Remonttip\u00f6lyn tuoksuiset terveiset Havum\u00e4est\u00e4. Sopiva aika lienee kertoa my\u00f6s v\u00e4h\u00e4n remppakuulumisia. Instagramia seuraavat ovatkin jo hiukan vilauksia n\u00e4hneet matkan varrella. Aloitettiin siis remontointi talon pienimm\u00e4st\u00e4 huoneesta purkuhommilla. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

T\u00e4m\u00e4n huoneen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6tarkoitus on h\u00e4m\u00e4r\u00e4n peitossa mutta tarinan mukaan siin\u00e4 olisi asunut alivuokralainen ja jossain vaiheessa my\u00f6skin perheen poika. Mik\u00e4 on totuus, sit\u00e4 emme ehk\u00e4 koskaan saa selville. Rakenteita purkaessa olemme kuitenkin tulleet siihen p\u00e4\u00e4telm\u00e4\u00e4n ett\u00e4 aivan alunperin t\u00e4m\u00e4 huone on ollut talon porstua. T\u00e4h\u00e4n viittaisi se ett\u00e4 lasikuisti sek\u00e4 eteisen ja pikkuhuoneen v\u00e4linen sein\u00e4 on rakennettu j\u00e4lkeenp\u00e4in. T\u00e4m\u00e4 selitt\u00e4isi my\u00f6skin sen miksi n\u00e4in pikkuruisessa huoneessa on p\u00f6ntt\u00f6uuni. Tietenkin koska huone ei alunperin ole ollut ihan n\u00e4in pikkuruinen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alunperin ajatuksena oli ett\u00e4 t\u00e4h\u00e4n huoneeseen siirrett\u00e4isiin kuumavesivaraaja sek\u00e4 pesukoneliit\u00e4nt\u00e4 ja huoneesta tulisi sit\u00e4 kautta yhdistetty kodinhoitohuone ja tekninen tila. Mutta kuten kaikki vanhoja taloja remppailleet tiet\u00e4v\u00e4t, mutkia tuli matkaan. Putkimies oli sit\u00e4 mielt\u00e4 ett\u00e4 avaamatta eteisen lattiaa ei viem\u00e4riputkia pysty asentamaan koska ry\u00f6mint\u00e4tila on liian matala sellaiseen hommaan. Emmek\u00e4 me olleet halukkaita avaamaan hiljattain remontoidun eteisen lattiaa t\u00e4ss\u00e4 vaiheessa. Luovuimme sitten siit\u00e4 ajatuksesta ja p\u00e4\u00e4timme ett\u00e4 voimme asentaa tulevaisuutta varten lattian sis\u00e4\u00e4n viem\u00e4r\u00f6innin joka otetaan k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n sitten kun jossain vaiheessa haluamme\/jaksamme rempata eteisen lattian. No ei sek\u00e4\u00e4n lopulta toteutunut. Kun p\u00e4\u00e4stiin lattian asennusvaiheeseen is\u00e4nt\u00e4 oli sit\u00e4 mielt\u00e4 ettei jaksa alkaa s\u00e4\u00e4t\u00e4\u00e4 viem\u00e4ri\u00e4asiaa vaan halusi nakutella lattiat kiinni helpoimman kautta. Ett\u00e4 n\u00e4in sit\u00e4 sitten suunnitelmat muuttuvat ihan lennossa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mutta mit\u00e4s me sitten oikeasti siell\u00e4 huoneessa tehtiin? Ensin tietysti purettiin vanha lattia auki ihan maahan asti. T\u00e4h\u00e4n hommaan saatiin apuvoimia sill\u00e4 turve-eristeen lapioiminen otti oman aikansa. Isommissa huoneissa joudumme jatkossa miettim\u00e4\u00e4n ett\u00e4 kannattaisiko kuitenkin vuokrata hommaan imuriauto jolla tyhjennys k\u00e4visi ihan muutamassa tunnissa. Kun lastulevytlattia, turve-eristeet ja lattian pohjalankut oli heivattu ulos piti viel\u00e4 kuoria lattian alta maata pois jotta ry\u00f6mint\u00e4tilassa mahtuisi ilma vaihtumaan paremmin. Alunperin haltiapalkit olivat l\u00e4hes kiinni maassa, vaikkakin kivianturoiden p\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4, ja siksi imeneet kosteutta ja m\u00e4d\u00e4ntyneet. Seinien alimmat hirret olivat my\u00f6s hapertuneet p\u00f6lyksi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

T\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna rakennusalan ammattilaisten saaminen on ollut erityisen vaikeaa. Kaikki kuulemma haluavat nyt remontoida kun joutuvat koronan vuoksi olemaan enemm\u00e4n kotona. Saimme kuitenkin yll\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4n nopeasti hirsifirman hommiin ja ennen juhannusta pikkuhuone tuli kengitetty\u00e4 kolmelta sein\u00e4lt\u00e4 ja uudet haltiapalkit lattian alle. Ei se lattian pohja nyt ihan niin mennyt kuin rakennusmestari sen meille suunnitteli, mutta meill\u00e4 ei ollut aikaa eik\u00e4 jaksamista ryhty\u00e4 asiasta