<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nNinth door of the Christmas calendar reveals our dining room. Renovation has barely started and we don’t even have single finished room yet. I decided to showcase our house anyways, even if unfinished. After all, we are living here already, even though every room is still waiting for changes. It will also be documentation for ourselves how things are proceeding and slowly house is turning into our home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Story goes that old lady who lived in this house, kept the other parts of the house cold and lived in this room. Her bed was apparently where our coffee bar is now. For this same reason, there is tv antenna wire rolled next to the window. The antenna itself is in the upstairs kitchen (yes, you read correctly, it is inside the room), which is right above. At this moment dining room is the base for new kitty cats. In time, the kitchen and dining room will be combined into large kitchen-diner and the solid wardrobe in dining room will be taken apart, and larder is going to be build in that same corner. There also used to be another window on that wall, which is now covered. I am a bit dreaming about getting window back on that wall, but we will see. Original windows have been replaced in the 50’s and again in the 70’s. Some of the original windows have been completely covered at that point and that has made the downstairs rooms quite dark. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When we removed one of the closets in dining room in the spring, it revealed that there is original floor planks under the chipboard and plastic carpeting. It was quite wonderfull news. The plan is that at some point all plastic flooring will be removed and original floors will be repaired. We will use the original floor planks as much as possible. However we need to open all of the floors so we can also repair old moisture damage, install rodent netting and add proper insulation and shielding to prevent the draft. Floors are quite drafty now, even with the plastic flooring. This what the dining room looks like now. Quite handsome logs on the wall and tile fireplace is in working condition. Dining room’s center piece is this unfinished dining table project. Gray paint is removed and table top is then treated with skimmed milk. Original 50’s varnish is under the paint and dark wood stain, which is not completely removed. Table legs and chairs are perhaps painted later with something else. Pendulum clock belongs to the house. It was broken when we bought the house, but hubby fixed it.<\/em><\/strong> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/ruokahuone2.jpg?resize=768%2C1024\")
Tile fireplace works. Unfortunately the vent chains have been replaced with icky green plastic strings. Thankfully those are easy to replace with chains.
