L\u00f6ysin vihdoin paikalliselta kirppikselt\u00e4 t\u00e4llaisen hienon kalalankapohjaan villalangalla kudotun sein\u00e4vaatteen, jonka ajattelin uhrata hy\u00f6tyk\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n. Mietin kyll\u00e4 tosi pitk\u00e4\u00e4n ett\u00e4 rohkenenko silpoa t\u00e4m\u00e4n upean k\u00e4sity\u00f6n t\u00e4llaiseen tarkoitukseen. Sitten ajattelin ett\u00e4 niin upeita kuin t\u00e4llaiset sein\u00e4vaatteet ovatkin, ne ovat loppujen lopuksi melko hy\u00f6dytt\u00f6mi\u00e4 esineit\u00e4 ja kirppikset ovat niit\u00e4 pullollaan. Lis\u00e4ksi \u00e4itini on lahjoittanut meille upean ryijyn jonka lis\u00e4ksi meille j\u00e4\u00e4 melko v\u00e4h\u00e4n sein\u00e4tilaa suurille sein\u00e4vaatteille. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niinp\u00e4 sitten arvasin ryhty\u00e4 hommiin ja pist\u00e4\u00e4 sein\u00e4vaatteen lihoiksi. Tein sanomalehdest\u00e4 kaavan jonka avulla sain muotoiltua oikean kokoisen aukon p\u00f6nt\u00f6n jalkaa varten ja toiseen reunaan oviaukon kulman. Ompelin kolme tihe\u00e4\u00e4 tikki\u00e4 vierekk\u00e4in leikkauskohtaan, leikkasin palat pois ja kanttasin reunan ohuesta villakankaasta leikkaamallani vinokantilla. Matto istuu t\u00e4ydellisesti pikkuruisen vessamme lattialle. Kovemmilla pakkasilla sit\u00e4 ei viel\u00e4 ole p\u00e4\u00e4sty testaamaan, mutta ainakin se on ihanan pehme\u00e4. Jokohan sit\u00e4 t\u00e4st\u00e4 pikkuhiljaa p\u00e4\u00e4sisi takaisin kiinni ompeluhommiinkin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Spring winter has gone so fast! It is almost mid March already. January we spent mostly heating up the house with fires and shoveling snow. Actually shoveling\/ploughing snow is one of those home chores that I like to do, but seriously Mother Nature. Enough is enough! Our yard is so full of snow, there isn’t really enough space to put it. Our roof is funny shape, which means the snow doesn’t really come down. In the end there was so much of snow up there, that when it finally came down, it also ripped one of the water drains down too. The wood it was screwed to was so soft, it didn’t hold. In February I was one weed working in Vantaa and when I came back home, I brought covid with me as a suvernir. Thankfully my symptoms weren’t too bad, just sore throught and cough. Hubby got it week after me, which happened to be our winter holiday week. Now we are both healthy again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the cold winter nights I have been pondering about our toilet floor. Previous owner had it tiled, without floor heating. In this kind of house with ventilated base it is just plain stupid. Toilet is cold as it is. One wall is half against the outside wall and I assume the insulation has sunk in it. The windprotection seems also be missing, atleast based on how much it blows through the wall boards in windy weather. But that floor is just horrible. It is not warm even in hot summer weather, not to mention minus 20 degrees Celcius. Even wool socks and fur slippers don’t seem to be enough in there. Cold floor just makes everything cold in there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was planning on making fancy semi-tredy pompom rug, which would feel both soft and warm to feet. However in November I realized it takes absolutely forever to make each pompom and you need gazillion of them. So since then I have tried to figure out how to do a warm rug faster. That could do the job untill I manage to make enough pompoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally I was able to find wallrug from local flea market. It is made of cotton base and woven with wool. I did think very long time if I should chop it for this kind of use. However as lovely as these kind of wallrugs are, they aren’t really practical on the wall. And fleamarkets are full of this kinf of items. They gather dust and take lot of wall space. Also my mum has given us quite lovely, larger rug, which will take even more space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I had the courage to chop the rug. I used newspaper page to trace the shape of the toilet seat base and the corner on the toilet door, which I traced to the rug. I secured the loosely woven rug with three stitch rows and cut along them. After that I trimmed the cut edge with bias tape, which I cut from thin wool. Now the carpet fits perfectly into our tiny toilet. We haven’t tested it in freezing weather yet, but atleast it is very soft. I wonder if this finally takes me back to my sewing mojo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
