One more tip for Christmas decorations before the Eve. Originally I planned to make this decoration post much earlier, but I encountered availability problems. As it happens, thin flat aluminum wire is sold out everywhere. Absolutely everywhere. Reason is that they are all sold for facemask manufacturers. However, friendly seller recommended optional material, but I was not sure if it would make it in time. Package arrived today, so as it happens, I still managed to get these ready for Christmas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently I saw these silver twirly Christmas tree icicles, made of flat metal wire. I don’t know how Victorian this decoration actually is, even though it is advertised as such. But I thought that they still have very nice old-fashioned feeling, and these would be really nice replacement for Lametta-tinsel, which easily goes to waste afterwards. So here is how you do it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– flat metal wire, about 3-5mm wide, thickness about 1mm
– measure
– wire cutters
– flat jewelry pliers
– round nose pliers
– file
– polishing cloth
– screw clamp<\/em>
Because aluminum wire was not available, I used silver plaited copper. It is slightly more stiffer than aluminum and perhaps for that reason, it works for these possibly even better than aluminum. You can also use coloured wires. <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

1. Cut about 20 cm long wires. You can cut longer aswell, but on a small-ish tree these look best in my opinion.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

3. Kiinnit\u00e4 ruuvipuristimeen noin 3 cm matkalta. T\u00e4m\u00e4 osuus j\u00e4\u00e4 kiert\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 sill\u00e4 siit\u00e4 tulee j\u00e4\u00e4puikon koukku. Kierr\u00e4 lattapihtien avulla tasaisesti samaan suuntaan kunnes puikon kierteet ovat mieleiset. Ved\u00e4 samalla kevyesti ruuvipuristimesta poisp\u00e4in ett\u00e4 kierteet pysyv\u00e4t mahdollisimman tasaisena. Vaihtoehtoisesti voit k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 kiert\u00e4miseen porakonetta ja ruuvipuristimen tilalla apulaista jolla on lattapihdit ja tiukka ote.

3. Attach the wire into the screw clamp for about 3 cm length. This area will not be twisted, because it will form the hook for the icicle. By using the flat pliers, twist continuously to the same direction untill you got enough twist to your liking. At the same time pull gently away from the screw clamp, to make sure the twists are even. Optionally you can use power drill for twisting and you can replace screw clamp with a friend with flat pliers and sturdy grip. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. File the ends to make them smooth. You can skip this if you don’t mind sharp ends. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