riitelem\u00e4\u00e4n. Niinp\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4tettiin vaan sitten hiukan taas soveltaa ja yhdist\u00e4\u00e4 rakennusmestarin malli hirsifirman malliin. Jatkoin edelleen v\u00e4h\u00e4n maanpinnan kuorimista ry\u00f6mint\u00e4tilassa jonka j\u00e4lkeen levitettiin kapillaarikatkoksi ja l\u00e4mm\u00f6neristeeksi vaahtolasikerros. Jos nyt oikein muistan niin vaahtolasia meni reilu 400 litraa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is\u00e4nt\u00e4 askarteli p\u00f6nttiksen kiviperustan ymp\u00e4rille kehikon betonivalua varten. Ei tule sitten y\u00f6ll\u00e4 uniin sek\u00e4\u00e4n kun on tuettu hyvin. Itse valu oli helppo homma, mit\u00e4 nyt materiaalia piti hakea lis\u00e4\u00e4 kun arvioitiin menekki v\u00e4\u00e4rin. Seuraavaksi is\u00e4nt\u00e4 teki lattian pohjan haltiapalkkien p\u00e4\u00e4lle. Alimmaiseksi nidottiin jyrsij\u00e4verkko ja sen p\u00e4\u00e4lle laudat ja tuulensuojapaperi. Min\u00e4 jeesailin jyrsij\u00e4verkon kanssa. Eristeeksi valittiin Ecovilla-levyt helppouden vuoksi. Ne asennettiin kahteen kerrokseen ristikk\u00e4in. Ecovillasta on keskusteltu paljon viimeaikoina. Jotkut ovat sit\u00e4 mielt\u00e4 ett\u00e4 sen sis\u00e4lt\u00e4m\u00e4 palonsuojaukseen k\u00e4ytetty boori on terveydelle haitallista. Ja sellaisenaan toki onkin, mutta eristeess\u00e4 pitoisuuksien pit\u00e4isi olla turvallisia ja haihtuminen hengitysilmaan pit\u00e4isi olla v\u00e4h\u00e4ist\u00e4 tai olematonta. T\u00e4st\u00e4 lienee mielipiteit\u00e4 niin paljon kuin on ihmisi\u00e4kin. T\u00e4ss\u00e4kin asiassa liikkuu my\u00f6s paljon huhupuheita ja v\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa. Itse luotan nyt ainakin toistaiseksi siihen ett\u00e4 tuote on turvallinen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eristeiden p\u00e4\u00e4lle asennettiin viel\u00e4 toinen kerros tuulensuojapaperia ja niiden p\u00e4\u00e4lle lattialaudat. Ai ett\u00e4 mik\u00e4 riemun p\u00e4iv\u00e4 se oli kun is\u00e4nt\u00e4 sai lattian valmiiksi. Kun oli puoli vuotta katseltu huonetta ilman lattiaa ja tuuli oli puhaltanut sein\u00e4hirsien alta oli juhlavaa astua huoneeseen ensimm\u00e4ist\u00e4 kertaa ihan oikealle lattialle! Ja juoda siell\u00e4 kuppi kahvia. Huone ei ole viel\u00e4 valmis. Seuraavaksi k\u00e4yd\u00e4\u00e4n sitten seinien ja katon kimppuun. Mutta se onkin sitten jo toinen tarina ja nyt nautimme t\u00e4st\u00e4 yhdest\u00e4 valmiista etapista t\u00e4ss\u00e4 loppuel\u00e4m\u00e4n pituisessa projektissa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I bring you greetings and renovation dust from PineHill. I think this is good time to bring some renovation update. Those following my instagram might have already seen a glimpse of it along the road. We started renovating from the smallest room in the house. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original use of this room is a bit mystery, but story goes that it has been let out for someone and also the son of the family has perhaps lived in it for awhile. What is the truth, we might never know. When tearing down the surface we did come to the conclusion that this might have been originally the front lobby of the house. The fact that wall between hallway and this room, and the huge lobby has been built later in the timeline, is supporting this theory. That would also explain why there is fireplace is such a small room. Perhaps because it wasn’t originally such a small room. