Kaupat oltiin sovittu Facebookin kirppiksen kautta ja sovimme noutavamme rammarin myyj\u00e4n kotoa. Mik\u00e4s siin\u00e4, mukava nelj\u00e4n tunnin ajelulenkki iltapuhteiksi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second title: When madam bought a gramophone<\/span><\/strong>
In our family, things tend to escalate in a very peculiar way. That happened again when we made a little trip to Paimio, to buy a gramophone. We made the deal in Facebook marketplace and agreed to pick it up from the sellers home. Don’t mind if I do, it was supposedly relaxing four hour drive there and back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well then. We managed to get almost to our destination when car started making really pecular noises and pushing black smoke from the exhaust. We hobbled to the nearest petrol station, which happened to be right there. We called the seller that our car is kaput, we are at the nearest petrol station, can you bring the gramophone here. And they did. As a friendly gesture she even asked her son to look at the car. With mutual agreement we realized the car was not going to move anywhere, so we needed another ride home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Completely different chapter is the time just little bit later when we took our new car to Noormarkku, to buy a cabinet for the gramophone. Deal went fine, but we just happened to choose the rainiest afternoon in hole of August. It was absolutely pouring. For a change we took some backroad back to home. Well, there was not much other trafic in the evening, but we could have chosen wiser. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After frantic phonecalling we made the agreement to leave the car in Paimio, leave the car key with the staff of that petrol station and call a taxi home (about 160 kilometers). Taxi was payed by my insurance company. And we had the gramophone in the boot of the taxi. They dropped us of at our local garage where we were able to get replacement car to finally drive home. Some trip huh! Final result of that trip was that we also ended up buying a new (to us)<\/span><\/strong> car. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But back to the gramophone. We got it with quite reasonable price and some records too. Later we bought whole big album full of records for it. And styluses too. We don’t need get any new for awhile. This gramophone is Crescent Phonograph Trademaker The Melody Maker. It is awfully difficult to find any information about this company. Reason for this is probably that when the gramophone fad was at it’s peak in 1910-1920’s, new manufacturers appeared like fungus. In less than ten years the market was so saturated that here came the downhill and manufacturers vanished as fast as they appeared, with bankrupts. Only big name companies like Victor and Columbia have more information available. I managed to dig out small crumb of info about Crescent. Their first add in The Talking Machine World -magazine was in October 1914. According to some source, they closed down in 1920. You can see one of their adds here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
