beaded purse and goggle tophat<\/strong><\/span> will be waiting for me then (one can always dream, don’t you think)<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

And finally I like to share with you a funny incident in a bookshop. We weren’t planning on buying any\u00a0 books on this trip but we happened to go to Waterstone’s in Haywards Heath and suddenly started finding good books to read. They also had a three for price of two-deal going on. It didn’t take long to choose our pile of three. At the till lovely young lady congratulated me on my good selection and wanted to know if I had read any other Alexia Tarabotti-books. I denied. She got absolutely hyped about it and asked if she could replace my Tarabotti-book with the first episode of the series, because they need to be read in order. I said yes with a little grin on my face. She told me that she absolutely loves those books and can’t wait the next one to come out. So special thanks to that sweet lady in Haywards Heath Waterstone’s for brilliant service!<\/strong><\/span> For those who are interested: Alexia Tarabotti, character created by Gail Carriger, adventures in the world of werewolfs and vampires, at the time of Queen Victoria.