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our initial idea was to move the water boiler and washing machine into this room and turn it into some sort of utility room. But like everyone who has ever renovated old houses know, there was a hick up. Plumber told us that it would be impossible to take the drain pipes from this room to the main drainage without opening the floor in the hallway. We were reluctant to do so, because it had been renovated just 4 years ago and it would make using our toilet and shower room very difficult. So we gave up that idea but decided we could install the piping inside the floor for later use when we eventually decide to renovate the hallway. That didn’t happen either. When we were actually installing the floor, hubby said he can’t be bothered to fiddle with the piping and wanted to install the floor as fast and easy as possible. So another change of plan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what we actually did in the room then? Well, first we opened the old floor all the way to the ground. We got some help for this, because shoveling peat insulation took really long time. In the larger rooms we have to think if we should actually hire suction lorry to suck it all out in couple hours. When chip board flooring, peat insulation and bottom beams of the floor had been thrown out, I had to peel some dirt from the ground to make the ventilation space under the floor larger. Old floor beams were standing on stones, but pretty much touching the ground. That meant that they had been sucking moisture from the ground and rotted away. Also the bottom logs on the walls had turned into mush. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year hiring any construction and renovation professionals has been really hard. Everybody wants to renovate at home, because they are spending more time at home. Surprisingly we managed to find log house company to repair our log house. Just before midsummer they replaced supportive beams of the floor and bottom logs on three walls. They didn’t do the floor exactly as the building inspector planned, but we didn’t have time nor energy to start fighting over it. So we just decided to combine what the building inspector planned and what the log house company did and make it work. I still continued to peel some of the dirt off. After that we spread insulating layer of foam glass. If I remember correctly, we carried about 400 liters of it under the house, in just this one room. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hubby built frame for concrete support around the stone base of the fireplace. That way we don’t have to have nightmares about it collapsing later. That was quite easy job, all though we had to get more material. We estimated the amount wrong first. Next job was to create the base of the floor on top of the support beams. Bottom layer is rodent net, then boards which support the insulation, windshield paper on top of them. I helped with the rodent netting. We used two layers of insulation laid in different direction. We chose Ecowool (Ecovilla, made of paper pulp). It has raised lot of conversation recently due to boron which is used as fire resistant in the insulation. People say it’s not good for health, which is true of course when it comes to boron itself. However according to specialists it should be safe in the insulation. There probably is as many opinions as there is people, and lots of rumours and false information. I will trust the safety of the product for now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On top of the insulation we put one more layer of paper and finally the floor boards. Oh the joy when the day finally came when the floor was finished. After seeing the room without floor for 6 months and wind blowing under the walls into the house it was such fantastic feeling to be able to step into the room and walk on proper floor! And have a cup of coffee in there. Room is not ready yet. Next job is to do the walls and ceiling. But that is completely different story. Now we just enjoy this one finished stage on this huge lifelong project of ours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This photo has been taking in the house showing. I think it’s the only proper photo of what the room looked like in the beginning. Floor is covered with plastic carpeting, there is modern carboard paneling on the ceiling, which is used in every room downstairs.
